  • "I have Been To House of Japan in Dublin many times over the past 10 years. My experience has always been excellent. I decided to try the one at Polaris. This was the first time my Husband and Mother-in-Law has been to this restaurant. I was very disappointed. The chef was not entertaining, spent more time looking at the table behind us then paying attention to our table, did not smile much, and mumbled when he did talk. He seemed hung over and did not want to be there. I had to listen to my husband complain for about the next 2 hours after we left. I will continue to enjoy House of Japan, but the one in Dublin - Not the one in Polaris."

  • "I gave a 5 for overall but a 4 for service because the gentleman at the bar didn't seem to friendly. The hostess, waitress and chef was outstanding! The Chef had me in stitches. I brought a friend for her birthday and another friend from the UK so I was very happy that he was able to entertain us. I have been here before but I enjoyed myself the most this time."

  • "This past visit to House of Japan was much less enjoyable than most of it experiences. We went on a Friday night with a reservation and we were hastily placed at a table that had 11 people around it. That made for a very very uncomfortable evening as it was difficult to move, much less eat. My husband was stuck at the end and couldn't even pull up his chair without bashing the knees of the other gentleman on the other side of the corner. I understand that the weekend nights get busy, but it was horrible to be shoved in to a tight table just so they could get more business. The overwhelming number of people also had an effect on our service. The chef and the food were great though. Awful experience."

  • "The only downside of going here is you may have to wait a long time for a table, but it's worth it! Been here many times and never had a meal that was less than exceptional. Service is usually pretty good, although sometimes you have to flag someone down for refills on drinks. Highly recommended."

  • "We made reservations two weeks ago only to completely ignored by management when we arrived. We had to wait one hour to get our table, as did everyone else who had reservations. I spoke with the owner and she had no excuse and basically said reservations are handled just like walk-ins. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE -- spend your money with a restaurant that actually pays attention to reservations."

  • "It was my first time at a hibachi style restaurant, and my girlfriend and I had a great time here. The staff were friendly and prompt, the ambience was wonderfully exciting - every now and then you could hear and see the fires at other tables along with the accompanying gasps and laughter that ensued - and the food was some of the best I've had in a long time. My girlfriend and I had the Feast for Two in order to get to try a bit of everything. Right off the bat, they impressed with the mushroom soup, which although simple was so rich in flavor! They then continued the delicious train with shrimp, veggies, lobster, fried rice, filet, chicken, and string beans with everything tasting great and nothing cooked wrong."

  • "Check your receipts! We always get the imperial feast for two and egg yolk sauce is already included in the price for the shrimp. When we ordered we told them we wanted an extra side of egg yolk sauce (I know its an extra charge) but they also charge us extra for egg yolk sauce on the shrimp appetizer. Granted it was $1.98 extra but the fact remains they charged us extra for something that was already included in the price of our meal. We don't normally look at the receipt when we eat here, but I will be from now on. Other than that every thing was perfect"

  • "We go to House of Japan for at least one family birthday a year. The food was good, though not as tasty as the past. Maybe it was less soy sauce. The cook was new so he was not as flashy as past cooks. But, he did try to keep the kids amused. For the price, you get a decent amount of food but don't expect an overflowing plate."

  • "Made a reservation for 9 people at 7:00. Checked in at host station around 6:40 and was told to check back in when entire party had arrived. Checked back in at 7:00 when entire party arrived. However, was not seated until almost 8:00. Apparently, they are good at taking reservations, just not at keeping the reservation (which is the most important part!) Food was good. Chef was entertaining."

We felt rushed through the dinner and the chef, while talented, lacked an ability to engage anyone at the table and seemed to be 'going thru the motions'. The food was well prepared; But lacked original presentation or unique flavor. We explained that we had not been to he restaurant before and needed guidance in ordering and the menu and received a poor response with more questions than answers. We had made the reservation for a birthday and had made that clear and never received any acknowledgement of the special event. Poor business practices and execution. Will look elseware next time."

  • "I have been to House of Japan several times, and this is the first time I felt the service was not what it should have been. We were searted in the very back of the restaurant, and we were the only table back there for a while. It took a very long time before anyone came to ask us what we wanted to drink (we thought maybe they had forgotten about us). Once the rest of that section started filling up, we saw our server, and the rest of the evening was fine."

  • "Been to HoJ 3 times, food was good all 3 times, was busy all 3 times. I had reservations all 3 times. The 3rd visit on dec 26 was a little slow on getting seated but bartender was fast getting drinks for 6 of us. It seemed they were short on chefs the 3rd visit, 11 tables and I counted 5 chefs. On 3rd visit chef was in a hurry, I had same chef on visit 2 and he was great and entertaining, visit 3 was average. Go to HoJ when it's not totally packed !"

  • "Get's a little worse with every visit. The cost cutting efforts are obvious at this point from the individually wrapped wet naps that have replaced the hot towels to the declining quality of the waitstaff and cooks. It still works for a big group with kids or for someone that has never been to a good Japanese steakhouse but just barely. For the price point, the food is too average, the environment is too noisy, and the 18 year old kid cooking for you is more likely annoying than entertaining. Kind of a shame really as this was a really good place once."

  • "Worst seating experience in any restaurant ever. We had a reservation for 7 PM and arrived at 7 PM. We were told table would be ready in a couple of minutes. We were not given a table until 8:10 PM. During the wait and while eating, numerous people were arguing about the seating. One of the issues is that the online reservation system does not appear to take into account the people that are already waiting at the restaurant. You could literally make a reservation online right before you walk into the restaurant and get in front of the 50 people who are already waiting. The online system will tell you there is a table available in the next 5 minutes."
