Hot Chocolate was delicious! The decor is a mix of eclectic and modern, and the service is wonderful. I'd definitely recommend getting dessert, and their beer list is pretty great as well. One downside is they don't do take-away in order to preserve standards. The food can also be a bit pricey, but I'd definitely go back.

Second time dining here, first time for dinner. I have to rank it among the best dinners I have had in Chicago. My guest had the scallops that were amazing. I had the hamburger and concluded that all other hamburgers should be judged against it. Really, it was that good. And it goes without saying that the desserts are out of this world. Other than being a bit loud at times, I would recommend this place to anyone for impeccable food and outstanding service.

The food was great as usual, but the service was slow. We waited about 15 minutes for a server to approach the table, and only because I hesitantly called one over. The food came out rather slow, but not terribly so. It took another 20 minutes for someone to approach with the dessert menu, and even though I was told my pumpkin layer cake would be ready in "literally 1 minute," it took another 20 minutes. If it came out freshly baked, I would understand, but it was obviously pre-sliced and all they had to do was garnish it. Don't get me wrong, it tasted amazing, but don't promise quick service if you can't deliver on it. The restaurant was badly understaffed for a Friday night at 7:30. I will go again, but it was disappointing.

Okay, so as you can imagine the hot chocolate was OUT OF THIS WORLD (highly recommend the Mexican)! The food was very good and what impressed me most of all was the quantity of food. It was really nice to come to a restaurant that didn't fill a plate with enough food for 3 days, which means there is always room for dessert. We ordered the Doughnuts thinking there would be 3 Dunkin-like doughnuts and would be just enough for the 3 of us but what came out was truly a taste of heaven! There were 5 little doughnuts that tasted unlike any doughnut I have ever had! They were incredible!

My husband and I brought my parents here for dinner and dessert. We had a reservation but weren't seated for over 20 minutes!!! Especially not fun when you are seven months pregnant.! I found this extremely disappointing. The food was great, service was great - overall ambiance a bit loud that made is difficult for conversation at times.

Great fun atmosphere! Restaurant was buzzing for a Saturday nite. Our 8pm reservation was timely even though there were many people waiting to be seated. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable. Our dinner of pork chops (for him) and scallops (for me) was delicious. The only stressful part of dinner was trying to figure out what to get for dessert! We spent a lot of time staring at what everyone else got, and everything looked amazing! We finally decided to split a chocolate mint milkshake, which they split for us in 2 different tall skinny glasses. FANTASTIC!!! Cant wait to go back to try something else.

I have been here several times and this night seemed a little off the mark. This fall's menu didn't live up to last year's menu. We had the butternut squash soup (good), mac n cheese (best ever), the cheddar biscuits (ok), the flap steak (good), the scallop option (meh), the doughnuts (good), the bread pudding (total disappointment compared to the last bread pudding i had there), and a hot chocolate. It wasn't a bad meal, it just wasn't as special as my previous trips there. Service was fine. Cocktails were just ok. Will return next year, when they roll out a more inspired menu.

The dinner experience was good with the food and waiter. The hostess on the other hand needs a job that she likes, she was not welcoming and didn't even try to put on a happy face. She acted like she was doing us a favor. Sorry Im a business owner and the a big to me! And it wasn't just with us I was paying attention.

A few of my friends had great things to say about this place, so I went in there with high expectations. I really respect and appreciate restaurants that cook in accordance with the seasons, and the menu looked delectable. I ordered the Poussin, which arrived at a lukewarm temperature. The chicken was completely lacking in meat and was entirely bone. I ordered dessert feeling hungry. I ordered the "apples" dish, which was good, but did not rock my world. My friend ordered the "black and tan", which was delicious. Overall, a very disappointing experience but I will likely try Mindy's again, most likely for brunch.

I've been to the restaurant several times and the fact that they rotate their menu every season keeps me looking forward to come back. It's kind of too bad because I had a pork belly dish there for brunch one time and now I don't think I'll ever find it on the menu again! Moot point, though, because everything else on the menu looks so good. And, of course, the hot chocolate always hits the spot!

This place smells incredible from the moment you walk in.. very inviting and like an antique shop vibe.. I loved it. The hot chocolate was outstanding (I had the chai one) and the Shrimp Louie salad was so tasty and different. The tomato soup was a bit boring- good but nothing great. My coworker had the BLET which he said was fantastic- it was HUGE like a burger almost! I wanted to try it- next time. I will be back for sure!!

I hadn't been to Hot Chocolate for many years and as my children were smaller had not thought of this restaurant. I've been 2 times in the last two weeks. Both time had a burger and the other time had a crabcake sandwich and lucked out to have 'fried chicken friday'. The food and service were both outstanding. I didn't try the other menu items because I couldn't bear NOT to get that burger. Best in the city. You wouldn't think, but it is. I didn't actually want to order the signature 'donuts' either, but my daughter did. Also the best in the city...and I go to all the donut 'hotspots'. Highly recommended.

