Diner Reviews
  • "The food is excellent at this Venice site as it is at the Santa Monica restaurant. Both are noisy but if you sit on the Venice patio it is an agreeable buzz instead of a din. The servers were helpful and pleasant. There are very interesting pizzas on the menu as well as good pasta and fish. I will definitely go back."

  • "We went to Hostaria del Piccolo Venice because of restuarant week, but it was way beyond our expectations. Our waitress spoke Italian and happily encouraged and helped my husband to practice his. She was great explaining the options for gluten free dining. We both has pizazz for our entrees and the food was out of this order. Everything was very fresh and delicious. My husband ended his meal with a moscato, which was as authentic as the ones you get at the end if a meal in Italy. Definitely check this place out!"

  • "We had an unbeatable Dine LA menu. Had very prompt service from start to finish. Their cocktails are not only some of the best on the west side — spicy and both sweet & savory — but also are really reasonably priced. I also noticed they have a great beer list, with some local options. The restaurant is beautiful and my friend and I were both so impressed in how tidy everything was. You can see the whole line, and even into their immaculate pantry. The chefs, front and center, were not rushing around, though it was very busy. We work in the industry and had never seen a kitchen and front of house work so well together! Like a fine tuned machine. Food was unbelievable. Delicious pizza, generous, fresh portions. My new fav. local hangout!"

  • "Carpaccio was very good, with the aioli mustard crime as opposed to simply Crudo. Excellent selection of pizzas. Could be a ibranr bar scene but I was there early in the evening. The tiranasme{not tiramisu} was superb, with a savorard creme and a light and airy cake in the interior. Service was excellent. I was happy to see a new restaurant scene on Rose Avenue in Venice."

  • "I absolutely love this restaurant - but the downside of being a hard core fan of this place is that the menu never changes. The pasta dishes are really great, but I'd love a bit of variety."

  • "Fabulous authentic high quality Italian food. Very hip casual atmosphere. Professional, attentive service. Hand crafted made to order, using freshly squeezed juices. Hard surfaces create a noisy environment."

  • "We love this place. Totally contemporary, and the outdoor spaces are perfect for people watching in the good weather. We have tried many of the salads, pizzas and pastas. They are all delicious. The wine list is good and fairly priced. And the staff is knowledgeable about the wines and the food. What a great new addition to Rose Avenue!"

  • "Was suprisingly quiet for a Saturday brunch time. The food was great though and it was good to have a nice spot outside on the patio. The service was good, and overall it was a good visit, we will certainly be back again."

  • "The salad with arugula and fried prosciutto was perfectly dressed. But the surprise was the best squid ink pasta I've had in a very long time. The sauce was so flavorful and the shrimp were sweet and perfectly cooked. I look forward to going back and trying something new."

  • "We went there twice and both times the food was excellent. The fried calamari, can not describe how good it is. The pizza with Ahi tuna, a must try."

  • "Delicious lunch with interesting choices always at this two-location restaurant. "

  • "Went there for brunch with GF. She ordered breakfast calzone and I ordered steak and eggs. She could see her calzone sitting for 10 minutes while my order got done. When calzone got to her cheese was already cold. My steak was good but it took the kitchen 3 trys to get eggs over easy done correctly. Management did nothing to fix the problem accept say sorry. Sticking with SM location. "

  • "good food. cool atmosphere. ok service. strange man in hat grabbing stuff off our table put us off. (hat man, please ask before you touch my nearly empty wine glass. I might be savoring that last sip). "

  • "I find the combinations of ingredients a fresh idea for Italian cuisine. Also very atypical Italian food choices offered. Yummiest Frico, Tuna Salad, grilled octopus, fresh fish, look at the way it's cook and that is the clincher. What you woyuld expect Italian Nouveau cuisine to be. "

  • "It was my first visit. Our lunch was at 1:30 on Saturday. I was quite busy and noisy. We had a table outside which was very nice. My husband had the octopus and loved it. He also had a pizza. I had soup and salad. The soup was so-so but the salad was good. Lightly dressed and fresh. The other two guests had pizzas which one enjoyed and one did not! I would go back to try the pasta. I would have liked more vegetarian options."

