The food was excellent. My husband and I shared the special for two which consisted of two filets, lobster and shrimp and potatoes. I could not finish my filet, but my husband ate all of his of course. The restaurant had mixed reviews, so we visited it to scope out prior to our dinner. We asked for a table outside to watch the famous sunset in KW. Our wish was granted. We also showed up early and were graciously seated to enhance the experience. Our server was very attentive and helpful throughout the evening. Food was great, and unique. A tiny hibachi at the table to cook fish satay; paella was great; ceviche was superb; and scallops were also very good. HTR deserves a great review, both for quality and views. This rating includes both visits, because we ate here on two nights during our week-long vacation in Key West. During both dinners, we ate outside which made the evening seem even more special due to the spectacular view. My husband and I both loved our food on both nights. This included the appetizer that we shared on the first night and desserts that we ordered on the second night. The service was also first-rate and the maitre d', Joseph, added to the wonderful evening by checking on us several times throughout the dinner.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMBEST FOOD/SERVICE/VALUE IN KEY WESTKey West is known for overpriced tourist traps with mediocre food and lots of attitude. Hot Tin Roof is certainly NOT one of them! The food is among the best and most creative in town. The entire staff is very friendly and efficient. The prices are in line. The menu always has a great selection of large and small plates and the desserts are made in-house. Ask to be seated on the deck overlooking the harbor; there's even a quieter area outside exclusively for couples. The dining room itself is elegant and has a great view looking out toward Sunset Key. We always take our friends to Hot Tin Roof when they are visiting. For a light meal, order a salad and the fresh fish with a small hibachi to cook at the table yourself. The bar is attractive and inviting. Our waitress, Ellie, was personable, efficient and friendly. The food was delicious, served hot in skillets. There is a nice wine selection both by the glass and bottle.
