"As someone born in Prague who returned to live there in the 1990s, I was delighted discover Hospoda, especially as there had been no Czech restaurant in Manhattan for many years.
The decor is original and pleasant to survey. The staff is very welcoming and friendly, service is good. The first couple of times I dined at hospoda I found that the tasting menu was too pretentious and the servings were too small. I prefer 2-3 courses with reasonably sized portions. The NY Times had the same critique. Hospoda changed direction and now the portion sizes are just right. I admire the creativity of some of the dishes, e.g. the small nettle dumplings which compare very well with the large, heavy dumplings found typically in Prague restaurants."

"Arrived promptly for my 9 P.M. This was my second visit(first time was excellent).
Out of 2 of the 5 choices for both first and second courses.(Pork chop and beef tartare). 45 minutes between appetizer and main course. Competent waiter left between appetizer and main course. Sommelier was more interested in boyfriend at bar than our wine pairing.Replacement waitress rushed us even though we were only 1 or 4 tables left.
Sommelier still smooching at bar.The substitute meat (liver was virtually uncooked).Dessert was a frozen cake warmed up. How does a restaurant run out of popular menu items at 9 P.M. on a Friday night."

"I went here for my boyfriend's birthday. We did the 6 course tasting. The food was amazing, large portions. On Open Table I put that it was his birthday and they ended up coming out with the dessert with a candle on the cake! It was a great ambiance and the whole staff was great. I definitely cannot wait to go back."

"Very happy we tried Hospoda - excellent (and generous) food, friendly and efficient service, and a downright affordable prix-fixe by fine-dining standards. The menu is inspired and wonderfully executed with helpful and diverse wine- and beer-pairing recommendations for darned near everything. Really a treat, and a place to add to your list of restaurants to try "despite" being on the Upper East Side."

"The restaurant was empty for brunch on Saturday, only 2 other clients came after us. I assume the ambiance is better at night. Not a large choice of food for brunch. The food was good though, the bread was sooo fresh and excellent, so were the croissants. Soup and eggs very good too and no hunger for some time after this! They also make very good fresh juice. But seem to have lots of beer for the evening above all. Will have to come back at night!"
