Hopgood's Foodliner is an awesome find in the roncesvalles area. The food is interesting and especially the daily specials are very yummy. The service is one of the best in the city and we always have a great time coming here! Highly recommended! Try out the the oysters for a buck on Monday!

An excellent dinner. Molasses bread for me was a trip down memory lane; I used to make this when I was first married and loved every bite. The Musquee de Provence soup, for us, was the highlight of the meal. Young woman who waited on us knew her wines and recommended a suitable wine to cut the richness of the chicken and shrimp with lobster. Well done!

Our second experience confirmed it... top notch food; over-priced to the point that we won't go back. $30 for an entree that doesn't include a side of any kind? $17 for a plain (though premium) martini? Too many other places have just as creative food, same great service, a quieter atmosphere with a more comfortable table and the bill is $40- $50 less. We're out.

This was my third time at Hopgoods - I keep returning for the Donairs (a must-order item) and the great atmosphere. Generally, the dishes are thoughtful but not pretentious. On this visit, I was particularly impressed with the brussels sprout caesar salad. My only complaint relates to the service. My table for two was kind of in a no man's land with no dedicated server. We were grabbing one or more waitresses, plus the bartender and the host at times, to get our order. The result was that we didn't start eating until after 9:30 pm (reservation was 8:15) and we missed out on the radish appetizer special that looked amazing. Despite the service issues I will be back because the food and atmosphere are really above-average.

Great food ideas, interesting dishes, presentation & taste! We had a wonderful server who was friendly and knowledgeable. I liked the atmosphere, the crowd and their wine list is interesting. There were numerous specials Saturday evening and we picked whitefish (very small and not too much to share between two people but nevertheless, very tasty). I loved the scallops chowder and was close to ordering another plate. Beet salad with feta also great. Good for sharing, all plates are fairly small but loved the presentation and taste.

Our second trip to HF, we had a tasting menu. The service was attentive, friendly, communicative and not obstrusive. Dishes were usually presented by our server and the Chef together, with good explanations of what everything was and what it was on the plate for. An allergy was extremely well accommodated with creative and tasty alternatives. The food itself was unbelievable. There was great variety, perfect cookery, clever seasoning. The meal structure was novel and creative, making prediction hard but exceeding expectation. Several dishes were being tried out on us for the first time, which was fun. Pacing of dishes was perfect. This is a very special restaurant. One of Toronto's very best.

I love some good food, but I'll eat just about anything you put in front of me, from any sort of kitchen you can find. But this food is truly a treat. I've been a few times now and recently had a special occasion to share there, and the whole night was really excellent. Great choices on the menu, as well as the specials for the night. Good beer choices, and excellent cocktails. My only criticism, no draft beers. But hey that's pretty great for the over-saturated restaurant market in Toronto. This is a true Roncesvalles gem, a true taste of the relaxation of Halifax, and a true pleasure to visit every once and a while.

Went to Hopgood's for my partner's birthday and we requested to sit at the bar, our favourite spot. The food was spot-on as usual and the service was friendly and knowledgeable as always. We had the hot lobster salad (fantastic! loved the hazelnut vinaigrette), donairs (so good. we get them nearly every time), oysters from PEI that were delicious and the scallop corn chowder. The chowder was our favourite dish. Perfectly cooked, plump scallops and very hot chowder. Amazing cocktails (Manhattan and the Yellow Cello) and got our favourite chocolate bar for dessert. Will definitely return!

This was my third time at Hopgood's - my husband is from NS so we were quick to visit in its early days, but I'm glad to say that the quality has not wavered. Took a friend from out of town for a taste of Toronto and we all found the food to be beautifully prepared - pork crisps were outstanding (on the specials list), but don't forget donairs. Must always have donairs! Great service, great fun.

You'd think it was, with the maritime theme, but its not. Yes it has clams, oysters and a fish dish or two, but this is California fusion with a maritime twist. Great service, inventive food and presentation with a fun vibe. Best dish - the smoked arctic char app. The Donairs are pretty cool too.

The service was very slow, half an hour before we could get our first drink, and that type of service continued throughout the night, but the food was excellent and the serving staff, when we saw them, were very pleasant! Unfortunately, for me, service is a bit of a deal breaker, so I wouldn't recommend it without cautioning about service.

I really enjoyed my evening at Hopgood's Foodliner. My parents are from the east coast so to have east coast favourites elevated and made with such care was great! The lobster sammy and the donairs were indulgent and tasty. The tomato salad was refreshing and a great contrast to the heavier dishes. The truffle mignonette was unique and flavourful with the oysters. Great cocktails and very warm and attentive service. I can't wait to take my parents here!

Overall very disappointed with this restaurant. The restaurant is going for a taps style food, however many dishes are not optimal for sharing. Spaghetti, sandwiches...not really ideal for tapas. A friend had to wait over 45 minutes for the very complex Gin and Tonic, even after 3-4 reminders. The Lobster Spaghetti was delicious, but a very small portion. Frankly, for about $0.40 worth of pasta, they could've turned this bad review into a less bad review. Worst part was the clams. They clearly have not mastered the art of preparing seafood as the clam dish, in fact two orders were full of sand. On top of that we the waiter had the audacity to tell us that clams live in sand. Frankly, not impressed. Would not recommend.

This was the perfect spot to bring a friend from New York to catch-up. The room is very comfortable and the food was dynamite (still fantasizing about the lobster spaghetti), a terrific variety of tasty sharable dishes ranging from comfort food to adventurous. The cocktail/wine menu had some nice surprises and our friendly server did a lovely job of guiding us through making choices. A minor heads up – there was a bit of a wait (about 20-30 minutes) between the courses we ordered (I'm assuming this was because we were lounging at the bar and our server smartly decided to pace the meal). Next time I go to Hopgoods (which will happen soon!), I'll request dishes to arrive as a collective, or ask for some bread at the start of the meal.
