Diner Reviews
  • "It was so simple. Our reservation was at 9. We ordered our cut and we were eatg by 9:30. The prime rib was aaaammmmaaaazzzzing. It melts in your mouth! Our waiter was so considerate. There was a large party next to us and he asked us if we wanted to get served our cuts first or wait a while. We quickly finished up our salads and chose to get served first. Overall, a great experience and good way to celebrate a bday."

  • "If you like beef then this is a must do! One of the best I have had. The deserts are also fabulous, the tiramisu was delightful, enjoy!"

  • "Once again my trusted go to restaurant when I have out of town visitors came through, the Prime Rib is consistently good and served just like the different tastes of the guests require. The service as always impeccable, and our chef even posed for a picture with a youngster in our party who was impressed with the mobile food server cart. Thanks again."

  • "We are from houston and have lots of great restaurants, but this restaurant beat them. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, wine list was large and offered moderate priced wines, salad was delicious and unique, baked potato was loaded thanks to our waitress, sourdough loaf fresh, creamed spinach with bacon was so good, and the prime rib was thick, cooked to perfection, and so tender. I would suggest getting the size that's one down from the King Henry. The meat seemed just as large, but the king Henry was bone in."

  • "I don't eat a lot of prime rib mostly because it's such a huge portion and I'm a small eater (5oz meat tops at a time). I had the city cut, which was 2x more than I could eat. It was very lean which I appreciate (hate the fatty stuff), and perfectly done, melt in your mouth. The huge baked potato was loaded with sour cream and bacon bits, really good too. The salad I found a bit bland. The bread was good, but would be nice if it was at least partially sliced as it's very crusty. If I'm ever in San Fran again, it's the first place I'm going to!"

  • "Very old school San Francisco. Wonderful food in a beautiful place."

  • "Food was excellent. However, the service was a bit disappointed. We've been here few times before and services were excellent but not this time. We're celebrated my husband's birthday this time and asked for an ice cream cake with candle. The waiter offer to take a picture but the picture came out with my husband eyes were closed. Overall, we didn't get treat as nice as the next table from the beginning until end. The waiter make us feel like it's not my husband birthday, it just like we saw the next table have an ice cream cake then we just copy. We were actually celebrated my husband birthday. Or maybe we didn't order wine and champagne like the next table did that's why we didn't have a nice service like them."

  • "We had a great waitress, and everyone along the way to our table was perfect (valet, host, bartender). There was, unfortunately a large group of drunk guys behind us who got in the way of our evening, but nothing the restaurant could do about it. The food was AMAZING and we all ate too much, drinks were served with the shaker, and no one had room for dessert (in a good way)."

  • "After driving in traffic from Tracy, CA we are sincerely grateful House of Prime Rib saved our previously reserved table for us. Scott the waiter was wonderful, he never forgot our 20th Wedding Anniversary. Never have we had a piece of prime rib like we had at The House of Prime Rib, it melted in our mouths and the pure horseradish was perfect. Make sure you make reservations well in advance, this place is very lively on a Saturday night."

  • "We were told by a friend that House of Prime Rib was the best, we have to say, that is the Truth! The Prime Rib is delicious, you can literally cut it with a fork, so tender with flavor beyond our taste buds! I had the "King Henry VIII Cut and my wife had "The City Cut" and both were filled with mouth watering bites. The service was wonderful very attentive to your needs and you could not ask for anything more, for the atmosphere is beautiful! It was a birthday celebration, though we didn't inform the staff, yet we heard another party being sung Happy Birthday. That was nice, being that we feel The House of Prime Rib, is a very classy place. The next visit, we will make sure to leave room for dessert. What more can be said, Great Place!"

  • "I love this place so much! Every time I go it's better than the last time. This last visit was for a date night/anniversary and our waitress Sharon treated us so special it made the night very memorable!!! She had good wine suggestions and was so funny and really attentive to our needs. Next time I go I hope I get her table!"

  • "Went with my wife for our anniversary and had an amazing dinner. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and so flavorful. Each meal came with so much food as well, including a salad, mashed or baked potato, cream spinach or corn, and Yorkshire pudding."

  • "They do a few things and do them very very well. Everything was fantastic - prime rib (best I've every had), salad, creamed spinach, bread (both sourdough & corn bread and the Yorkshire pudding. My mom's salmon was good too. Kind of a nostalgic thing, but the place is fun. Too heavy and expensive for regular dining but a good value."

  • "After living in the Bay area for over 30 years, my husband and I finally dined at House of Prime Rib. This restaurant has been in business for 62 years and it is still as popular as it has been. We couldn't understand why we had such a difficult time getting a weekend reservation (one month in advance!). How good could it be - they just serve prime rib, right? Well, we were pleasantly surprised. It is as good as people say! The prime rib is top quality and has an exceptional taste, compared to other places. And we were concerned after reading some reviews on Yelp, that the service had gone downhill. This was not our experience! Frank was our waiter and gave us top professional service, friendly, and took care of all our requests!"

  • "Birthday dinner party of 6, one if our guests was going to be an hour late. They refused to seat us until all of our party were there, although we had been waiting at least two hours for seating, spent a lot on drinks while waiting, they could have seated us and enjoyed a meal and started without the latecomer, but host was brutally firm about this policy and gave us no options. We askef for smaller table and they refused. We were all very hungry and drunk on the strong cocktails, dinner finally was served 2 hours later than our reservation time, because once we passed 15 minutes after original reservation time they put us at bottom of long waiting list with all walk in guests! Very salty food, drink lots if water. Not what I expected."

