A word from Hopmonk Tavern - Sonoma
An 1888 Farmhouse with a 2010 renovation including a rustic tavern, outdoor dining deck, and expansive beer garden. We love being a Beer Place in the Wine Country. Come to HopMonk for fresh seasonal draft beer, tasty meals, local wines, rustic tavern atmosphere, a beautiful deck and beer garden, fine live music. Beer is fun; we know you'll enjoy our relaxed and informed service. We love large groups and accommodate them on a daily basis. You can expect to find creative live music; solo, combo and trio on a regular basis this winter. In the spring we'll host daytime headliner music every weekend from the Beer Garden. Beer dinners hosted by owner Dean Biersch (Gordon Biersch co-founder) are a monthly feature.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Not having been to Sonoma for some time my husband and I decided to take a ride from the City and have lunch in Sonoma. Not being big meat eaters we looked for a restaurant with a variety of choices and came up with Hopmonk. Not only do they have a wide variety of non meat dishes but they are not just "second thoughts". They are well designed items that are delicious and suitable for an entire meal. The wonton samosas with caramelized onions, corn and black beans could have been a meal in themselves and the grilled artichokes were among the best I have tasted. The service was friendly and efficient and the outdoor area pleasant as well as kid and dog friendly. We would absolutely return!"

  • "I've been to Hopmonk a number of times for lunch with family or friends. Love the beer, always friendly service, and decent pub food. I highly recommend the quinoa salad, and when available, the butternut squash soup."

  • "After a day of wine tasting, we were hungry for a dinner on a hot sunday afternoon in Sonoma. Hopmunk hit the spot!"

  • "We were weekending in the Napa/Sonoma area with our two dogs, and found HopMonk on a list of dog-friendly places to eat. The patio was very comfortable, and our pooches were given a nice bowl of water while we had our lunch. My choice - the pulled pork sandwich - was ok, not stellar, but certainly tasty enough. The accompanying slaw with big pieces of walnuts in it just didn't do it for me, but the french fries were AWESOME. Really, some of the best fries I have ever had. My husband had the Philly sandwich on naan bread and it was fantastic. He got his own helping of those awesome fries too. We each had one of the featured beers - I had the pilsner and he had one that was more amber. Both very nice."

  • "On vacation looking for casual dining with acceptable food. One server working with many tables. Took 23 minutes to get first drink. Food ok but service lacking."

  • "Okay food but really noisy. If you want to be able to talk, you'll want to request an outdoor table."

  • "The food was goof, not great, but good. Our server was extremely nice"

  • "First of all, using opentable was great. Helped me to plan my weekend getaway. This place was awesome from beginning to the end. The food, service, ambiance, menu, dining experience was awesome. We will come again and will be telling a few friends...we want to keep this little gem a secret we can enjoy often when we visit Sonoma/SF."

  • "Hopmonk Tavern was a great location for eight of us to celebrate a friend's birthday. Our waitress was exceptionally nice and helpful. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. We enjoyed the variety of beers on the menus. We all ordered different dishes, and everyone seemed satisfied. Looking forward to coming back on a warm evening to dine outdoors."

  • "We had a great experience, excellent food and live music. We sat next to the stage and were still able to have a conversation with the live music. That was a first..."

  • "Fine food. Nice beer selection. Servers are skilled. Patio is great. More than worth a visit for a good casual experience."

  • "Hopmunk Tavern came recommended by a few people and if you're just going for a drink I could see why. It had a decent bar scene and live music. The food however was very disappointing. Very bland and sides like fries had clearly been sitting under a warming lamp for a while as they were very stale. I would go back for a drink, but would eat elsewhere before"

  • "There on a drizzly midweek day, without much of an appetite...and driving so didn't take advantage of any of the beers whose descriptions were very tempting. The roasted beet salad and burger were excellent. Will return when I can try 2 beers and enjoy a full meal."

  • "we turned up just before 3 PM on our first visit to Hopmonk Tavern. Very pleasant sitting outside. Hardly anyone there, so it was quiet. We lucked out since happy hour started at 3:00 and ordered a great tap beer for $3.00 and 2 fish tacos for $3.00 off the bar menu, as well as a salad off the regular menu. Would definitely go again. The Hopmonk pilsner was delicious."

  • "We live locally so we've tried all the restaurants in town. I do like Hopmonk but the ambience is loud so don't go here if you want a romantic night. The food never disappoints. The fish and chips are amazing. I had the veggie lasagna and it was delicious. The beer and wine selections are incredible. The wine list represents the best wine in both Sonoma and Napa valley's. If you're into beer, there are many unique choices both in bottle and on tap. I was a little disappointed in our seating. We had reservations and we were seated next to the kitchen door. Walk-in's got better tables."

  • "We had a chicken burger with jack cheese, avocado, and bacon - c'est tres bien ! - as well as a beet salad - equally awesome. Worth going to grab a quick bite to eat before you leave town. Would totally go back. Great beer."

  • "We were a group of four wanting to enjoy the varied and delicious menu choices and share conversation but the music was SO LOUD and obnoxious that everyone around us had to start shouting to be heard over the music. Really too bad because the food and service are good. Management ought to seriously consider lowering the music to a background level. It was not the reason we chose the restaurant and in the future we , as locals, would not return unless something changed."

  • "Than to go during a 49'er game. Our table ( reserved) was right next to the bar and noisy as anything. I wasn 't able to relax or enjoy my company. As for the food, the beet salad was sopping in dressing, and the samosa appetizer that i shared with a friend was very weird indeed. Been here before and by far this was not the best experience. Will definitely have table and menu restrictions if I go back again."

  • "Great burger, and very good sweet potato fries, which you pay extra for, but worth it. Several sections to this place, so noise and ambiance vary, and you can choose where to sit, which is great. Prompt service. Kids are welcome."

  • "My girlfriend group had a very nice lunch, great food, service at Sonoma Hopmonk. We've also been to the Novato location with a similar experience. We like that Hopmonk has seasonal items on the menu."

  • "Great atmosphere, great food and very good service. Although they don't do separate checks, our server was very great and accommodating to our large group. Food was great and there was a nice fireplace outside to sit around when we finished our meal. Everyone in our group loved it."

  • "Good food, good service by friendly waiters, noise indoors acceptable. All said, Hopmonk is fine for a casual dinner with friends and family."

  • "This ia a great sports bar if you're looking for big screen TVs and an upbeat bar scene. As a couple we were seated in a quieter area, but not the least ignored. The servers were attentive, upbeat and the food was delivered quickly. Did I mention that the food was also delish? We had the fried sausage, chopped Caesar salad and Fish and Chips. The portions were large and big enough to share. We were there for dinner but I would go back for lunch as well to sit in the outdoor section."

  • "We found the Hopmunck Tavern a great location for our trip to Sonoma. Easy to find, easy parking and lovely outdoor dining area with music. We ordered a couple of starters, some sandwiches and salads and everyone liked the food. Only one person ordered a beer since it was mid-day. We would go back another time."
