Housed in two of Vancouver’s most iconic buildings, Homer St Cafe and Bar is a contemporary restaurant set in the historic Homer Building and new Beasley building in Vancouver’s Yaletown district. Classic comfort cooking takes centre stage thanks to a fire engine red rotisserie that roasts all manner of proteins. It’s chicken that’s the star here: served in quarter, half or whole portions, accompanied by classic sides basted in jus. A decidedly adventurous wine and cocktail list rounds out the menu. The restaurant features two spaces that consist of an open concept kitchen “Chef’s Bar” where one can get up close and personal with the culinary team, a private dining room with reclaimed factory windows, and bespoke seating complemented by antique tiling.

  • "Our party of three was underwhelmed and disappointed with the taste, quality and presentation of the food at my birthday dinner on Saturday evening. In anticipation of sampling Homer's chicken, I had deliberately tried Swiss Chalet earlier in the week as a point of comparison. It was a tie! My dining partners both had the halibut which was cooked properly but was visually uninteresting and the accompaniments were boringly ordinary. Overall the food was adequate, but unfortunately there was nothing distinguished or a 'cut above' about any of the items we tasted which included almonds, beet salad, sides of mushrooms and cauliflower, halibut, chicken and chocolate pudding. The service was excellent but that doesn't offset mediocre food."

  • "I am proud to say that I am a regular. I love Homer Street for their incredible food and service. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the food is always unique and lovely. The drinks are fantastic as well. It is always busy and I recommend making reservations but it is worth the wait ! It is definitely a neighborhood gem."

  • "Finally introduced Homer St Cafe to my friend who lives downtown. I had the special - Halibut goujons? -- yummy, they were perfectly deep fried but not dried nor oily, served with a tasty and tangy aioli. I would have wished the salad to be a bit larger portion but all was well. I recommended the crisp quail and carrot salad for my friend who loved it. She had a glass of red which I believed she enjoyed. We shared a chocolate pudding with maldon salt ...., very nice! My server was very pleasant, attentive and efficient, she has dark short hair, can't remember her name. It was a nice lunch crowd, respectful and not rowdy. They all look like regulars to me. Next, I'd like to try the brunch! Cant' wait."

  • "We tried Homer St Cafe on a Wednesday night last week. The atmosphere was lively and the room was warm and inviting. The tables in the downstairs area are cozy, but true to bistro style. The servers were attentive, helpful, and informative, making appropriate recommendations. The arrival of each course was perfectly timed and we enjoyed everything that we tried. A reasonably priced wine list with some nice choices rounded out the experience. We will be back!"

  • "What a wonderful surprise. I thought we were having lunch in a small bistro with 20 tables, then I discovered the main restaurant. What a brilliant design ambiance and atmosphere. Combined with exceptional cuisine and razor sharp service this is will definitely be my go to place for a lot of occasions. Not a big surprise when I heard that the executive chef for Homer St. is also Tableau's"

That coupled with unseasoned main and half cooked Brussels sprouts. I did love the pork belly appy and the restaurant is really beautiful. The greeters were nice too"

  • "I have dined here several times and never had a bad or even mediocre dinner, they've all been delicious. I am a gluten free eater who is dieting so have asked for substitutions which have been graciously accommodated. I highly recommend this fun, trendily decorated spot with excellent food and attentive service. Reminds me of a NY restaurant"

  • "When Vancouver gives you a rainy night, Homer Street and its many comfort food choices is the perfect respite. I have been a number of times, all rainy nights, hmmm ; food quality and service was consistent. We split the chicken, and had really yummy mushrooms and cauliflower sides. The hazelnuts made me like cauliflower once again. The evening was made by our male server, who was both enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu. Extremely helpful when it came to the cocktail list."

Bit pricy but nice place to have brunch with friends."

  • "We ordered a whole chicken which is supposed to be the specialty. The thighs had good fragrance of spices but the rest of the chicken, especially the breasts, tasted bland. Beside, the meat was too soft for me. I prefer more texture like free range chickens or French roosters. The baked nugget potatoes were too starchy for me. The potatoes skin would be better if it was crispy."

We had a phenomenal super Tuscan red with it, and finished with the warm peanut butter cookies and the salted chocolate pudding. Those toffee bits are like little crispy bits of heaven!"

  • "We have taken to easing into the weekend on Friday nights at HS Cafe. It never disappoints. Friendly service, nice ambiance but most of all high class comfort food that is satisfying and unpretentious. We love the pork terrine to start and this weeks grilled tuna an scallop special was divine. Great wine reco from our server.. Desserts are a must. I am addicted to the bread pudding but the chocolate pudding is also pretty irrestisable. And they actually serve a good quality espresso and know how to make it. I"

Pork belly is to die for and the chicken is a must with the gravy, as is the cauliflower and brussel sprouts (believe it or not). Affordable dining experience with family style sharing.   • "We really liked this place. Our server, Robin, was so great...knowledgeable, smart, funny (she even put up with my husband's jokes!). There are two sides: the newer side and the older side which looks like it came from the 50s. I'd recommend to sit on the older side...where you can see the kitchen. We had four in our group and went with sharing a whole chicken plus we had the brussel sprouts. It was all delish! We also had the pork belly and olives to start and again, both were great. If you're an olive person, I'd highly recommend the olive dish."

The service and ambience was great - not like those restaurants that are too dim where you can't see what you're eating, and not too bright where you're squinting. My favourite dish is the ribs! However it's not always featured on the menu, so it would be great if we could know when the ribs are available - perhaps a fixed day of the week?"

  • "Came here for the first time with 2 gf's and was surprised how packed it was for a thurs night! I couldn't make a reso earlier than 7:45pm and I purposely went in earlier thinking they wouldn't be that busy..but I was wrong. We got seated upstairs in a cozy area which I love. Food was delish. I had the trout which was cooked perfectly and the chocolate pudding is something alone that would make me want to come back for! Our waitress was also very wonderful, super nice and pleasant! Can't wait to come back!"

  • "Ive been to this restaurant twice both times at lunch the first time with a group and we all had a roasted meal. Fabulous lunch with no complaints other than we didn't get to appreciate the bustle of the restaurant tucked away in a corner. The second time with a girl friend we both had salads these were disappointing. I was expecting some great chicken on the chicken salad with the rotisserie and smell of roast chicken in the air. I love a good salad at lunch! The chickpea dip was lovely and so is the olive and cheese starter. I think if Im up for dinner at lunch I will go again. :0)"
