A word from Home 231
Home 231 creates a comfortable yet stylish restaurant that offers contemporary home-style cuisine, service and atmosphere. Our chef has created a menu that utilizes local products, ranging from meats and poultry, to farm fresh eggs and seasonal produce. Our food is described as simple and approachable American food with a modern touch. Join us indoors or outdoors on our courtyard and allow our servers to create a dining experience you will remember.

Our outside patio is booked on a first come first serve basis. Making a reservation for the courtyard does not guarantee the courtyard seating, but we do our very best to accommodate all requests. Private parties in the courtyard will move all requests for outside to our indoor dining room.

Diner Reviews
  • "An enjoyable find filled with great food, happy staff and a terrific selection of menu items. From appetizer to dessert it was a flawless and reasonably priced evening. Home 231 could play with any of the "big boys" in any large city, but then it wouldn't be a hidden treasure."

  • "We were quite pleased with the original menu options here, and of course the fresh ingredients. My only complaint is that I ordered the ice cream for dessert, and the portion size was 1 scoop the size of a melon-baller. That was certainly not worth the price."

  • "I love dining out and trying new restaurants. This was my first experience here at Home 231 and I loved every minute of it. The serving staff were so attentive and the food was excellent! The special for the evening was a pork loin served over a bed of whipped potatoes and asparagus tips, topped with dates. I highly recommend. Although it was a little pricey, I thought the experience was well worth it."

  • "Really enjoy this restaurant, the dishes are creative and delicious, ingredients are top quality, and the mix drink and wine list is perfect. This is my new favorite restaurant in Harrisburg. All around awesome."

  • "We went for brunch and were seated at a booth. When you walk in there is a bar with TVs but that was no problem at all. The waiter came quickly and then served a cucumber flavored water and fresh orange juice--both excellent. My son had the Hanger Steak and Eggs--his favorite and always superb. We also had pancakes and the huevos rancheros (I think that was the name)--both yummy--no sharing that day--too wonderful to share. Missed dessert because we were full-which was fine. Restaurant is a bit cozy, so don't go if you are very claustrophobic, but it was perfect for us and the coziness made it all the better."

  • "Home, is by far, the best place for brunch in Harrisburg!"

  • "I had a wonderful table at the window with flowers on the table. There was plenty of room to sit and stretch out a bit. The food was delicious. The freshly squeezed orange juice was wonderful! Overall, a great experience1"

  • "Farm to table concept - local produce interesting combinations, Beet salad was particularly good."

  • "This is my second time at Home231, and the food is delicious. I had the crab benedict, which was my first time gavin any sort of eggs benedict dish; I absolutely loved it. The hash browns that come with this dish were the perfect compliment to the crab benedict. My friend ordered the seasonal pancakes, which were a bananas foster pancake. One word: HEAVEN."

  • "Perfect choice for a nice breakfast or brunch. We had poached eggs with sides. Delicious coffee. Their cucumber drink is very good - but be sure to ask for less ice, especially in the wintertime."

  • "Always great food, interesting food, and a nice ambiance. The chef works to make the offerings current and creative. The bar is a bit too crowded as currently situated and a half a decibel too loud for my taste, but once you squeeze through the bar to the dining area we had a relaxed and enjoyable evening"

  • "I went to this restaurant for dinner with a business client. He had the crab cakes, I had the braised short ribs. We shared the cornbread. Everything was melt in your mouth delicious! The seasonings were perfect and the flavors blended together exploding like a symphony when tasted. Very New York neighborhood type of scene. Could not ask for better more unobtrusive service."

  • "We had booked to eat here sometime before. We arrived in plenty of time for our booking, with only one other couple waiting, but they were obviously known to the girl on the desk. Anyway they were shown to a nice table in the main restaurant, and we then had to wait past our scheduled time. Eventually we were shown to what must be the worst table in the place, next to the kitchen's revolving door...so much for booking well in advance. We decided to take the minimalist route and just have a main and leave. The food itself was good with tasty short rib and fish of the day, but by then our evening had been spoiled to some extent. On food I would recommend it to you, but the front of house certainly need a shake up, for me ever to return."

