Hops & HominyGreat Food, Unique MenuThe staff is friendly, helpful, and unafraid to give recommendations--somewhat easy because every dish on the menu must be delicious.
Black bean fritters and fried oysters to start, followed by fried chicken with collard greens and corn bread, and bacon infused shrimp and grits for dinner--everything was well-prepared and tasted great!!
We also got tasty cocktails that often featured bacon :)
This was a top notch dining experience that is definitely repeatable. I'll be back to try more of the menu and deserts!!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ChoiceFound this little place hidden by Union Square, down an alley. The ambiance was fantastic and the food was very good.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMChic, Southern styleLOVED the collard greens and mac and cheese. Great, homey Southern comfort food with an upscale slant. Service was very attentive - nice, unpretentious attitude. Definitely a favorite!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFun restaurant!Service was excellent on abusy night. Fried green tomatoes were excellent! The shrimp and grits were amazing! Definitely will come back!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingGreat spot! Catch of the day is always delicious. Shrimp and grits are amazing though.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find for a pre-theater dinnerWe found Hops & Hominy through OpenTable and are glad we did. The food was great as was the wine. We plan to return to try more items on the menu. The Halibut and the Shrimp & Grits were very good. We followed that with the bread pudding, which was also pretty darn good.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time there and it wasFirst time there and it was AWESOME. Absolutely loved the fried oysters. The "vibe" was outstanding and definitely will be returning.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMNice relaxed atmosphere withNice relaxed atmosphere with excellent flavorful food. Everything was cooked perfectly and seasoned to bring out maximum flavor. Service was friendly and prompt. Can't go wrong here. Just don't ask them to call a cab. Apparently they don't have much pull with the cab company. It's much easier to just flag one down outside.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMDifferent food from the usual fareThe food here is pretty heavy - corn bread, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese. Even the salads are heavier than usual.
The food was tasty.
The owner/chef came by the table to say hello, which was a very nice touch. We appreciated it.
The place was bustling on a Saturday night. They seated us upstairs which was almost too quiet at first and then a big group showed up at a nearby table and things got very loud. Things were pretty intense on the main floor, so I'm not sure where the best tables are.
The food choices were interesting compared with the usual fare at other places.
The waitress was amazing - great timing and just the right amount of engagement.
I'd recommend the place for an interesting night out in SF.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was creative and beerFood was creative and beer and bourbon selections were fun.Acoustics were a bit loud and it was hard to read the menu in the dim light.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved the black eyed peaI loved the black eyed pea fritters. The cocktails were well-thought out and had a nice balance of original not too-sweet options and dessert-like drinks. The sous-vide seared pork chop was fantastic and the burger a delight. I wish that we could have stayed for dessert. On the whole, a great experience that I'd be happy to repeat. Our server also was incredibly attentive. I was surprised that the food came out so fast for prime time on saturday night.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat list of beer on tap.Great list of beer on tap. The deep fried oysters were fabulous. Best pork chop I have ever eaten; moist, tender, flavorful. Everyone at the table was satisfied. The bread pudding isn't what I would call a traditional bread pudding, but was out of this world tasty. Our table also ordered the fried green tomatoes, the burger, and the duck breast. Everyone left happy. Would definitely eat here again. Vibe wasn't amazing but was comfortable and pretty quiet for a small space - although we were definitely off peak with a 6:30 Friday reservation. What a difference the coat of paint makes - almost didn't realize it was the old Azul space.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic place. I've beenFantastic place. I've been here twice to celebrate special occasions and I'd gladly recommend it to any friend looking for comfort food or a good bar in the area.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always Hops & Hominy wasAs always Hops & Hominy was fabulous. The servers are helpful, kind, and present. The atmosphere is energetic and fun. Most importantly the food is wonderful! Each time I've been I've had a different item on the menu and each time I am impressed. This place is great for a dinner with friends or a date. The drink menu is creative and tasty. I highly recommend the shrimp and grits! You will not be disappointed!!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food (try the pork chopsGreat food (try the pork chops and fried chicken) and excellent service. Not the easiest place to have a 1 to 1 conversation, as it gets quite loud, but it's certainly bustling with patron energy.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMReally liked this place. SuperReally liked this place. Super fun atmosphere, good drinks and like for real that pork chop was MOIST I mean I honestly was not expecting much but it was GOOD. Loved the complimentary corn bread too!
Would go again!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my second time toThis was my second time to Hops & Hominy and it was just as good as I remembered it. We started with the black eyed pea fritters and the Mac n Cheese. Both were delicious. The entrees followed suit so you really can't go wrong with anything here. A great bonus is that they have reasonably priced bottles of wine in addition to a killer cocktail and beer list.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was awesome! The food and beer here is fantastic - but I want to take a minute to comment on the excellent service given some of the other reviews. I was in town with my colleagues for a medical conference this past weekend. We had a reservation for 6 but at the last minute 3 more people joined and we weren't able to notify the restaurant until we showed. The hostess and servers at Hops and Hominy didn't bat an eye! They rearranged the tables and we were seated within 10 mins. Thank you guys - great service!!3/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
