  • "ok, wife had a cut of filet that was not high quality. i had prime rib that was a bit fatty. both were served cold ..... not lukewarm .... just room temp. clearly had been left standing and i don't think under a heat lamp. service was very good. wine and pricing reasonable if the food had been better. i had been there many times before and was quite surprised. maybe just an off night. hope so."

  • "very good as usual...lunch sirloin plate soooo good...took special aunt as she had never been...she loved it too...and it is so nice to be able to have nice conversation without having to speak loudly or missing half of what is said!...only suggestion---do something to give the vegetables that accompany the plates some flavor...they are cooked nicely but are totally bland...only weak spot on menu i've found..."

  • "Last fall we stayed in Richmond on our way to DC and went to Hondos, not knowing a thing about it. We had a fabulous dinner with excellent service. Last Thursday we were staying in Richmond again and specifically reserved at Hondos, taking my sister as our guest. We were looking forward to a great dinner! My husband ordered wine, but my sister and I prefer a cocktail. We asked our server, Nicole, 3 times for a cocktail/martini list and she said the bar couldn't find one. We ended up ordering dinner BEFORE getting a drink. Issues: steaks cooked correctly but plates and food not hot ; mashers not hot, lettuce wilted on salad, sautéed veggies limp squash, not great asparagus as previous visit.. Value not commensurate w/ cost."

  • "This is the second time I've had the Sunday brunch at Hondo's. It is amazing, to say the least! As soon as you enter you're hit with amazing aromas. We were seated right next to the omelet, Belgium waffle and carving station. The prime rib was so tender. Mike makes the best omelets! There's Eggs Hondo, bacon, sausage links, fish in a teriyaki sauce, chicken, grits, potatoes, frittata, salads, fruit, pastries, a chocolate fondue, and the most beautiful spread of cakes and pies. And I can't forget to mention the special prices on brunch cocktails, like mimosa or bloody Mary. The service is always outstanding and the staff friendly and helpful. There's live music. The manager greets each table. Love, love, love Hondo's and will go back."

  • "I had heard about Hondos for some time. I was disappointed to see it was merely a corner restaurant in a strip mall. I was even more disappointed when upon arrival for their first reservation slot of evening service- we were ushered clear to the back room where we were seated immediately outside the kitchen door - and next to the only other occupied table in the restaurant which had two toddlers ! We were "entertained" by crying kids and kitchen dish slamming/staff joking for a more than $300 meal. Yes - the steak was good. The waiter was very accomodating but everything else about the experience was sub par. THe noise level here is not meant as "ENERGETIC" but no other option was giving for intrusive kitchen noise. Not going back again."

  • "We deliberately waited to visit Hondos on a Sunday for their Prime Rib special, only to discover that they were out of Prime Rib. They did their best to right this by offering the Ribeye at the special price, however, when you have your heart set on a particular item, it is very disappointing to be offered a substitute. I requested the Ribeye be cooked medium but it was delivered very rare and had to be returned to the kitchen to be cooked further which messed up the timing of our eating together since my wife had ordered crabcakes that would have been cold had she waited to eat with me. The restaurant did not charge us for the seafood bisque to help offset our disappointing experience. The manager was also very nice and showed concern."

  • "From the valets outside to the hostess, servers and manager, each guest received a high level of attention from the time of arrival to the time of departure. The food was excellent, but when it's that expensive it should be excellent. The calamari and New Orleans barbecue shrimp appetizers were both cooked properly and had great flavor. The calamari was nowhere near as salty as that which we had at a high end seafood restaurant the night before. Everyone had steaks and all were cooked to the proper temperature; the servers asked everyone to cut into their steaks to check them so any problems could be addressed right away. The only negative was that the room was loud; it was difficult to hold a conversation without raising one's voice."

  • "HONDOS offers by far the best TOTAL dining experience in Richmond -ambiance-food-wine-service....all are consistently tops. The table settings are great, but the booths are an excellent, almost private space. Love the romantic lighting; the music has always been fine jazz, etc. and just the right volume to enjoy the music AND the table conversation. We are looking forward to enjoying a light meal for 2 at the Bar as our next experience, and then the outdoor space this Spring! Hats off to HONDOS entire staff!!"

  • "We have been to Hondos twice. The first experience was absolutely wonderful, everything was exceptional from the food to the service. Unfortunately, our second visit was very disappointing. The steaks that we ordered were burned on the outside and not very tender at all. The potatoes dishes were even bland and not as tasteful as our first visit. I do have to say, that when we talked with the manager he was very understanding and did his best to make everything right."

  • "We were looking last minute for a nice dinner out, Open Table got us a reservation within 30 mins. Everyone was very nice & welcoming, greeted us by name. We did ask to change tables due to a cool draft & they were very accommodating. Our server, Trevor was excellent. Attentive but not imposing, genuinely concerned we enjoyed our meal & wine. Steaks were great, good caesar salad, try the crispy fries or au gratin. Food was served promptly but we never felt rushed. Very nice atmosphere. Great special night out or if you want a very good steakhouse. We'll definitely be back."

My Cowboy steak was not as tender as I expected. Nonetheless, it was a special occasion and why let things over which you cannot control spoil the evening. I certainly must give our waiter (Shawn) high marks - he was excellent."

  • "I love the new location. It is much bigger. The food was still delightful. The staff was polite and acknowledged our anniversary. The atmosphere was elegant with the tablecloths, napkins, settings, and decor. I wasn't. Big fan of the clear glass divider. I wish they had both been frosted. My only service complaint was we ordered Mac and cheese and never got it. We didn't pay for it though, so it balanced out. I would still recommend this restaurant for business functions and special occasions."

My ribeye was a perfect medium rare and delicious. I rated only 4 stars because of the creamed corn which was unnecessarily cheesy and overly greasy, though my husband enjoyed it."

  • "This was our second trip here. The first was an outstanding Anniversary celebration. This time we took two of our special family members. We had great service and were not bothered by the waiter at all but everything we needed was there before we had time to ask. The Manager visited us and was quite polite. The food was incredible. We all had seafood and it had wonderful presentation. If I had one suggestion it would be to do something special with your bread. It was tasteless. I am sure with the price of dinner entrees you can do something special with a bread basket. It was a bit dark in there and the photos did not come out very well as was the check hard to read at the end. All in all very nice experience but expensive for sure."

  • "Very consistent. Service and food are always A+. The perfect spot for a business lunch when looking for a first class experience in and around the Innsbrook area of Richmond. Very limited parking and this day was an was an issue. The lunch time valet did not show up and had to park about a block away. If you need to talk business , ask for a booth as the tables in the middle of the two dining floors can get very noisy."
