Diner Reviews
  • "Long wait for large group but food was worth it. There were eight people in our party and seemed like waiting for 45 minutes for our order is a little too much. I guess they had to serve everybody at once. Food was delicious and service was great, however, so it kind of made up for it. Will probably go back."

  • "The ambience was dark and run down-the springs on the chairs sagged so much you had to sit on the frame. Food expensive and unremarkable. Lobster rolls-very bland-NO seasoning including lobster. Halibut was over cooked. Sushi-simply ok,grocery stores around here are better. Dessert was good. Waitress was friendly and versed in their foods - she did a nice job but clearly had too many tables. The food delivery folks were nice but had no idea who ordered what. Received our lobster rolls and had to wait 10 minutes to receive the rest of the order. Espresso - what they serve is clearly NOT espresso. Not going back unless they remodel and bring in a new chef who knows how to season, better sushi and real espresso."

  • "We made a reservation for Sunday brunch, thinking that we might need one. Not so: At noon the parking lot was empty and the front door was locked. The hostess unlocked the door and explained that the bartender hadn't arrived, so they couldn't do mixed drinks. We asked: "Is there a chef?" Yes, there was, and a server had also just arrived. We were given dinner menus, then (when we asked) brunch menus, which included a few odd sushi choices and a lobster omelet that was way over-peppered. Crab cake sandwiches had only a dab of the promised aoli and were just OK, and the fries were room temperature. The desserts (especially fried bananas) were tasty, but not enough to save the day. Too bad, since Sterling lacks brunch options!"

  • "This was my fourth (and last) visit to Hooked. My husband and I went this past Friday night for our anniversary dinner. The food was meh, although the spicy shrimp appetizer is still great. I ordered one of the specials - a grilled seafood salad for $19. And since it was a special, I thought it would actually be special. What I got was an appetizer size salad with 3 small shrimp, 3 small scallops and a fairy-dust sprinking of crab meat. When I asked the manager about the size of the portion and the minuscule amount of seafood, he took a few dollars off but that was it. I don't see how this restaurant will survive. My advice - go to Ford's Fish Shack in Ashburn. Or even the restaurant that's now in Hooked's previous location - Mokomandy."

  • "The environment was something that should have been in DC but the prices should have not reflected DC prices. This restaurant had a great vibe that's why I was a little shocked that it was not crowded on a Thursday night. The food was nothing to brag about and I was glad that I had a groupon. Because I would have not spent that much money without it. I also did not like the fact that a 18% gratuity was automatically added to my bill for only 2 people. If I were to return, it would only be for drinks."

  • "I don't know why I had to wait to make reservation for so late when there was only one other couple dining in the place. I was hoping for a more vibrant scene."

  • "Had a great Father's Day dinner and was again given excellent service by Brian."

  • "What it boils down to is that everyone all but licked every single one of their plates. The crab cakes, the sushi, the blackened salmon salad, the tempura ice cream, and triple chocalate cake were all amazing. My only complaint is that the chair I sat in had a cushion that was almost lopsided and uncomfortable to the point I had to get a new chair. Server was friendly but not very knowledgable. Will still happily return."

  • "As always the food and service were excellent. We went for lunch. Hooked was not busy at all on a Tuesday. "

  • "Until the remodel is done (so they say) and sashimi and the sushi menus come back. H. never should have left GFalls plaza. Place is bad now. Would hate to see a once great spot die. "

  • "Hooked has some fine items on the menu-- Of those we tried, the tempura calamari starter was outstanding-- light, fresh tasting, well executed. Service was attentive and responsive, but not intrusive. Since we were outside, noise level was low, though there was a large party not far away. Nice variety of menu choices, from lobster rolls to halibut or ahi tuna entree, some imaginative desserts. We didn't try the sushi, so can't comment on it. A pleasant evening to catch up with an old friend, in a very pleasant setting! And, it was open on a holiday Monday!"

  • "The staff was great, the room was pleasant; however I thought the prices were high given the small portion sizes. "

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Hooked. We were skeptical to try the steak at a seafood restaurant but my cousin insisted. She kept raving about how tender and delicious the fillet mignon tasted. Banana foster dessert is to die for. "

  • "Great food. Improvement needed in service. Very slow service which I didn't understand with plenty of servers."

