A word from Homer Street Cafe & Bar
LOCALLY MINDED. RESPONSIBLY RAISED

Housed in two of Vancouver’s most iconic buildings, Homer St Cafe and Bar is a contemporary restaurant set in the historic Homer Building and new Beasley building in Vancouver’s Yaletown district. Classic comfort cooking takes centre stage thanks to a fire engine red rotisserie that roasts all manner of proteins. It’s chicken that’s the star here: served in quarter, half or whole portions, accompanied by classic sides basted in jus. A decidedly adventurous wine and cocktail list rounds out the menu. The restaurant features two spaces that consist of an open concept kitchen “Chef’s Bar” where one can get up close and personal with the culinary team, a private dining room with reclaimed factory windows, and bespoke seating complemented by antique tiling.

This is a very noisy resteraunt . The service was marginal. The waiter kept throwing dirty dishes into the bin 15 feet from us with this huge clatter that was jarring. The famous chicken was over brined. In fact it was no better than the Safeway deli chicken I had the day before.

I had heard so much about the place, we had to try it. They are staffed up to no end, all decked out in suede aprons. Very clean and beautiful multi levelled place. While the chicken was out standing, turns out it had been brined for 4 days. We also had some weird special with pork tenderloins, Kale, peppers and TUNA that was cooked beyond a leather quality. Not quite sure what the chef was communicating there. The Chocolate pudding with malden salt was incredible. Surprisingly not pricy with a cool hipster vibe. They even had their own filtered fizzy water that once you pay $3.50 per person, they bring an endless supply.

I was impressed with the menu - there was a wide variety of foods with an upscale twist. I enjoyed the fish balls and a half chicken dinner with a couple of sides. Portions are large so keep that in mind when ordering. The only downfall was our server who wasn't friendly...

I love going back to a place that offers outstanding service, great ambience, excellent food and beverages without feeling like you are being rushed or given a deadline to complete your meal and move along for the next party. Homer St Cafe is that kind of place. Been there 5 times and each time its the same. Love it!

First time at Homer Street Cafe, and was very happily surprised by level and quality of service. Heard about the space by word of mouth and finally went with some friends. The hostess and wait staff were outstanding and well polished, with a keen sense for detail.A big surprise for the Vancouver restaurant scene. The space is well decorated with the a fresh menu, apparently changing from week to week. The cocktail list was well put together and our waiter was happy to make suggestions based on our tastes. The pork ribs were juicy and well portioned, sad no chicken and ribs combo, and the coleslaw was a disappointment as it was made with sunflower seeds. The space can be noisy, and the music played did not enhance the dining experience.

HSC can be inconsistent in its guest experience and I guess I caught the place when the tide was out. The service was a real disappointment. My waiter never checked on me after taking my order and I waited for 20 minutes after finishing my meal for dishes to be cleared. It was like I had been forgotten. I has the halibut which was ok, at best. Not a lot of interesting flavours at all in the dish. Perhaps the lentils were the highlight of the plate which is unfortunate. All things considered my dining experience was a disappointment and the value was poor for the price paid. I actually live two blocks away and could frequent the place but won't because of this experience. Maybe I will try them again in a few months at the earliest.

Very busy place. Converted old building. Confusing entrance - walk in the open door only to be told that you have to walk through the restaurant to the new addition to check in and then get brought back to the original location to be seated. Very limited menu - 4 mains and a rotisserie chicken. No specials. Good local wine list. 2 hour limit on dining. When I spend over $300 on a dinner for 3 I expect to stay as long as I want. Food was good and nicely presented - not outstanding or mouth watering. Same sides were provided with the 3 different mains we ordered. Not worth going back.

As this was our first time, it was a pleasure to be greeted promptly and seated without a fuss. The staff was gracious, attentive and there when needed. The food was good. If possible to say it tis way, it was home cooked comfort food, with a flare that can only be imparted by a extremely competent chef. The wine selection was ample, however the beer list was rather short.

While waiting, the floor manager, was not in the least bit interested in my "middle aged presence". Then when I overheard "wine club", I asked if it was something they did. She snapped it was a PRIVATE function like I was some kind of an idiot. Our server tried but the second she left the smile disappeared. She was making every attempt to "be patient". The evening special was a disaster. The sausage medallions were like croutons and the tuna cooked to the point of looking like chicken. Vegetables were delightful but only by comparison. My friend had the pasta and said it was lovely. My husband was there for lunchand had a similar experience. Below par food for the cost and "tude" amongst the servers. Won't be back.

Homer St. Cafe was a top-notch recommendation. The menu was not only creative, but so hard to choose from because of the number of great choices. We thoroughly enjoyed each and every dish from appetizers to dessert, and had great, friendly service. The wines we chose by the glass were also quite good. Overall, it was a superb experience and one that I would highly recommend. I would unquestionably return on my next trip to Vancouver. I heard from a local that their roasted chicken is also excellent. We sat outside.