I have been to Mindy's Hot Chocolate a few times and always take any guests visiting Chicago to enjoy some delicious food and hot chocolate. We had the burger special and it was a lot of food for $20, well worth it. Also, the mac & cheese is excellent; super cheesy and with a little spice. We will definitely come back often!

We were a group of 4 celebrating a special birthday and we could hardly hear each other to have a conversation. We thought the menu was limited for dinner, and the served strongly encouraged us to order an appetizer" because we wouldn't have any food for at least 30 minutes." My crab cake sandwich was good, my husband's poisson was fair, my brother's hamburger was OK, he said and my sister-in-law was happy with the duck she ordered. (she was being treated, so what could she say). The best part of the dinner, according to the four of us, was the cookies we had for dessert.

My first visit to Hot Chocolate, perhaps three years ago, was wonderful -- we were looked after incredibly well and had great food. Although it's very far away from us, we have continued to go back once a season, often with friends whom we wanted to introduce to the place. But I have to say, the imagination and care with which the food is prepared has diminished, and our last visit was particularly mediocre. Inter alia, there were vegetarians in our group, and in a young restaurant in 2014 there was ... nothing. And when we asked, the answer was: pasta with tomato sauce. You've got to be kidding me.

While Hot Chocolate is a favorite spot when we're in the city, we were disappointed in the service this time. We've enjoyed our visits numerous times previously, but it was different this time. The food was magnificent (as usual) and the place was absolutely buzzing, but we felt invisible for much of our visit. Our table was available fairly closely to our reservation time, but it took a full fifteen minutes for the wait staff to get to us after we were seated. Once the food was brought, in a reasonable enough time, it was a long time before anyone came back to check on us. I had the feeling as we left, "well, at least we're getting out of their hair". Unfortunately, we'll think twice about returning.

I discovered Hot Chocolate on Food Network several years ago and had been dying to try it ever since. Our dinner was fabulous. My husband had duck; I had whitefish. We took our five year old daughter who had a gourmet mac n cheese. The place was very active so our daughter and her energy didn't feel out of place. By far our best meal while in Chicago. You must stay for dessert. We ordered a glass of hot chocolate (there are many varieties) with 1/3 hot fudge (!) and the medium hot chocolate mix (and homemade marshmallow). Pure genius! We also ordered brioche donuts with caramel sauce. The staff was unbelievably kind, knowledgeable, and lovely. The neighborhood is wonderful, too, if you have time to stick around.

Our waiter arrived immediately, but seemed like he was putting on an act. This was confirmed as the night went on as he kept using phony catchphrases. We ordered the cheddar muffins to start; they were brought out quickly and were delicious. For our main, we had crab cakes and a lamb wrap. The crab cakes were good; they weren't great, but this is coming from people who lived in Maine. However, the lamb wrap was greasy, tough and unappealing almost to the point of in-edibility. If it wasn't for the spicy mustard that went with it, I wouldn't have gotten past two bites. Also, the main took 30 mins. to arrive. The restaurant is famous for its desserts, but after the long wait for the main, we didn't want to wait for desserts.

The host was sweet, taking drink orders from the very tiny waiting area. But that was ,sadly, the best service we received all night. It took 10 min for our server to acknowledge us. After ordering, or server said no more than 3 words to us the entire evening, even when laying down or check. The food itself was great, especially the Mac and cheese! I was a little underwhelmed with the burger which was supposed to be one of the best in Chicago:( but the crab cake sandwich was delicious and rich with crabmeat. And of course, the hot chocolate is heavenly. I would come back with guests, if I get a different server

We went recently for my birthday with a group of 7. They were very accommodating when we needed to change our reservation, however the great service stopped there. They brought our drinks back 2 at a time despite sitting right next to the bar and there was a span of 20 minutes between the first person getting their drink and the last. A little awkward when waiting to do a toast. The kitchen seemed slammed as well and it took a pretty long while for us to receive our overpriced dessert. I would go back for dinner, but was somewhat disappointed with the dessert selection from a place that touts that as their specialty.

Four of us dined at Hot Chocolate recently. We started out with a bottle of Rose that quickly lead to two, shared the grilled squid panzanella salad and a house made pasta entree and each of us ordered an entree - including salmon, crab cake sandwich and chicken. The food was wonderful. We followed up with the donuts holes and the cheesecake. Don't miss the desserts - amazing. Beautiful night - we'll be back.

Been a long-time fan of HC. We don't go every month, but we're a once-a-quarter guest. Have gone every year for the past 3 years for my wife's birthday. Also recommend it often to others. That said, this past Saturday it was an off night. Two entrees were uneatable. We sent them back and asked for a burger instead, which took far longer than a burger to an unhappy table should. Mine was still not cooked to my liking, but I was so exhausted that I dealt with it. Side of cauliflower ungratin was undercooked too. Bad items were removed from the bill with an apology from the waitress, who was great. Clearly the issue was in the kitchen. Extra wine pour and coookies were appreciated, but we gonna stick with dessert/drinks only moving forward.
