I love some good food, but I'll eat just about anything you put in front of me, from any sort of kitchen you can find. But this food is truly a treat. I've been a few times now and recently had a special occasion to share there, and the whole night was really excellent. Great choices on the menu, as well as the specials for the night. Good beer choices, and excellent cocktails. My only criticism, no draft beers. But hey that's pretty great for the over-saturated restaurant market in Toronto. This is a true Roncesvalles gem, a true taste of the relaxation of Halifax, and a true pleasure to visit every once and a while.

The food was all delicious and there was such a nice variety. Was also excited to learn that Mondays are buck a shuck oysters! Loved this place and will be back.

Went to Hopgood's for my partner's birthday and we requested to sit at the bar, our favourite spot. The food was spot-on as usual and the service was friendly and knowledgeable as always. We had the hot lobster salad (fantastic! loved the hazelnut vinaigrette), donairs (so good. we get them nearly every time), oysters from PEI that were delicious and the scallop corn chowder. The chowder was our favourite dish. Perfectly cooked, plump scallops and very hot chowder. Amazing cocktails (Manhattan and the Yellow Cello) and got our favourite chocolate bar for dessert. Will definitely return!

This was my third time at Hopgood's - my husband is from NS so we were quick to visit in its early days, but I'm glad to say that the quality has not wavered. Took a friend from out of town for a taste of Toronto and we all found the food to be beautifully prepared - pork crisps were outstanding (on the specials list), but don't forget donairs. Must always have donairs! Great service, great fun.

You'd think it was, with the maritime theme, but its not. Yes it has clams, oysters and a fish dish or two, but this is California fusion with a maritime twist. Great service, inventive food and presentation with a fun vibe. Best dish - the smoked arctic char app. The Donairs are pretty cool too.

The service was very slow, half an hour before we could get our first drink, and that type of service continued throughout the night, but the food was excellent and the serving staff, when we saw them, were very pleasant! Unfortunately, for me, service is a bit of a deal breaker, so I wouldn't recommend it without cautioning about service.

I really enjoyed my evening at Hopgood's Foodliner. My parents are from the east coast so to have east coast favourites elevated and made with such care was great! The lobster sammy and the donairs were indulgent and tasty. The tomato salad was refreshing and a great contrast to the heavier dishes. The truffle mignonette was unique and flavourful with the oysters. Great cocktails and very warm and attentive service. I can't wait to take my parents here!

Service was very prompt, and we were always taken care of when we needed something. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the restaurant to anyone, and I already have.

Overall very disappointed with this restaurant. The restaurant is going for a taps style food, however many dishes are not optimal for sharing. Spaghetti, sandwiches...not really ideal for tapas. A friend had to wait over 45 minutes for the very complex Gin and Tonic, even after 3-4 reminders. The Lobster Spaghetti was delicious, but a very small portion. Frankly, for about $0.40 worth of pasta, they could've turned this bad review into a less bad review. Worst part was the clams. They clearly have not mastered the art of preparing seafood as the clam dish, in fact two orders were full of sand. On top of that we the waiter had the audacity to tell us that clams live in sand. Frankly, not impressed. Would not recommend.

It's a great place but it was quite expensive and I generally prefer stronger flavors in my food. Lovely staff though and if you sit at the front the ambiance would have been perfect (it was a little dark in the back). I think this place had just been talked up so much it would have been impossible to live up to hype!

This was the perfect spot to bring a friend from New York to catch-up. The room is very comfortable and the food was dynamite (still fantasizing about the lobster spaghetti), a terrific variety of tasty sharable dishes ranging from comfort food to adventurous. The cocktail/wine menu had some nice surprises and our friendly server did a lovely job of guiding us through making choices. A minor heads up – there was a bit of a wait (about 20-30 minutes) between the courses we ordered (I'm assuming this was because we were lounging at the bar and our server smartly decided to pace the meal). Next time I go to Hopgoods (which will happen soon!), I'll request dishes to arrive as a collective, or ask for some bread at the start of the meal.

I never write reviews, but I'd been looking forward to going to HF. Overall, it was disappointing. A very limited menu. The food was ok. We waited 50 minutes between our app course and main course and the seats were very uncomfortable. I was sitting on a wooden bench and the backrest was the wall. Basically, the quality of the experience was not consistent with the level of pricing.

The food and the service were great. My only comment was that when I ordered a cheese selection from their menu--Australian blue cheese which was delicious and a very generous portion--I was asked if I wanted bread to go with it at an extra charge!! I order cheese plates in most restaurants and it usually comes with either crackers, dried fruit or something to put the cheese on. I have never been given just a chunk of cheese (with candied almonds).

We went because this restaurant was identified as one of the best new places in the city and it was just okay. Service and servers were quite casual and the price point for dinner was not - service level didn't seem to match the menu options or prices... the food itself was a bit hit and miss... the cheese appetizer was one wedge with no accompaniment and the pickle one only had 2 slices of pickles... the lobster spaghetti came out looking like a tiny portion of kids mac and cheese but the bowl was a funny shape and so it was actually a good sized portion and quite tasty... the wine list was quite expensive... I'm not sure we'd go back.

We had visited Hopgood 3 times previously but had not been there for at least one year. We enjoyed every course and the service was excellent. The sharing plate concept works very well and allows you to taste a variety of dishes. The food is unique without being so over the top that you are not interested. Only flaw was lukewarm coffee but this was immediately replaced. We will definitely return/

Many elements of Hopgood's were amazing, Crostini, Cauliflower and clams and then green bean salad with pigs ear. Some other items albeit tasty were recycled from other restaurants; this disappoints. The foie gras with the peanut butter and jelly was an obvious theft from Canoe and numerous other trendy places, 5 years ago. The Halifax donar is tasty however fiercely dependent on the sauce as the rest of the creation is based on the processed donar meat from costco. Hopgood is on the cusp of becoming "great" I hope this review steers them to where they need to go.

High expectations were not disappointed. Had the snow crab & lobster spaghetti, with molasses bread & hush puppies to start. Everything was incredibly good. To be honest, we should've picked the donairs over the puppies (they were a little heavy given our other choices), but the crab was, in all honestly, the freshest & most delicious I have ever had. The drinks were pricey ($17 a pop) but very well concocted. The only downfall? We arrived for a later reservation (8:30) and every single one of the specials was not available by the time we ordered. The vibe was fun and engaging and we re definitely hitting up this little gem again.

This is my second time there, and I still enjoy the food very much. I had a late dinner there with 2 others with a 8:45 reservations. It was unfortunate by that time all the specials were sold out and even the veggie dip as well! They opened the front window and it was a cool summery night, and the fresh air was great as we had dinner a few tables away from the front window. The servers were great. The chocolate bar presentation was rather a surprise, wish it was at least on a plate.

Surprisingly all the seafood items on the menu were from the shellfish family. The noise level was almost intolerable. The waiter added a $ 65. bottle of wine to our bill which we did not order. When this error was pointed out to him, he was inadequately contrite.

I have eaten here twice in the last month and I was impressed on both occasions. Everything served from the bar or kitchen is spectacular. I'm not sure it's even possible to make a bad decision with the menu. The cocktails list is not overly exotic but the execution is perfect. The food options can be a bit cryptic (it's not entirely clear how the ingredients are going to be prepared) but I think that adds to the allure of this place and as I mentioned before it's difficult to make a wrong decision. One thing I will say is that the portions are quite small so you should expect to order a few of the entrees for dinner which makes this spot a tad expensive. Perfect spot for a special occasion.
