Loved the room and the service was good. I started with the feature soup (pea/potato) and it was nothing special. The chicken with carrot puree and fava was quite good, moist and flavourful. For dessert I had the lemon tart- the crust was rock-hard and flavourless. The filling was nice and tart. The meringue was hard and dry, like a meringue cookie. (My companion had the pistachio mousse, which was very nice.) The coffee was not very good. Overall, not an outstanding food experience.

We've been to Home Tasting Room a number of times since it first opened. We have never been disappointed and this time was no exception. The white sturgeon special was superb, the starters and desserts really delicious and the viognier wine was perfect with the fish. Our server Lincoln made the whole dinner experience top-notch. He is friendly, knowledgeable and personable and has a perfect sense of timing (in terms of the pace he gave to our dinner experience) and an engaging personality.

Food is excellent - would highly recommend. The special was excellent but when we asked for another order we were told that they were sold out - at 6:45 pm. Our server was very please & we asked for to be accommodated with a 6:00 pm reservation for the theatre at 8:00 pm. We ordered an extra appy which took forever. Dessert was slow & tea never arrived in time to be drunk. The server volunteered to waive the charge for the late app & the dessert which was very considerate. It is nice to be able to eat on the patio but there is no atmosphere except the activity & noise on Stephen Ave.

I've been to the Home Tasting Room three times now, and each time has been fantastic - the menus change for seasons and time of day, with lots of options for difference tastes and I've never been disappointed with my choices! You would think the open atmosphere would make it noisy, but somehow they have managed to combine openness with intimacy. This time there were only 3 of us, my last two visits were part of a group and the service is great, no matter the size of party, the servers are knowledgeable on the selections and offer recommendations for food as well as beverage accompaniment to the food. I really like it and know I'll be back as well as recommend it to others!

We loved the fact that we could share dishes and therefore have the opportunity to try different foods. We ordered four dishes, antipasto plate, scallops, goat cheese & mushroom spread with home made chips, artichoke salad with pickled vegetables. All pickles are made on the premises. For desert we ordered the lemon tart which was perfectly tart & sweet at the same time. We also ordered s'mores a la Home Tasting Room which was delicious. The ambiance was lively and the service was prompt which we appreciated as we were off to a concert after dinner.

Had the pulled pork for the first time and it was as good as everything else I've tasted at the Home Tasting Room. The brioche bun was suitably crisp and held together well; the pork was tender and flavourful and just saucy enough (didn't have to shower afterwards!) and the soup was seasoned perfectly. Portion size was realistic - served on a plate rather than in a trough. Thank you Chef.

The star of the evening was the food. The menu had something on it for everyone, and every dish was a beautiful combination of flavours. The staff was extremely friendly, and very helpful in recommending wine pairings. Many of the wines are offered in 2.5oz options allowing you to pair accordingly if you choose to experience the tasting plates. A wonderful experience overall, and we look forward to returning.

We went to Home Tasting Room for a birthday and were quite disappointed with the food that evening. A couple of us had the ravioli, Arctic Char and Duck breast. The Ravioli lacked texture in the filling, which seemed so runny, it just escaped out of the very thin wrapper. The dish lacked flavor and was insufficient as an entree. The duck was very literal when they say it has an orange sauce. All you could taste was the tartness of the orange juice which was overwhelming. The sweet potatoes were underdone and the plating unexciting. The duck was slightly overdone but the best part of the dish. The birthday girl who selected the restaurant did however enjoy her Arctic Char. We ended up going elsewhere for dessert.

I went with 4 folks from work at 12:30. We were able to get a reservation on the same day so that was nice. We were all happy with the food and want to go back. We chose each to have entrees but it would be an option to share a number of tasting plates. Service was too slow for lunch service during the work day. It's like there weren't enough servers on staff...

The food, service, and experience at Home is consistently excellent, and I count in among my favourite restaurants in the city. I love that they change their menu seasonally, and always have different nightly specials for you to try. I had the sous vide lamb saddle, and it was delicious. The lamb was incredibly tender, and even my friend who does not usually enjoy lamb stole a bite. I am just disappointed that we did not have time for dessert, because the homemade s'more with peanut butter is also amazing. I can't wait for the spring menu to come out!

This was our first trip to Home Tasting Room, and we can't wait to go back. Loved the decor, and really appreciated that the tables weren't jammed together. Our server was knowledgeable and very attentive. The food was outstanding. The apple and celery root soup was delicious. My husband had a burger from the feature menu, which he felt should be on the menu all of the time. The mac and cheese with peas and proscuitto was creamy and wonderful. We also tried the feature dessert, an incredibly light chocolate mousse with sponge toffee. Looking forward to a return visit to try more things on the menu.

I found the Home Tasting Room a very pleasurable experience. A friend and I dined before the theatre. She had Arctic Char and I had Duck L'Orange. Both were very tasty. We also had the pavlova, which was fine, but not something I would order again, mainly as the meringue was not the traditional crust style, but came in small buttons, which were hard. The portions are not large, but we both felt satisfied with our two courses. Dinner with tip cost about $70 each.

Food was well presented and delicious for example:innovative use of baby turnips cooked in beet water making them a pale rose colour. We had the 5 course tasting so hard to comment on the portion size but the menu had a variety of sharing and mains, many of which I would choose. Generally service was fine for Calgary, friendly but not overly knowledgeable. overall rating 4/5 ( I would go again) My dinner companion did comment that "all the restaurants are starting to look a bit alike" meaning muted tones, open kitchen, exposed brick wall….

I've been to Home Tasting Room many times and have always been happy with the service and the food quality. I took a friend there who needed gluten free choices and choose to have a burger with the recommended gluten free bun. The gluten free bun was horrific, it fell completely apart and became pretty much inedible. When the waitress came by to take our plates, it was impossible not to notice the giant pile of crumbs that once was a bun, but did not even ask what happened. We were in a rush and didn't have time to complain about it, but we were more than disappointed with the bun itself then the failure of the staff to notice the damage. Home, please revisit your gluten free buns and either offer something better or nothing at all!

This is my second time at Home Tasting Room, and both times we've asked to sit at the bar where we could watch the chefs in action, and sometimes harass them with questions, which they always gracefully answered. My favourites from both experiences were the gnocchi, scallops and the beef bourguignon plates. The service was great, but I would've liked the plates to come a little quicker. I know (and overheard) a lot of attention going into how the timing, but there were moments where we got a little impatient. Overall, I enjoyed HOME and will definitely return.

Nothing but great things about this place - great wine list, service, atmosphere and food. Loved the tartar starter and the dessert, and not often where you can get a (delicious) old vine zinf by the glass. There isn't a ton of natural light given the location on Stephen Ave but they've made the setting wonderful, bright and warm nonetheless. Music is great, folky and at the right volume, room was not overly busy, food is fresh and server made great recommendations. A reminder that I really don't come here as often as I should!

The ambiance at HTR is nice- the decor is simple, lighting is good, the open kitchen is fun to watch, and you can actually hear the people you are talking to, which for me is a huge plus! The food here is decent, but it is not fantastic. I have yet to be wowed by either the flavours or preparation, although the presentation of the food is very nicely done. A bit more seasoning and use of spices in the food would go a long way in elevating the flavours. The portions for some dishes are definitely on the small side. If I didn't order an appetizer, main and dessert each time, I would come away hungry. Overall it is fine for a night out, just don't expect to be wowed if you are a foodie.
