A word from Hourglass Tavern
The Hourglass Tavern is housed in a renovated nineteenth-century brownstone on New York's famed restaurant row. Thirty years ago, each table had a working hourglass: your dinner would take only the time it took for the sand to run down, and theatergoers wouldn't miss the curtain going up.

Today, the Tavern has three intimate floors, each with its own charming personality. The hourglasses are mostly decoration, but if you've got tickets to a Broadway show, they are still used to assure that we'll get you there on time!

3 Course Pre-Theatre Prix-Fixe 4pm-8pm - 22.95. A la Carte standards & daily specials can be made a 3 course Prix-Fixe with a $10 addition.

"Bettibar" is located on the second floor, offering a gamut of affordable wines, & an array of local and imported beer. The 3rd floor is available for dinner service or for booking private events.

This restaurant was recommended to me and I'm glad I had dinner here. The food was very affordable and very, very good. Their home made citrus vinaigrette salad dressing is delicious. My salmon was perfectly cooked. Mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli were very tasty and plentiful. Service was very friendly. Wine was very good. I love this small brownstone. Cozy. Make sure you reserve a table on the first floor if you can't do steps. On Restaurant Row.

Small but amazing! Food was spectacular. Everything was so fresh and can be ordered to your liking. The staff was all very pleasant! We were a group of 4 and our reservation was at 5pm, before seeing a show. It was relatively quiet at 5pm, but by the time we left at 7pm, it was packed and loud, but not in a bad way! We really enjoyed everything about this place! On Restaurant Row, located very close to the theaters. Definitely a must-try! I will be visiting again soon!

The location was perfect for a pre-theatre dinner with friends. There were seven of us so getting a reservation at 6:00pm for that large a party can be challenging but was easy on Open Table. When we arrived we were seated immediately. The menu is fairly broad and we all ordered fairly quickly. Most of us ordered from the prix fixe menu which had lots of good choices. Unfortunately, my pork chop was very thin, overcooked and had little taste. The veggies were decent and the taramisu was average. Our group probably would choose someplace else the next time we get together.

I ordered the veal chop that came with mashed potato and spinach (chef's special). Quality of the veal was ok, not very tendor as I expected. It was grilled medium well, not medium as requested. The mash potatoes also lacked flavor even though they were described as ' double butter'. Location is great, but there are others in the area that equal in quality, cheaper in price. Small room sof there is a noisy group of people dining, you're doomed. Good service.

My new fave in the theater district! It looks like a little hole In the wall, and it mostly is, but the menu is diverse, the food is fantastic and the service was excellent! Our waitress/bartender Megan was great and knows how to make a drink! We already have reservations for more than a month out for our next trip to bway.

We met friends before a show for drinks and dinner. The reviews said it was small but I was not prepared for tiny! The dining area is open to the kitchen and there is no elbow room here at all. We did enjoy our meals. The food seemed freshly prepared and we were satisfied but underwhelmed. This place is at the very end of restaurant row and as we walked up the block I saw a number of places that I wish we had gone to. I think this is more of a casual neighborhood place to get a few apps and a drink.

We had tickets to a Broadway show and needed a place to have dinner. I did not look forward to restaurant row. I expected a pretentious, get the tourists in and out, overpriced mill. I did some poking around on the web and found Hourglass Tavern. What a gem. The food was great, reasonably priced and the service could not have been better. I felt like I was eating at a place where I had been there so often that everyone knew me. I plan on going back even if I am not going to a show

I had high expectations based on good reviews from trip advisor. We went here for a pre broadway show dinner. The location was great but the overall impression was ho-hum. I think I would have been greatly disappointed if I paid $100 for 2 adults and 1 kid anywhere else in the country. I know NY is expensive so that's why I gave the restaurant 3 stars (otherwise it would have been 2). The spinach ravioli and tavern salad were tasty. My husband said the steak was decent though a bit fatty (but in fairness it was only a $20 steak). The servers were smug/annoyed and not very friendly. We had to get their attention for drink refills and the overall service was pretty slow. I am glad we made a 6pm reservation to make it to our 8pm show.

This place is perfect for dining before going to a show near Times Square/Broadway. The food was wonderful and the service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and made good suggestions prior to ordering. Only flaw is the building is very old and the dirty windows "bugged" my OCD guest I was dining with. Please give this restaurant a try!!!

We love this restaurant. Tucked away at the end of NYC's Restaurant Row, many people pass it by. Don't be one of those. Go upstairs, have Chris as your waiter and enjoy a well prepared meal at a reasonable price. It is definitely our go-to place after a great Broadway show!

Although the restaurant had many positive reviews, our meal was very disappointing. Only a single entree could be made without garlic and the resulting steak was tough. The pasta had no flavor and the Parmesan cheese provided was not freshly grated.

We went here on a Monday night, and it was still very busy. Our appetizer- the albondigas, were fantastic, as were the salads. However, my main course was pretty mediocre; I got the salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The salmon was over-sauced and overcooked, the mashed potatoes were cold, lumpy and didn't have much flavor and the broccoli was definitely undercooked- it almost tasted raw. Luckily the salad and appetizers were pretty large portions, so I wasn't that hungry- I ended up taking most of my meal home and recooking it myself the next day. Our waitress was excellent and very nice, and the atmosphere is interesting, but if we were return again, it'll only be for appetizers and drinks.

My husband and I enjoyed our meal at this very small restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. Funky and charming. The service was prompt - almost too fast. We could have lingered longer over our wine before entrees arrived. Small complaint though as my Shrimp Catalina was excellent. My husband had the spanakopita puff pastries and enjoyed them. The prices were great for New York. Would eat here again!

Visiting NYC on business for a few days and extended the trip for the weekend. Hourglass Tavern had good reviews on Trip Advisor and Open Table so we made a reservation that afternoon for later in the evening. Very small place but we were seated within 5 minutes of our arrival. I had the grilled pork chop which was excellent with a great char grilled flavor served with a yummy sauce (can't remember what is was). My wife had pan seared salmon that was also very good. Good service and friendly wait staff. Will consider again when we are visiting NYC.

We had a 6:00 reservation and mentioned that we had a 7:00 curtain. No problem, we were told. We got our menus and ordered by 6:25, at the latest: grilled chops and the pasta special. By 6:50 we knew that we were in serious trouble. We had a couple of "your food is on its way" fly-bys from the owner and waitress. At 6:55 we got up and left a $20.00 on the table. The owner refused to take our money, was sorry for the poor service, and hoped that we would return another night. What was striking was the owner did not seen fazed by the lack of service at all: we were not offered appetizers or a comp for a future visit. Bottom line-we are not returning. My recommendation of "Hot Spot" referrers to our outside seating, nothing else.

Location is terrific as is walking distance to theatre district, Times Square and metro stops. Owner is lovely and wait staff personable. Our reservation was for 2 families (with 9 people total) before heading to an 8pm show. Tucked away on the cozy 3rd floor the service was prompt and polite. I had the pecan encrusted tilapia which was excellent. Based on the clean plates and happy smiles the rest of our group were equally satisfied. The waiter brought out a nice piece of cake for my daughter's 14th birthday. The coffee was excellent as well. We made it to our theater in plenty of time for curtain.