  • "Had great previous experiences. Went for mothers day and left in tears! They hand my 3yr old a open large drink - she spills it immediately - the wait staff just keeps trying to take my order while I am cleaning up! They tell us they are out of silverware and give us chopsticks-then had my toddler a sharp knife in front of me. Bring my food to me without the seasoning then tell me they will bring it out for me to add myself - served my husband old dried out tuna on his sushi, brought my kid fries that were so greasy he squeezed the oil out in front of the manager. the list goes on and on. Could not get out of here fast enough! Horrible service, horrible food, horrible management!"

  • "This was our third trip to Hooked. It is rare to find a place that does a great job with seafood AND steaks, but Hooked fits the bill. I am a particular fan of the crab cakes, the filet, and the seared tuna. "

  • "Good food and atmosphere at a very reasonable cost!"

  • "They have changed the menu yet again. This place went from a pretty darn good sushi establishment to a run of the mill fried seafood joint lacking any ambition. Also, I don't know what it is with this place but they always seem to have gnats/fruit flies milling about. I can now say I'm officially done with this restaurant."

  • "I love Hooked -- every time a friend, colleague or family came to town when I lived nearby we'd eat there. My Mom's 75th was celebrated there -- and they are far too classy to embarrass anyone by say, singing; a yummy complimentary dessert is far more their style. I love sushi, which my friends swear by @ Hooked, but I can't -- because I love great seafood even more. So that's why I dine there as often as I can -- because now I'M the one coming in from out of town and I HAVE to have the glazed salmon at least once during a visit!"

  • "Not what it used to be. It chnged into a typical chain restaurant. The sushi is not up to pat anymore, and there is no selection. Most likely we will find suschi some place else."

  • "I finally decided to dine at Hooked a few weeks back, and it was pretty good. We went on a snowy Sunday afternoon, so it was quite(meaning not many folks there). I got the calamari and the fish tacos. My friend had the lobster bisque and the seafood gumbo. Everything was great. Really good fish tacos, although next time I will ask for the slaw they use to coat the tortilla shell on the side. The bar needs a little work - my drink (an old fashioned, was pretty bad). Would go back, but not in a rush."

  • "One of our favorite for years- keeps getting better. While we are not frequent seafood diners, we have grown to love the variety that Hooked is now offering. Sweet Chicken club is to DIE for! (and since the kids can't eat seafood, we order the gumbo with just chicken and it's perfect for them) Happy hour offers great prices and we look forward to the patio opening. Service is attentive enough."

  • "We tried the sushi and had entrees and the food was amazing. We were not let down. I took my boyfriend for his birthday and I felt like while we were in a restaurant, we were also nestled away in our own private booth. The tables were nicely spaced so you aren't eavesdropping on other conversations (or vice versa) but the restaurant didn't feel empty. There was a birthday party going on in an adjoining area and we weren't able to hear any of the noise coming from there. I will definitely be back."

  • "The dish special, plantain with shrimp, was the single biggest disappointment . The "plantains" were potatoes. The peppers were so minced that we were convinced they were canned. Did not finish the meal at all."

  • "My boyfriend and I were excited to try this place because we had been craving sushi! It has a nice atmosphere and lots of seafood menu options (not just sushi). I got one of their combos, sushi + miso soup and my boyfriend got a lobster roll. All tasted pretty good but, as a frequent sushi eater, it was overpriced. I had 6 pieces of maki, 5 nigiri & the soup for $18.90. The lobster roll was also $18.90 and a little skimpy on the lobster. Also a note of service, our dinner came and our server forgot my miso soup, a spoon, chopsticks & soy sauce dish...that's a lot to forget! Overall, a mediocre experience, but probably won't be frequent visitors."

  • "We had an early dinner here in the middle of the week, so this very large restaurant wasn't full and the noise level was fairly low (I have heard that this is THE place to be weekend nights for social interactions!). I loved the colorful, modern (but nautical - yes, it's possible!) décor and the ambience. The drinks and food were awesome - I would go back just for their cosmos and the crab deviled eggs alone. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. The manager stopped at our table and chatted for awhile as well. In the summer, I will look forward to drinks on their ample patio area when I am in the area again."

