A word from Hot Woks Cool Sushi - Millennium Park
"Hot Woks Cool Sushi represents the culmination of a variety of Asian flavors. Although many of us have been raised in the traditional kitchens of our cultures, the diversity of our world has enabled us to experience & blend the best of many regions.
Similar to the Asian philosophy of balance represented by the Yin Yang symbol, Hot Woks Cool Sushi seeks to maintain the traditional balance of favorite classic dishes & seeks to merge the flavors of different ethnic regions to create a cultural evolution of taste.

Diner Reviews
  • "This place has been a great disappointment, partly because the service was really good - so our expectations of the food quality were also high (otherwise we would have turned around and left).... But the food was rather awful - it was curiously bland and spicy at the same time... Bland in terms of taste and spicy/hot because it practically burned my lips and tongue...."

  • "From the outside, it does not look like much and would not necessarily be someplace I would have just wondered into. Without reading the positive reviews, I probably would not have tried it - and definitely would have missed out. We had a fantastic dinner. We ordered several Chinese dishes and several sushi rolls to all share. It was perfect. I will definitely be going back."

  • "We went here for my wife's birthday dinner because it was by Millennium Park. Our table was ready on time. While the service was slow, we were not in a hurry so it did not impact our experience very much. The food was outstanding and even our daughter, who does not like this cuisine, found something that she liked. Overall it was a nice experience without being overly pricey. If I had someplace to be, the service would be a concern, however."

  • "We like this restaurant and often order takeout. With young kids we don't go out that often. We dined in on this occasion, and they forgot to make our food! The service was poor and the waiter did not check in on us. When we flagged him down, he asked us many times which dishes we had received. He was incredulous that we had not received any (as were we). We asked for a manager who helped get us the food quickly. It tasted great!!"

  • "My spouse and father joined me for dinner at the last minute on a Sunday night. I made reservations on Open Table and the restaurant accommodated. This was the first time we dined here and would definitely come back. The food was good from sushi to thai. They ran out of the mango pudding so I can't wait to try it on our next visit."

  • "I had the chicken pad thai and the Akita roll and they were both very good. I won't go as far as to say they were life changing but they were certainly tasty. What i will say is that the Unconventional Eggroll (or Irregular Eggroll, whatever) was definitely worth trying. On paper it sounds horrid but I had read other reviews that were very positive and I am fan of peanut sauce so I gave it a whirl. Fantastic! Additionally the location is right across the street from Millenium Park and the prices were some of the best in Chicago. Add it all up and you have a winner!"

  • "Food was decent. The fact that the bar couldn't make a daiquiri was a little surprising. Sushi was good. No wifi in the building or good reception either."

  • "Lots of choices--something for everyone, but nothing is really outstanding. Good place to go before theater or concert because it's reasonably priced."

  • "Good quality for the price, great location. Going there often before theater/concert. Usually eating sushi, but see others enjoy hot-wok dishes. They should remove from the menu drinks that they don't cary any longer."

  • "The only thing lacking is perhaps more ambiance. Food was good and very kid friendly."

  • "Good for a quick bite before the theater. Didn't have sushi or tempura which looked like their main event. The food we ordered was good, tasty, but not stellar.A little heavy on the sauce and a bit too sweet. Nice atmosphere and the wait-staff was very friendly ."

  • "A perfect place if you want to get a bite before theater or concert. Good food with reasonable prices. Especially convenient for parties in which some prefer cooked, other raw food. My favorite sushi roll is Obama Nami. By, the way, even their miso soup is much better than in other places."

  • "There aren't many preconcert restaurant choices: good food, quick service, nice ambiance, near Orchestra Hall for a quick walk in cold, windy weather. We found this gem through the Open Table suggestion list after our favorite place, The Gage, was already booked. Fantastically quick service brought us excellent sushi at a very reasonable price. And the same can be said for the sake and wine. There are plenty of other interesting Asian items on the menu. Sushi is only a small portion of the offerings. The room is cozier than we expected. Go now before this find becomes so crowded they can't hold your reservation when traffic causes you to be 45 minutes late, as happened with us."

  • "Stuck with the signature makimono rolls. Started out with two and they were good enough that we ordered a third. We ordered one with shrimp tempura (south of the border?), the other was yellow tail, and the third was called rainbow. We split a warm house saki (least expensive one) since it was a drink special that night of 50% off. The portions were decent. The ingredients were fresh. Service was typical, nothing awesome or poor. The timing was good, we didn't have to wait too long for our food to arrive which was great because we needed to be at orchestra hall in an hour. Overall, if you are looking for Japanese / Thai food near orchestra hall, art institute, or millennium park, you won't go wrong going here."

  • "Great variety. Friendly, courteous, quick service. Bustling feel, not for romantic dinner out, but great for pre-concert fast meal."

  • "We actually went here to eat before seeing "Wicked". It was 5pm on Friday night and it was very quiet. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. We ordered drinks, appetizers, and maki and were still out in less than an hour. The prices are very reasonable. It was a more casual restaurant but the interior is well decorated and inviting. We won't hesitate to come again."

  • "Was treated very rudely from the beginning to end. I am in the customer service industry and it was the worst experience ever"

  • "Oriental food in a good setting at prices that were acceptable. We ate here before going to a concert in Millennium Park and enjoyed the food and service. Nice selection of Sake too."
