A word from Homer Street Cafe & Bar
LOCALLY MINDED. RESPONSIBLY RAISED

Housed in two of Vancouver’s most iconic buildings, Homer St Cafe and Bar is a contemporary restaurant set in the historic Homer Building and new Beasley building in Vancouver’s Yaletown district. Classic comfort cooking takes centre stage thanks to a fire engine red rotisserie that roasts all manner of proteins. It’s chicken that’s the star here: served in quarter, half or whole portions, accompanied by classic sides basted in jus. A decidedly adventurous wine and cocktail list rounds out the menu. The restaurant features two spaces that consist of an open concept kitchen “Chef’s Bar” where one can get up close and personal with the culinary team, a private dining room with reclaimed factory windows, and bespoke seating complemented by antique tiling.

Diner Reviews
  • "The space is really cool, with a great decor and vibrant vibe. My complaint would be that we were put into the upper room and faced a black wall for two hours. Didn't exactly get to enjoy any atmosphere. Maybe an oversized mirror flanking the expanse of the wall would've made me feel like I was in a restaurant with other patrons rather than having nothing to look at other than picture of roosters."

  • "Gorgeous summer weather in Vancouver - gorgeous summer menu - just perfect. My favs include the grilled calamari appy - totally refreshing, the next evolution of the baked halibut - love the spelt berries, and the slow cooked rabbit leg - tender, smooth and totally yummy on a fantastic carrot puree. HSC patio is a cool and relaxing spot to enjoy the bext of BC weather. What has not changed is the friendly and knowledgeable staff from the bar to the floor. The team makes the experience that much better. As always, the rotisserie chicken is to die for as well as the other goodies that are featured. If you have not been here, summer is the perfect time to go!"

  • "Love the rotating rotisserie menu. I have been to Homer Street Cafe and Bar twice and lamb has been the feature both times and both times it was delicious. I am looking forward to trying the others. Perfect portions for me, others may say they are on the small side but thats what appetizers are for and plus they all sounded wonderful."

  • "I like this restaurant very much. Very lovely space with so much light and so many windows; beautiful tile and marble everywhere. Interesting menu and great specials. Chicken is amazing and all food is so well prepared, quality ingredients."

  • "Currently, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I was there for lunch this week with a client. The fish was so over cooked it was completely dried out. The person at the adjacent table was a peer in my profession, hers was also totally dried out. Both the manager and waiter's response to us was just sorry. I was totally supprised that they would charge a custoomer full price for a terrible meal. Any well respected restaurant in town would stand behind their food and not chanrge a client if it is terrible. Sorry, is that really the best you can do - come on, really!"

  • "Food is amazing ... top shelf across the board! Try to get a spot outside or upstairs as near the kitchen in the summer it can be very warm!"

  • "After reading some good reviews on their rotisserie chickens, it was a bit of a letdown. The chicken was good (a bit overpriced for what you get), but not great. The glass of sparkling wine was underpoured, making it not worth the price. Ambiance was good and sitting on the patio made the dining experience very pleasant on a summer's evening."

  • "The food was very good and we love the decor. This is the second time I dine there and this time we sat the the older building. The hostess gave us a window seat which was wonderful until the sun was right in my eye. Wished the resturant had install blinds. Also our waiter was a bit rude. He looked annoyed when we asked about the menu and when we didn't want to order 2nd round of drinks. I iwill not likely sit at his section again."

  • "On a very warm evening they seated us in the wine room which was the coolest spot in the place. We were not there to be seen and mostly wanted to visit with our guests and so it was really good for conversation and perfect temperate. The chicken skin side was appreciated by the foodie in all."

  • "So I finally decided to try out Homer Street Cafe. The restaurant is actually quite cute inside and I had no idea they had two sections to it. I ordered the sucking pig croquette as the appetizer and it came with a few prawns. The prawns were quite fresh and tasty but a bit too salty for my liking. The pork croquettes were dry on the inside as it was just bites of meat. For the main, my partner and I tried their famous roasted chicken. I ordered a half chicken which is a decent size for one person. The chicken was good, but again it was quite salty. The meat was moist and I am sure they brined the chicken before roasting it. The gravy that came with the chicken was mediocre. Their beef steak came out overdone and the sauce was too salty."

  • "Had a great lunch. Very attentive service! The menu is interesting and unfamiliar as is the wine list so let your server make suggestions. We enjoyed all of the suggestions and will have to come back to try more things on this menu."

  • "We had a family style meal of one roasted chicken and three sides. It was suggested that we order the daily roast, as the server thought one chicken may not be enough for the four of us. It absolutely was. The roast chicken was succulent and absolutely delicious. The sides, roast potatoes, cauliflower puttanesca, charred brocolini and grilled mushrooms, were fantastic. It was wholesome, delicious, beautifully served food and we will go back. Moreover, it was great value!"