  • "Had a great business dinner with 3 colleagues. Service from our waitress, Tatiana, was surperb. Drinks were never empty and the food was very good. Calimari appetizer was great and all meals were prepared as requested. Will be sure to come here again."

  • "Out for lunch with a friend Had a noon reservation, there were only 2 other tables besides ours. Service was slow coming to take our drink order. Eventually the bartender who was also the server came over. The bartender was very nice and efficient and did her best to come over and check on us. Started with the crab deviled eggs with candied bacon on the appetizer menu which were divine! Like the Louisisana theme on a lot of the dishes on the menu Was in the mood for sushi so we shared a seaweed salad and the Inner Harbor Roll (delicious) and the eel avocado roll (was ok). Food was served in a prompt manner; Had to take the check to the bartender to pay since she had guests at the bar. Would return if in the area again."

  • "Compared to Passion, hands down Hooked is a better value by far! Great staff and food to match. Crabcakes are the real deal (and 25% less than PF). Will def be back often."

  • "We were seated at a table that was not made. We ordered edamame and had to ask for napkins. We ordered dinner and the NY strip came on a rock to be cooked at the table. Our waiter did not provide us with cutlery and so that burned to a crisp. Had I known I could have brought my own grilling utensils. I was actually surprised because no where in the menu does it say you are going to grilling for yourself. The fat just soaked our cloths. I felt bad for the people behind us because no doubt they stunk as well. Obviously hooked needs to either needs to point this out on the menu or have the waiter let us know at time of order that this is going to be cooking for yourself. Too many alternatives, I will not go back."

  • "Had an amazing dining experience at Hooked after a brutal snow storm we were not sure if our reservation would hold up but it did! None of the servers showed up to work but the guy who helped us did an excellent job and he was super friendly and accommodating. He even gave us free dessert!!! Honestly since I've moved to Northern VA a year and a half ago this has been my favorite sushi restaurant and probably top 3 over all dining experiences. Thanks!"

  • "I am a foodie, and eat lots of sushi/ sashimi in different places. Many times I paid more than 50 bucks for sashimi dinner, and i thought it was worth it. This place has sashimi dinner for 29 bucks, and it was waste of every penny of it. It says chef's choice for 29 bucks, and it was really not worth 29 bucks for the quality and the portion. You would go to any japanese restaurant , get those dinner set for less than 25 bucks for a lot more portion and similar quality with other sides. I asked for decaf tea, because it was dinner time, they didn't have any decaf tea nor even regular green tea. 4 dinner came out to be $150, and i wouldn't come back here nor i'd recommend this place to anyone. Just go to a regular japanese restaurant."

  • "This was the second time we have gathered at Hooked Seafood in Sterling to celebrate both my birthday and my daughter's birthday. It happens to be at roughly the halfway point between our two homes. We enjoyed excellent food and service both times; and we were not rushed in any way. Interestingly, we were also seated at the same table both times. We arrived ar 5:15 PM on a Saturday. By 6 PM, the restaurant was mostly full, with a few folks waiting. We will most likely repeat next year. If we lived closer to Hooked, my wife and I would go there more often."

  • "We were a group of four on a Saturday night. It was a little busy but not crazy. Appetizers took so long to come we forgot what we had ordered. In general, the food was good and in the end they adjusted the bill for the incredibly slow service. I would probably give it a second chance. My stuffed Tilapia was very good."

  • "My teen daughter and I first visited Hooked on a week day evening around 5 pm. There was no one there. The food was great and we were impressed with the décor. She, my husband and I went there for dinner on a recent Saturday night and arrived at 9 pm. It was very crowded. We were early for our reservation so we went to the bar which was so loud it was annoying. The dining room wasn't much quieter. The décor at night is not nearly as appealing. It comes off as cold and uninviting. We were very disappointed with the service. With those prices, one would expect better service. As before, the food was very good. We may return for an early dinner some evening this summer and sit outside. Hopefully they'll have oysters when we do."
