A word from Homer Street Cafe & Bar
LOCALLY MINDED. RESPONSIBLY RAISED

Housed in two of Vancouver’s most iconic buildings, Homer St Cafe and Bar is a contemporary restaurant set in the historic Homer Building and new Beasley building in Vancouver’s Yaletown district. Classic comfort cooking takes centre stage thanks to a fire engine red rotisserie that roasts all manner of proteins. It’s chicken that’s the star here: served in quarter, half or whole portions, accompanied by classic sides basted in jus. A decidedly adventurous wine and cocktail list rounds out the menu. The restaurant features two spaces that consist of an open concept kitchen “Chef’s Bar” where one can get up close and personal with the culinary team, a private dining room with reclaimed factory windows, and bespoke seating complemented by antique tiling.

I love the ambience of Homer St. Cafe. It reminds me of my favourite restaurants in New York and Barcelona. The bar tenders know their business; the chefs are creative in their use of locally sourced foods. I have never been disappointed here.

This was my second time and like the first time, the food was fantastic, as well as the presentation and the service. However, the noise level was extremely high in the high ceiling area where we were and my friend and I had a hard time hearing each other. It was lunch time and the place was full. My first experience was at dinner time and we were seated in a room at the back. It was a much pleasant experience because of the quiet ambiance. I won't return for lunch, but will return for dinner.

Our first time at this restaurant and it was excellent. From staff to food quality it could not have been better. Based on our servers recommendation we chose the whole chicken served family style and ordered side plates of veggies. Best tasting chicken I've ever had in a restaurant. Rivalled home cooked, and mine is spectacular! The salads are definitely noteworthy as they tasted garden fresh with just the right amount of very flavourful dressing. Perfect place to go for a pre-concert meal as they are very aware of time restraints to get to the venue and yet we in no way felt rushed. All staff were friendly, welcoming and professional - definitely added to our dining experience! Menu prices are very reasonable. Excellent value for great food. We will definitely be returning and I highly recommend trying homer street cafe and bar for your next meal out. Note: We were there at 5:45 pm on a Tuesday and it was busy! We recommend you make a reservation to ensure a table.

Hi there, I treated my galfriend who's about to be giving birth in a week. I requested for a nice area. She got seated in the private lounge up the steps which was perfect. Everything went very well, the young server was energetic and explained our options clearly. She is a good salesperson and got us ordered an appy. My friend had the leek and potatoes soup and she was pleasantly surprised that it tasted very good (she thought potatoes soup would be boring). Well, I ordered the quail salad with beets, as I had it a few times, this time I just found the portion seemed to have shrunk a bit; there was some mixed green served with it last time I recalled. Not this time. Too bad we spent most of the time chatting and as long lunch was over, we couldn't stay to have desserts, we would love to really. Overall, we were very pleased with everything. Thank you.

I have been to this restaurant 5 times now and each time they never disappoint. Their main menu is great - scallops, beef & their peanut butter cookies so yummy!! Their specials are always so good. i have had 5 different risottos to try and each more delicious. You can't go wrong at this restaurant. The service is always with a smile and great recommendations. Yes I will come back again!!

We enjoyed a chicken lunch with a few sides, 1 beer, 1 glass of wine and a shared dessert. The $100.00 check (including tip) seemed a bit steep. The food was good with the exception of the cake trifle which was much too dry and we didn't finish it. Good service in this bustling, noisy and a bit crowded establishment but overall a good dining experience.

Dinning in the heritage building made the whole cafe feel like we were at someone's home. We sat at the two seats out of nowhere overlooking at the whole open kitchen - watching the game of I-cook-this-and-you-cook-that. For our Sunday brunch we got: 'Maple chicken cobbler with poached eggs' and 'Baked steelhead trout ‘kafteji’, chorizo, fresh herbs, fried egg' with a nice cup of Pekoe tea. Everything was fine except for this. The tricky part about having an open kitchen is that the customer can see when their food is prepared and done. Neglected food was left under the heating lamp while other waiters/waitresses chatted, ironically it wasn't even our waitress which brought the food over. Outcome: hardened cobbler, and dried bacon.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Homer Street Cafe & Bar. Our server, Adam, was knowledgeable, friendly and charming. The food was delicious and it's worth taking your time to enjoy your meal here. Definitely recommend the roast chicken and the maple pork belly snack. We were seated up in the 'Cockpit' and it's a small space so when you're in there with a large group and there's only 2 of you, it can get really noisy so if you want a quiet night, this is not the place as the sound can get a bit cacophonous but energetic and lively. I would suggest to come with a big appetite and try as many things as you can. Meat lovers will enjoy this place.

Excellent meal, great ambiance. Well renovated digs, high ceilings, wonderful tile work, nice detailing. Sat on the patio. Had the pork belly, fish balls to share, and scallops and chicken as our mains. Service was prompt though our server was a low-talker- so had to puzzle out comments occasionally. Pork belly was generous in amount, sweet, tasty. Scallops were fantastic. Significant other liked the chicken, though I think the seared scollops knocked it out of the park. Pricey for us (but good value), so a good place for special occasions/to treat oneself.

