Honu Seafood and PizzaConsistently five starI have dined several times at Honu since it originally opened. The food is always excellent, professionally served. The servers are professiional and stable. Always I am welcomed warmly by the hostess(es) and the people on the floor. The view from most tables is breathtaking and even though the restaurant constantly busy I never feel rushed when dining. I have been able to recommend Honu to many vistors as I am in the retail business. Whatever meal I selected is always at the proper temperature and beautifully presented. Seafood dishes are a specialty and always fresh. I have been there for special occasions, with groups of people and shared a wonderful romantic interlude. Top dining and a warming experience. I don't mind paying the higher prices if the food is good, and this was great! Parking is a bit difficult, but there is a small lot to the left of the restaurant. The food is excellent with a very interesting menu filled with lots of
choices. Service was wonderful and the view.....beyond words other than to
say "spectacular" sunsets. Ask for an ocean front table on the patio. It's worth the
wait at the very friendly bar. The menu is varied and their is something for everyone. The ahi bruschetta are fabulous. You really have a view of the water from all of the tables. Food was great, the Octopus and burrata appetizers were very well done and the Pizza was excellent. The crust had great flavor and texture and the toppings were well done also. This is up there with some of the best new Italian hotspots in LA.
Unfortunately, however, our server was terrible. She seemed only concerned with shuffling is in and out as fast as possible. We noticed the same attitude in the hostess as well, when she notified us at the bar that our table was ready she practically grabbed my drink out of my hand, she wanted us to sit down ASAP! The kale salad for me - the Fish and Chips for my husband (of course). The Dori style fish and a salad is great to share with a girlfriend. Honu is not only a wonderful location - it can be a special lunch and special dinner place. The food is extraordinary and you are always taken care of with professional service and warmth. I had the fresh Ipswich Fried Clam Sandwich. I come from New England, so I am picky about seafood! The clams were tender with whole bellies and accompanied by a huge mound of regular & sweet potato fries! YUMMY!! The view was amazing with our table right on the wall separating the restaurant and stone shore. The staff was friendly and attentive. We particularly enjoyed a server named, Alex. He took our picture and told us about the surrounding area and when the turtles visit the neighboring beach. Exterior run down. Interior eclectic. Tables too close together. But beach location is incredible. Try and get table by water. Mostly two tops by water. Food was excellent. Service was amazing as our waiter clearly knew the menu from top to bottom with great wine suggestions. The view directly on the water makes for a truly unforgettable experience. It was so perfect because we really were craving seafood and pizza that night. We got oysters that were delicious and one of the pizzas with the perfect light crispy crust accompanied by an amazing salad. We ordered a kale sprout salad that was so simple yet super yummy. crisp with a sesame soy dressing. Got the Poke appetizer as my entree. My husband ordered the margarita pizza. It was a good size. Very tasty and well prepared. Its a much better pizza and price than
fleetwoods by the way. We shared the gado gado salad which is big and filling. It has quinoa vegetables and a killer peanut dressing. so good. Always a good experience. We proceed to experience their kale salad with dates, pomegranate, walnuts, pecorino dressed with preserved lemon vinaigrette. What a burst of flavors! We both opted for the half Wok fried salt and pepper Dungeness crab accompanied by quinoa and vegetable medley of green beans, asparagus, Brussels sprouts. The cab took a lot of work, but it was well worth it. The accompaniments were perfect.
