Diner Reviews
  • "Not what it used to be. It chnged into a typical chain restaurant. The sushi is not up to pat anymore, and there is no selection. Most likely we will find suschi some place else."

  • "I finally decided to dine at Hooked a few weeks back, and it was pretty good. We went on a snowy Sunday afternoon, so it was quite(meaning not many folks there). I got the calamari and the fish tacos. My friend had the lobster bisque and the seafood gumbo. Everything was great. Really good fish tacos, although next time I will ask for the slaw they use to coat the tortilla shell on the side. The bar needs a little work - my drink (an old fashioned, was pretty bad). Would go back, but not in a rush."

  • "One of our favorite for years- keeps getting better. While we are not frequent seafood diners, we have grown to love the variety that Hooked is now offering. Sweet Chicken club is to DIE for! (and since the kids can't eat seafood, we order the gumbo with just chicken and it's perfect for them) Happy hour offers great prices and we look forward to the patio opening. Service is attentive enough."

  • "We tried the sushi and had entrees and the food was amazing. We were not let down. I took my boyfriend for his birthday and I felt like while we were in a restaurant, we were also nestled away in our own private booth. The tables were nicely spaced so you aren't eavesdropping on other conversations (or vice versa) but the restaurant didn't feel empty. There was a birthday party going on in an adjoining area and we weren't able to hear any of the noise coming from there. I will definitely be back."

  • "The dish special, plantain with shrimp, was the single biggest disappointment . The "plantains" were potatoes. The peppers were so minced that we were convinced they were canned. Did not finish the meal at all."

  • "My boyfriend and I were excited to try this place because we had been craving sushi! It has a nice atmosphere and lots of seafood menu options (not just sushi). I got one of their combos, sushi + miso soup and my boyfriend got a lobster roll. All tasted pretty good but, as a frequent sushi eater, it was overpriced. I had 6 pieces of maki, 5 nigiri & the soup for $18.90. The lobster roll was also $18.90 and a little skimpy on the lobster. Also a note of service, our dinner came and our server forgot my miso soup, a spoon, chopsticks & soy sauce dish...that's a lot to forget! Overall, a mediocre experience, but probably won't be frequent visitors."

  • "We had an early dinner here in the middle of the week, so this very large restaurant wasn't full and the noise level was fairly low (I have heard that this is THE place to be weekend nights for social interactions!). I loved the colorful, modern (but nautical - yes, it's possible!) décor and the ambience. The drinks and food were awesome - I would go back just for their cosmos and the crab deviled eggs alone. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. The manager stopped at our table and chatted for awhile as well. In the summer, I will look forward to drinks on their ample patio area when I am in the area again."

  • "Had a great business dinner with 3 colleagues. Service from our waitress, Tatiana, was surperb. Drinks were never empty and the food was very good. Calimari appetizer was great and all meals were prepared as requested. Will be sure to come here again."

  • "Out for lunch with a friend Had a noon reservation, there were only 2 other tables besides ours. Service was slow coming to take our drink order. Eventually the bartender who was also the server came over. The bartender was very nice and efficient and did her best to come over and check on us. Started with the crab deviled eggs with candied bacon on the appetizer menu which were divine! Like the Louisisana theme on a lot of the dishes on the menu Was in the mood for sushi so we shared a seaweed salad and the Inner Harbor Roll (delicious) and the eel avocado roll (was ok). Food was served in a prompt manner; Had to take the check to the bartender to pay since she had guests at the bar. Would return if in the area again."

  • "Compared to Passion, hands down Hooked is a better value by far! Great staff and food to match. Crabcakes are the real deal (and 25% less than PF). Will def be back often."

  • "Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out with that "wow" factor. Server was friendly and attentive; atmosphere was nice. An OK experience, but nothing we would go out of our way for."

  • "We were seated at a table that was not made. We ordered edamame and had to ask for napkins. We ordered dinner and the NY strip came on a rock to be cooked at the table. Our waiter did not provide us with cutlery and so that burned to a crisp. Had I known I could have brought my own grilling utensils. I was actually surprised because no where in the menu does it say you are going to grilling for yourself. The fat just soaked our cloths. I felt bad for the people behind us because no doubt they stunk as well. Obviously hooked needs to either needs to point this out on the menu or have the waiter let us know at time of order that this is going to be cooking for yourself. Too many alternatives, I will not go back."

  • "Had an amazing dining experience at Hooked after a brutal snow storm we were not sure if our reservation would hold up but it did! None of the servers showed up to work but the guy who helped us did an excellent job and he was super friendly and accommodating. He even gave us free dessert!!! Honestly since I've moved to Northern VA a year and a half ago this has been my favorite sushi restaurant and probably top 3 over all dining experiences. Thanks!"

  • "I am a foodie, and eat lots of sushi/ sashimi in different places. Many times I paid more than 50 bucks for sashimi dinner, and i thought it was worth it. This place has sashimi dinner for 29 bucks, and it was waste of every penny of it. It says chef's choice for 29 bucks, and it was really not worth 29 bucks for the quality and the portion. You would go to any japanese restaurant , get those dinner set for less than 25 bucks for a lot more portion and similar quality with other sides. I asked for decaf tea, because it was dinner time, they didn't have any decaf tea nor even regular green tea. 4 dinner came out to be $150, and i wouldn't come back here nor i'd recommend this place to anyone. Just go to a regular japanese restaurant."