While the food is outstanding the fact that a top end popular restaurant such as this does not have air conditioning nor even a fan where our party of six was sitting is beyond comprehension. All parts of eating out, particularly in a higher end restaurant, should be enjoyable. While the food and service lived up to their reputation, we were actually sweating at our table and had to curtail the evening without desert it was so uncomfortable. This is not how a very good restaurant stays and plateaus, as all parts of the experience should be at the same level.

We had a polenta entree as an appetizer to share which was delicious. The brick chicken was very tasty, but we were disappointed that no breast meat was in the dish, just thigh and leg meat. It needs to be specified on the menu. The bread needs to be changed as it's bland and dry, and for those of us who love great bread with great food, it was disappointing. Overall the food was very good and there was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant, attentive and very good servers.

We went here to celebrate our son's 21st Birthday, with three generations ranging from 13 years old to...older. The food selection and surroundings at the Homer St Cafe are special enough to feel that we had more than just a family night out, yet its casual enough that the kids enjoyed it. We ordered widely across the menu and everything was good. On the downside it's very loud, the acoustics of the tall, tiled room make hearing conversations tough! And the waiter clearly had never poured Champagne before, so I had to take over but otherwise it was attentive and professional.

Went in with VERY high hopes for this place! However, the food just did not live up to the hype. The good: BEAUTIFUL space, very well done, excellent service with a very nice and informed waitress. The bad: food was okay, with some being better than others. Pork belly was very good, everything was just okay, and that includes the "famous" rotisserie chicken. The breast was dry, chicken lacked flavor and the gravy was only okay. Overall we had fun because of the service and the space, but there is better chicken/food elsewhere for sure.

My first food experience at this restaurant was fabulous. The best chicken sandwich I have ever had. Each and every bite was mouth watering. This weeks return with guests who I had raved to was a big disppointment. The sandwich was bland. I thought the kitchen forgot to put the aoili sauce on so asked for a side. It didn't help. The chicken had no flavour and for some reason the bacon and tomato were no help. To top it off my sisters sandwich included a piece of bone & gristle. Based on this experience we would not have returned. On the bright side the corn jalapeño soup was excellent as was the crab cake (1 cake, teeny portion for $16).

Food was good and service was excellent. But two things disappointed which would certainly influence my decision to return. Firstly, it is just far too noisy inside to be able to be able to converse properly. They need to do something about the acoustics. The café is not air conditioned and, again that would influence my decision to return when the weather is hot, as it was on the day we visited.

The space is really cool, with a great decor and vibrant vibe. My complaint would be that we were put into the upper room and faced a black wall for two hours. Didn't exactly get to enjoy any atmosphere. Maybe an oversized mirror flanking the expanse of the wall would've made me feel like I was in a restaurant with other patrons rather than having nothing to look at other than picture of roosters.

Gorgeous summer weather in Vancouver - gorgeous summer menu - just perfect. My favs include the grilled calamari appy - totally refreshing, the next evolution of the baked halibut - love the spelt berries, and the slow cooked rabbit leg - tender, smooth and totally yummy on a fantastic carrot puree. HSC patio is a cool and relaxing spot to enjoy the bext of BC weather. What has not changed is the friendly and knowledgeable staff from the bar to the floor. The team makes the experience that much better. As always, the rotisserie chicken is to die for as well as the other goodies that are featured. If you have not been here, summer is the perfect time to go!

Currently, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I was there for lunch this week with a client. The fish was so over cooked it was completely dried out. The person at the adjacent table was a peer in my profession, hers was also totally dried out. Both the manager and waiter's response to us was just sorry. I was totally supprised that they would charge a custoomer full price for a terrible meal. Any well respected restaurant in town would stand behind their food and not chanrge a client if it is terrible. Sorry, is that really the best you can do - come on, really!

After reading some good reviews on their rotisserie chickens, it was a bit of a letdown. The chicken was good (a bit overpriced for what you get), but not great. The glass of sparkling wine was underpoured, making it not worth the price. Ambiance was good and sitting on the patio made the dining experience very pleasant on a summer's evening.

The hostess gave us a window seat which was wonderful until the sun was right in my eye. Wished the resturant had install blinds. Also our waiter was a bit rude. He looked annoyed when we asked about the menu and when we didn't want to order 2nd round of drinks. I iwill not likely sit at his section again.

So I finally decided to try out Homer Street Cafe. The restaurant is actually quite cute inside and I had no idea they had two sections to it. I ordered the sucking pig croquette as the appetizer and it came with a few prawns. The prawns were quite fresh and tasty but a bit too salty for my liking. The pork croquettes were dry on the inside as it was just bites of meat. For the main, my partner and I tried their famous roasted chicken. I ordered a half chicken which is a decent size for one person. The chicken was good, but again it was quite salty. The meat was moist and I am sure they brined the chicken before roasting it. The gravy that came with the chicken was mediocre. Their beef steak came out overdone and the sauce was too salty.