  • "I've tried and love every single pasta dish on the menu. Each one is so rich in flavor and never disappoints. This is my favorite restaurant in Venice. "

  • "What a wonderful Italian restaurant with exceptional food! We loved every bite."

  • "Food was great. Unfortunately restaurant is noisy (almost at Bestia level). We felt we were served fast, thus not a relaxing Sat night dinner considering we bought a bottle of wine. One male waiter bumped my chair every time he walked past was about to say something when the Bill arrived so couldn't be bothered. Went across the road to a great little wine bar and finished the evening off in excellent fashion. "

  • "We had been here before and returned looking for a really nice evening. Our table was fine, however there is a noise consideration. Sadly the story mirrored much of the reviews.Scalp While the Scallops appetizer was good, the main dishes we ordered, were disappointing I had a Squid pasta and the portion was so small, more like a mini portion. THat is really uncalled for as pasta is inexpensive for them and really it was like a few bites. That makes no sense The bill with no drinks came to $196 for three people. If the food had been great, no one would have cared but the value was simply not there.. We will not return "

  • "fabulous and innovative menu is always a treat --- just couldn't be more delicious, every time. we went there for a big group easter lunch and it didn't disappoint. Sitting outside at a long table with a group is the greatest. service was terrific "

  • "Not sure if it was an off night but the foid was just okay. We wanted the fish special.but were told by our waiter that it wasn't good and being sent back. So why even mention the fish special. My Friday night pasta special was deconstructed ravioli. Which wasn't great. "

  • "Innovative modern Italian, small plates at reasonable price. Good service, they exchanged something I didn't like. EXTREMELY noisy on a Friday night. "
    Dined on 4/18/2014
  • "This is the second time I've taken a client/friend and she was quite impressed. Did comment that the portions could be a bit larger. The Friday pasta special was amazing--would have liked another order! Only complaint was that initially the music was too loud -- assaulting for trying to converse. Other diners complained and the volume was lowered."

  • "We weren't sure about brunch here, but we loved it and will be back. The quality of the produce stood out. My only negative, was the french toast, it was fried and a bit heavy with caramel sauce, my daughters couldn't eat it, although the waitress said most people love it. I had an eggs benedict and the hollandaise was one of the best i'd had in los angeles. We also ordered off their main menu. We plan to make this our regular go to brunch spot."

  • "I have been a fan of these owner's restaurants for years and ultimately fell in love when I visited their first restaurant Piccolo back when it was a tiny little place that only had a handful of tables. It was my birthday and the guy I was dating took me there because he knew my affinity for good Italian food. Unfortunately, right when our food came he was forced to take a call from his work which he had to take outside. The owner saw his food just sitting there getting cold and took it upon himself to grab his plate and bring it back to the kitchen. He ended up having them re-make it so it was hot and fresh when my date came back. How many places in L.A. can you say would do that?!"

  • "Very good, just a tad expensive for the value for lunch or brunch."

  • "Nice and quiet with retro cartoons playing on the big screen for the early morning brunch crowd. Long bench seating makes it super fun for little ones to climb about. Wait staff was friendly, informative and helpful. Food was delicious and drinks were great. Would definitely go back."

  • "Really impressed with their pastas. The spinach pappardelle with duck ragu was only slightly outshone by their gnocchi because the gnocchi was like butter! It just melted in your mouth. Will definitely go back again!"

  • "The bacala will transport you back to that little wine bar in Venice, Italy where you stood at the bar with your "spritz" and sampled the accompanying bar snacks."

  • "Food was good but expensive. Menu limited. Extremely noisy inside but energetic crowd. Really good Italian beers particularly the artisan beers."

  • "Hostaria has two locations, this one and another in Santa Monica. Although I enjoy the Santa Monica restaurant a bit more, this one is also excellent. It's located really close to the beach so that's a huge plus. The service is great every time we go, I'd recommend it for sure."

  • "I met a friend for dinner. I had eaten in the Santa Monica restaurant and enjoyed the food. We went early enough and sat at one of the tables away from the TV screen.. The service was good, waiters, friendly, and most importantly, the food was delicious. There is something for everyone. The ambiance was comfortable enough, not posh, just comfy.. I would recommend to a friend for dinner and a chat, Rose Ave now reminds me of Puerta Vallarta Mexico. Take an out of town guest."