  • "This was the second time we have gathered at Hooked Seafood in Sterling to celebrate both my birthday and my daughter's birthday. It happens to be at roughly the halfway point between our two homes. We enjoyed excellent food and service both times; and we were not rushed in any way. Interestingly, we were also seated at the same table both times. We arrived ar 5:15 PM on a Saturday. By 6 PM, the restaurant was mostly full, with a few folks waiting. We will most likely repeat next year. If we lived closer to Hooked, my wife and I would go there more often."

  • "We were a group of four on a Saturday night. It was a little busy but not crazy. Appetizers took so long to come we forgot what we had ordered. In general, the food was good and in the end they adjusted the bill for the incredibly slow service. I would probably give it a second chance. My stuffed Tilapia was very good."

  • "My teen daughter and I first visited Hooked on a week day evening around 5 pm. There was no one there. The food was great and we were impressed with the décor. She, my husband and I went there for dinner on a recent Saturday night and arrived at 9 pm. It was very crowded. We were early for our reservation so we went to the bar which was so loud it was annoying. The dining room wasn't much quieter. The décor at night is not nearly as appealing. It comes off as cold and uninviting. We were very disappointed with the service. With those prices, one would expect better service. As before, the food was very good. We may return for an early dinner some evening this summer and sit outside. Hopefully they'll have oysters when we do."

  • "A family party of 8 dined here to eat and catch up on things. The restaurant was quiet but being a Monday night that was expected. Service was good, prompt attention to our needs and correct order taking was the rule. We all ordered something different and each of us considered the meal quite good. The sushi was fresh and tasty, my ahi tuna was excellent in flavor and preparation and each meal delivered as expected by the group, some of whom can be quite severe critics of mediocre food. Desserts were shared and were just right. All in all we enjoyed the evening."

  • "My wife and I had dinner on Valentine's Day. The fixe price menu had a variety of choices. The Chilean Sea bass was delicious. The shrimp and crab claw appetizer was a little disappointing...good flavor but both the shrimp and crab claws were small. Service was excellent. We'll definitely come back!"

  • "We came in on a Saturday for dinner. It was just ok. The food was average. Our server was great! We was very friendly and gave us good suggestions. The place was loud and it was hard to hear our dinner guests that were just right across the table."

  • "Food and atmosphere are ways energetic when I am there. Sushi is great and the drinks are tasty. Moderately priced but it's not too bad considering the location to other areas with just as or more expensive restaurants. Great experience and will definitely go again."

  • "Overall great dining experience. The staff was friendly, professional, and very accommodating. Prices were reasonable, the food was well prepared and presented. The sushi was very good but the selection covers all the basis but is somewhat limited - that won't stop us from returning again!"

  • "We were eating early before a party so we hit the kiddie hour and extended (big party) family dining hour. We will be back to try some oysters and the outdoor dining at more of the datenight hour. The food was very good but I ordered the Halibut and tasted not even a hint of lemon grass. Might want to rename that menu item"

  • "we ordered sashimi combo, but didn't come with rice. sashimi is usually served with rice (I am Japanese), so it was disappointing to have to order it separately."

  • "My husband and I both enjoyed the crab bisque. My husband's specialty is he gets an order of the awesome crispy spicy shrimp and has them serve it with steamed rice. Great combo! I had the crab cakes - which are always stellar - along with garlic dirty fries. Great meal!!!"

  • "I took my wife for her birthday with my in-laws and everyone really enjoyed the food. I was a bit worried thsat one guest wouldn't like the food because he is not a huge seafood fan, but he had really loved the strip steak. Ambience was nice and very modern. They seemed welcoming to kids as well although it seemed more of a date restaurant. Overall a good spot. We plan to return"

  • "Always a great choice! We have never gone wrong with Hooked. The have slimmed down their Susi menu to a best of the best. I think it’s a good move. We will be back."

  • "I've never had a bad meal at Hooked. I had the Miso Sea Bass, which was cooked perfectly. Thankfully, the Miso marinade was not very sweet - only a hint of sweetness. Served with well cooked and seasoned Bok Choy, and steamy Jasmine Rice. Paco & Lola Albarino was the just-right accompaniment to a terrific meal. The atmosphere at Hooked is always great; but it's truly magical at dusk as the natural light fades away and the restaurant glows inside and out with soft colored lights that are strategically placed for best effect."

  • "Food is pretty good, service is OK resturant is nothing special. When you can sit outside the place pops --- especially when they have music. In the winter it is just so-so"

  • "We have driven by Hooked a hundred times and finally decided to try it. Only wish we had done it much sooner! Loved everything from the atmosphere, service and food- to die for. One of the best overall experiences we have had in the DC area in our 20+ years. Prices are extremely reasonable!"

  • "I heard a lot about Hooked. I felt like I was walking into a warehouse as the restaurant was pretty open with high ceilings. Not many people at the bar. The bartender extended happy hour for us as it wasn't that busy. That was nice! We had a group of 8 for dinner. The sushi rolls were great. I thought there might be more seafood to choose from. I just thought this was an average restaurant. Not great, not bad."

  • "Great food, service and bar scene. Especially like the fact that the management was insure and working just as hard as their staff. Also admired the interactions between mgmt and staff. This restaurant seems to understand that the overall experience is predicated on all parties being being in a pleasant environment. We enjoyed it very much and will certainly return."