  • "This is such a great traditional restaurant if you love prime rib with all the trimmings. Service is impeccable, but it's a great place for family celebrations. It has been a tradition in our family for years and years."

  • "Once again our server Cara made our dining experience a pleasure. Even now that our family is growing, with 2 kids our family was treated with respect and courteous. Dinner was delicious, my glass of wine was beautiful. The desserts we had as a treat for our friends birthday (the reason we went out) were awesome. The warm apple crisp and the raspberry sorbet OMG to die for! Again we thank you Cara and House of Prime Rib for the food and service. Keep up the great work."

  • "Great food, top notch waiter (Antonio) restaurant was really loud, a lot of people celebrating, not out of line. A fun busy place on Sunday night. Our only problem was our hostess didn't acknowledge us standing by her. Flagged down a server and she got the ball rolling. Other than that first impression We had a good meal"

  • "I was here for a birthday occasion just about 3 weeks ago, and the prime rib and service were one of my best experience. But this time for a friend's visit, the cut and service were on the average side. Anyway, it's still THE place for prime rib in San Francisco."

  • "Dined here many times before and never really came across an issue with service. I normally come here either for business or pleasure and have always had a wonderful time, but this last dining experience ended my night on a sour note. Everything was great in the beginning with our server, but it turned pretty ugly when my guest asked kindly if she can bag her seconds to go. We didn't know the policy at the time, however the server responded in a very rude and erratic manner in front of another table that was sitting next to us.... what an embarrassment he caused for us. I understandable House of Prime Rib's policy but it clearly seems some servers are not properly trained on how to kindly respond to their customers in situations like this."

  • "made excellent drinks. You must make reservations weeks in advance but it's well worth the wait. The prime rib is always full of flavor along with the salad, creamed spinach, yorshire pudding and mashed potatoes! All this for a great price I must say."

  • "At with the family at the House of Prime Rib a second time in about five years, and it was as great as the first time. The prime rib was cooked to perfection, and the service was wonderful. Cocktails from the bar were delicious. Steve attended to our every need, including the many Shirley Temples for the kids. Guests who liked well done meat (go figure) said it was perfectly prepared. It is our favorite restaurant in San Francisco."

  • "We were rushed from the moment we were seated. The wine steward was argumentative. Felt like fast food at $125.00. We are done with this place."

  • "Came here with the family to celebrate my daughter's birthday. With a 6pm reservation, we got seated immediately. The prices range from $39.85 (lowest price on the menu) for the basic City Cut to $42.85 for the King Henry VIII Cut. For the King Henry VIII Cut, I did not notice much of a size difference between that and the City Cut which was disappointing, but luckily you can ask for a second slice which is pretty thin as well. So the next time we come here, I will just get the City Cut. Overall, I would not come all the way over to San Francisco, fighting the traffic and finding parking which is already tough if you don't dine 6pm or earlier. I think for the price of prime rib, there are other places just as good and less expensive."

  • "My husband's family has been going to this restaurant for 50 years, and we were able to take our small daughters for their first "fancy" restaurant experience this last week. The staff was SO attentive, and friendly, and over the top professional. I can see why they keep coming back!"

  • "Food was very good but due to overbookings, they really want you to get out asap. The waiter was so busy that while he was stirring the salad that was ready for serving, he left and someone had to take over. He got so side tracked that he gave us a dessert menu twice. We all felt so rushed that it was not as enjoyable as what we would like."

  • "If you are a Prime Rib fan, then you must eat at this place. But be forewarned. Once you eat here, all other prime rib will pale in comparison. Dry Aged and cooked to perfection, the House of Prime Rib does one thing, and that is make the best prime rib. Served with their famous cremed spinach, as well as a potato and house salad, this meal is simply divine."

  • "The House of Prime Rib is a true culinary experience. For under $40 you will get a large cut of , outstanding prime rib (it's all they do!), salad, potato, bread, corn bread, and creamed spinach (the only part of the meal that was 'so-so'). Friendly, attentive service, and a great bar replete with a nice wine selection. It is like stepping back in times to the days of an excellent beef restaurant. Go there! You will have no regrets."

  • "House of Prime Rib continues to with the traditions. In addition, they have added some delicious side dishes that include cream corn for those of you who do not like cream spinach like myself as well as added HOT cornbread to the menu. Portions and flavor are what bring us back every time. Each room has a differnt feel wether celebrating a special occassion or just simply eating out."

  • "If you want good prime rib this is the go yo place. The sides are really good too. It can get very noisy so this is not the place for a romantic dinner. Huge portions and I was amazed my daughter ate her whole meat so she could get another one. The second free piece is smaller, thank goodness. I was waiting for her to go into a meat coma. Be sure to make reservations. Parking on the street is doable."

  • "This was our third time to this restaurant. We know that it books up fast, so we try to look for our reservation about 1-1.5 months ahead of time, and have no problems. Each time we used Open Table to book the reservation. You not only get the reminder via email from Open Table, but the House of Prime Rib also calls you to confirm. The food is outstanding. It just keeps getting better. The whole table licked their plates clean, so to speak. This is a great place. The only negative I can say is that they pack the tables in tight, so the noise level gets loud real quick."
