Our party of four had a wonderful dining experience. The menu was a welcome change from the standard fare. The service and food were excellent and we look forward to our next visit. The reservation system by OpenTable was also quite convenient and easy to use.

Although the restaurant was nowhere near full, it took quite some time to get our food when others seemed to be served ahead of us. I liked the food, very yummy, and the open kitchen was cool. Just wish it had been faster.

6 of us enjoyed an evening at the Home Tasting Room (HTR) this past Friday night. Small plates to start, an excellent wine list and a space that didn't feel cramped whatsoever. It was a very eclectic mix of customers with some dates, some families and some singles all enjoying a great meal. We would happily return

Though there's a lot of fine restaurant options to choose from downtown & especially on 8th Avenue, this is one of the best dinner dining experiences I've had in a long time. No smugness here, no "we've got the right recipe" that makes all things bland, just genuine culinary art = beautiful, delicious, satisfying ... and staff who seem to care. Four of us, two appies (gotta try to the scallops!), four different entrées, & everyone raved about their choices. Been just once, but we'll go back. (Sorry -- didn't check out the wine list, but I bet it's lovely and fitting, at the very least.)

The food was excellent - we had seared scallops on spaghetti squash as an appie and the mushroom veloutte soup was like velvet. The main entree we both chose was Osso Bucco - delicious all around. Great for trying out different things to share....

I always love to come back, everything tastes amazing, the service is good and one of the few places to sit outside. We tried the veal, the salmon and the lamb, all good and the desert (ice cream, sorbet and hazelnut mousse) were to die for. I will come back.

  • Interesting Place on 8th Avenue
    Grums
    Dined on 8/9/2014
The menu is short but interesting sections and daily special. There is an open kitchen and they worked very well together. The room is long with exposed old brick on the walls with very nice seating. The wine list is short considering they bill as a wine tasting type of restaurant and the sharing plate selection was also small. I'd have like to see several more choices in both areas. The food was good and well presented. The bison tartar was interesting but the toasted bread along with it needs to be warm before applying butter. The oysters were interesting as was the mushroom soup. The braised short ribs with scallops was confusing. Overall a nice place and location. Would be excellent for a business luncheon or before theater stop.

The dishes are pretty pricy for the portion that you are getting. $15+ for an appetizer and over $35+ for the main course. Plus the place have no booster seat or high chair. Not recommended, you can have a better food elsewhere for the price you paid.

Our server was great and very accomadating. The cook came out and described each dish which was a nice touch. I will definitely be visiting Home Tasting room again!!

My friend doesn't get downtown much - lives and works in the burbs, so when she comes downtown, I try to expose her to a variety of places. Her first time at Home Tasting Room - she was impressed. Great food, excellent friendly service, not too noisy this time - maybe 'cause it was a Monday in the summer. Thanks for a great lunch date!

My friends and I had a lovely experience at Home Tasting Room. We received a quiet table when we asked for one, and they even turned down the music, a bonus since one of our party is hard of hearing. The food was very tasty, especially the scallops. My only cavil would be the waiter's cologne, which wasn't an appetizing part of the evening. I would visit the restaurant again.

Have been at the Home Tasting Room previously, so thought this would be a good place to take my friend to celebrate her recent graduation from college. Was it ever a great choice! We had decided to have an evening of the tasting plates where we could share dishes. The food was heavenly... the wine was great (our server brought around a couple of reds to try when we didn't like one that had been suggested). The service was perfect. Our server was super friendly, chatting enough to add a nice personal touch to our experience while ensuring that interruptions were minimum so we could visit. He was knowledgeable of the menu and offered some great suggestions. I'd definitely return here we really enjoyed ourselves. A great evening!

The food at Home Tasting Room was decent, but nowhere near the level of execution that I expect for that price. My mother and I went for an impromptu early lunch, and of the three dishes we had, only one was done well. The bison tartar was delicious, if a bit small for the price. The gnocchi went nicely with the saskatoon berry and goat cheese, but it was much too dense, and over-salted. And the Mac & Cheese, well, it's hard to go wrong with gruyere, pea and prosciutto, but it was very watery. For dessert, my hazelnut mousse was tasty, but just one-note, endless richness - it needed something sour or savory to balance out. My mom's peanut butter s'more was cold, and so dense she was afraid she'd crack the plate. Probably won't be going back

Don't miss it...subtle frontage on this resto and you might just walk by this wonderful lunch spot. Food is fresh and delicious, and I highly recommend the specials. An open kitchen adds to the great open concept of the room. Wine flights make for a nice addition as well. Well priced and better food than some of the showier spots across the street.

Everything that was served to us from the wonderful soups to the chocolate dessert was delicious and inventive. The tapas style entrees were great to try different dishes. The restaurant has an open kitchen, a feature which always instills trust in the cooking. Modern and pleasing interior architecture adds to the experience. This is a place you don't want to miss when you're in Calgary! It is right in the center of town, so you can hop from bar to bar and enjoy the vibrant night life after dinner. Hats off to young chef Daniel Pizarro for creating this great place!

The food at Home is delicious and it is familiar but not at all ordinary. The menu changed since we were last there - a little lighter for summer but with the favourites still on the menu. I have never had a bad experience or meal at Home Tasting Room! This last visit they seemed to be short-staffed and our waitress was a little run off her feet. However this didn't take away from the great food and comfortable atmosphere (tables aren't butted up right next to each other).