Service, atmosphere, price were all great. We sat on the patio which wasn't as noisy as interior spaces, not necessarily our preference. We will likely return and sit at the counter for a more active, vibrant experience. Homer St. like Tableau have reasonably priced entrees and interesting simple menus. There is obvious a focus on doing a smaller number of things very well. I started with the kale salad followed by the steak with peppercorn au jus and winter veggies... nicely done with great flavours. My wife had the braised scallops which were wonderful. A couple bottles of Russian River Pinot Noir made the dinner memorable. We'll certainly return soon and to its sister restaurant Tableau.

The menus at Homer Street Cafe changes seasonally and so it was exciting to welcome the new fall items. I Thoroughly enjoyed the seared scallops with crispy ham atop a luscious squash puree. The new trifle dessert was a nice edition. What could be better - espresso and whisky soaked sponge with rich cream? What has not changed is the great vibe and the friendly staff. This is a very noisy resteraunt . The service was marginal. The waiter kept throwing dirty dishes into the bin 15 feet from us with this huge clatter that was jarring. The famous chicken was over brined. In fact it was no better than the Safeway deli chicken I had the day before.

I had heard so much about the place, we had to try it. They are staffed up to no end, all decked out in suede aprons. Very clean and beautiful multi levelled place. While the chicken was out standing, turns out it had been brined for 4 days. We also had some weird special with pork tenderloins, Kale, peppers and TUNA that was cooked beyond a leather quality. Not quite sure what the chef was communicating there. The Chocolate pudding with malden salt was incredible. Surprisingly not pricy with a cool hipster vibe. They even had their own filtered fizzy water that once you pay $3.50 per person, they bring an endless supply.

First time at Homer Street Cafe, and was very happily surprised by level and quality of service. Heard about the space by word of mouth and finally went with some friends. The hostess and wait staff were outstanding and well polished, with a keen sense for detail.A big surprise for the Vancouver restaurant scene. The space is well decorated with the a fresh menu, apparently changing from week to week. The cocktail list was well put together and our waiter was happy to make suggestions based on our tastes. The pork ribs were juicy and well portioned, sad no chicken and ribs combo, and the coleslaw was a disappointment as it was made with sunflower seeds. The space can be noisy, and the music played did not enhance the dining experience.

HSC can be inconsistent in its guest experience and I guess I caught the place when the tide was out. The service was a real disappointment. My waiter never checked on me after taking my order and I waited for 20 minutes after finishing my meal for dishes to be cleared. It was like I had been forgotten. I has the halibut which was ok, at best. Not a lot of interesting flavours at all in the dish. Perhaps the lentils were the highlight of the plate which is unfortunate. All things considered my dining experience was a disappointment and the value was poor for the price paid. I actually live two blocks away and could frequent the place but won't because of this experience. Maybe I will try them again in a few months at the earliest.

Very busy place. Converted old building. Confusing entrance - walk in the open door only to be told that you have to walk through the restaurant to the new addition to check in and then get brought back to the original location to be seated. Very limited menu - 4 mains and a rotisserie chicken. No specials. Good local wine list. 2 hour limit on dining. When I spend over $300 on a dinner for 3 I expect to stay as long as I want. Food was good and nicely presented - not outstanding or mouth watering. Same sides were provided with the 3 different mains we ordered. Not worth going back.

As this was our first time, it was a pleasure to be greeted promptly and seated without a fuss. The staff was gracious, attentive and there when needed. The food was good. If possible to say it tis way, it was home cooked comfort food, with a flare that can only be imparted by a extremely competent chef. The wine selection was ample, however the beer list was rather short.

While waiting, the floor manager, was not in the least bit interested in my "middle aged presence". Then when I overheard "wine club", I asked if it was something they did. She snapped it was a PRIVATE function like I was some kind of an idiot. Our server tried but the second she left the smile disappeared. She was making every attempt to "be patient". The evening special was a disaster. The sausage medallions were like croutons and the tuna cooked to the point of looking like chicken. Vegetables were delightful but only by comparison. My friend had the pasta and said it was lovely. My husband was there for lunchand had a similar experience. Below par food for the cost and "tude" amongst the servers. Won't be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed each and every dish from appetizers to dessert, and had great, friendly service. The wines we chose by the glass were also quite good. While the food is outstanding the fact that a top end popular restaurant such as this does not have air conditioning nor even a fan where our party of six was sitting is beyond comprehension. All parts of eating out, particularly in a higher end restaurant, should be enjoyable. While the food and service lived up to their reputation, we were actually sweating at our table and had to curtail the evening without desert it was so uncomfortable. This is not how a very good restaurant stays and plateaus, as all parts of the experience should be at the same level.