  • "The service was very good and friendly. The setting, on the patio, was great but the street noise was annoying made worse by the scraping of the metal chairs being moved by both customers and waiters alike! This is my 3rd time - once downstairs at the bench in front of chickens, 2nd was upstairs in bar area - both had great ambience. It is a pity about street noise which seems to be worse than I have ever encountered. Anyway, the food was great - maybe I just needed a drink or 4!"

  • "We ate an outstanding risotto, excellent chicken, solid cauliflower, and great dessert. Only problem: my friend was served an alcoholic drink by mistake, the liquor in which was not detectable, and became quite inebriated as a result. No lasting damage luckily."

  • "It's so good, I have to order it every time. Had the trout for my main and it was delicious, too."

  • "I love the space at Homer St. and I brought colleagues from Los Angeles. The seafood was incredible (I actually wanted the Halibut which hadn't showed up that day but the trout was just as delish!) and service friendly and efficient. It was a hit!"

  • "Homer St Cafe has the BEST roast chicken I`ve ever had. I love chicken and it`s great to be able to watch them roast the birds in house. I can`t praise the chicken enough. The potatoes are great too The best drink is the strapping sipper. SO good. My mouth is watering just typing this"

  • "This place marks all the boxes. The service was great, the decor makes you feel like you're in another city...and the best part of all the food is incredible! Enjoyed the steak, perfectly done as well as the halibut! The dessert with honeycomb bits was to die for! The server was very knowledgable with the wine pairings and even had us try chartreuse for digestifs! Excellent dining experience! I would (and already have) recommended this place! "

  • "I promised myself on this visit to order the chicken. In the past many other items on the menu have distracted me from the chicken. I kept my promise, and the chicken and tiny potatoes were wonderful. This is the best chicken I've eaten in Vancouver. "

  • "Love this place! Have been for diners with bigger groups and just two. Every time it has been great. The roast chicken is what I have almost always because it is so tasty. They make a great dirty martini with three olives. "

  • "I tried it for the first time last Monday as a birthday dinner celebration with my two girl friends. It was a great spot - loved the atmosphere, the food, and the service. My risotto dish was really tasty and I would definitely go back to try other dishes."

  • "I've attended twice, the first time was with my favorite Boss for my anniversary, it was a very nice learning experience as I don't normally eat the foods you serve. Both experiences were great in every way. However, this second visit with my great friend MO, I found out she is allergic to mushrooms. We both chose the same dish, the menu listed all the ingredients except the mushrooms - she did not think to ask (bad Mo!). But the server and the chef were fantastic to take the dish back and recreate the same dish without the mushrooms! Mushrooms can kill my friend Mo. Thank you !!! She survived her fabulous meal to one day marry her ever so loving man! Cheers!"

  • "i had lunch at the homer street cafe and the experience was made so much better by our fantastic server. he was helpful, funny, attentive and certainly enhanced the whole experience. • "We went here for lunch prior to an engagement at The Orpheum. The chicken is as delicious as everyone says it is! The service was kind and helpful and we never felt we were being rushed out; however, we were in somewhat of a hurry, which worked out perfectly as we were able to enjoy a fantastic lunch and still be on time for the performance. I will definitely be back for an evening visit… the place is just too cute for words and I think I would like to treat my hubby to a romantic dinner here. Good job Homer Street Cafe!"

  • "I forget the name of the server we had but i was there on monday night for a reservation at 8pm and the two of us sat on the patio and were served by a nice lady who are orgionally from Quebec she had a slight accent that we asked her about. she made great recomendations really knew her wine. we allow her to just pick items out for us after we heard her speak about the food. Honestly one of the best dinning experiences i've had in vancouver."

  • "Maybe I was overly enthusiastic about going, but for me, it didn't live up to what I had heard. Drinks and appies were great! One of my parties beef was tough, my chicken was good, but the potatoes were very dull...whole baby potatoes, no butter, garnish, sauce...nothing! The chocolate pudding was excellent and very rich. Very unusual music from classical to rock to just odd. I would probably try again, but wouldn't rush back."

  • "Nice to find a great restaurant without all the attitude that usually goes with them"
    Dined on 5/9/2014
  • "A lot here to like...great room, decent if small cocktail, wine and beer list. The selection is well priced and served, fresh, but the kitchen needs to find some nuance given the excessive salt used throughout. Would try again but with some restraint. "

  • "We chose the Homer St. Cafe to celebrate a friend's birthday. She was impressed and so were we. Delicious food in more than decent portions and a gorgeous wine list. Next time we'll have to try some of their cocktails, & there'll definitely be a next time. Highly recommended."

  • "Had Dinner with an old friend and made a reservation. We were put in the upper section which was nice as it a very comfortable room and easier to have a two-way conversation. Food was yummy and waiter was a delight. Look forward to returning soon. "