  • "The menu items have an distinctive spin on the usual fair… crab eggs Benedict, stuffed french toast. I have tried many of the dishes on the menu, and all have been equally delicious!"

  • ". The salad of the day was terrific; it's blend of veges, smoked bacon and dried fruits was fantastic. The pie rogues with chorizo were also very good. My wife had the Asian influenced swordfish in a curry broth. It was so good that she asked for a spoon so she didn't miss a drop. I had the hanger steak, fries and cauliflower with cheddar cheese. The steak was a perfect medium rare with great flavor. The accompaniments were also very good. The corn ice cream and pear/line/rosemary sorbet were very inventive and delicious. Our only concern was the level of noise. It's a small place yet it sounded as though there were hundreds. We could barely hear each other."

  • "I personally enjoyed my roasted beet salad although there wasn't much goat cheese or walnuts.. There was a lot of ice in my sparkler drink and had no color or taste to it. Everyone else found it hard to find something to order and when they finally did order no one liked their meals. They were annoyed by the portion size considering the price that was being paid. I was mortified because I had a bday dinner there and thought the food was fabulous and now when a friend said they had never gone there and wanted to I made a group dinner date and felt bad that everyone spent about 70 dollars on dinner and drinks to leave hungry and to not have enjoyed themselves at all. There was no music so there was no atmosphere and tables are kind of cramped."

  • "We have always loved Home 231 and never been disappointed. It's been a great place to meet with business associates, social groups, and loved ones. There is never any pressure from staff and they always provide information when asked. Have a great time!"

  • "I found the entrees to be pricey, sandwiches were decently priced. Food was tasty."

  • "Very nice menu...Slightly pricey but the quality of ingredients definitely shows why... Impeccably trained servers for such a small establishment. Always excited to try something new here! Love the random combinations of flavors..."

  • "My husband and I have dined here many times. We have had delicious food for brunch, lunch and dinner. The atmosphere, food and overall dining experience fits the price you pay. When you see the same waite staff every time you dine, tells us that you will most definitely have great service from the Chef to the Server."

  • "Food was good not great. I don't mind paying for great food, but food was just OK. I could have enjoyed a chain restaurant and got better steak and crab cakes at a cheaper price"

  • "A place we frequently go to that never dissapoints. Went early on Valentines evening and beat the crowds. They were booked full not surprisingly. This place is a gem!"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The entrees and soups were both imaginative and very delicious. They cost what I would expect to pay at a better dining site; no problem. I was disappointed that a nice bread was not included with our meals. Instead, we could order foccacia or corn bread as an extra. Four small portions of foccacia cost $10. Also, the prices for alcohol were excessive. A 12 ounce bottle of Troeg's beer costs about $1.45. The restaurant charges $6 bucks for that same beer! I do really like the place and the food but have a hard time stomaching some of the prices. I left after my meal feeling that I had spent too much money..... Great food but the overall experience is overpriced."

  • "We had a great evening - parking can be a challenge so our earlier (6pm) dinner reservation took care of that. Service was excellent, as was the food. Wine/Beer choices not super plentiful, but what was available was great quality. Can't wait to go back."

  • "I love this Harrisburg gem! The bunch is wonderful - great food and drinks. I would highly recommend making a reservation, as it is a smaller location and they get full quickly on a Sunday. I also like that parking is easy (street parking). Definitely get the country fried chicken for brunch. It is out of this world!"

  • "We had a delightful late evening meal of home cooked cuisine that was NOT home-style. The chef was very imaginative in spicing up and presenting side vegetables, while making flavorful entrees that surprised the palate!!l The bar specialties tweaked classic cocktails with an added fruit spice that added a marvelous fashionable change to classics! We'll be back to this downtown Harrisburg surprise and have already told our friends!"

  • "Had a wonderful experience from a special romantic table per my Open table request, excellent service from the staff and a caring check by the owner/manager -- not to mention the fun menu and superb preparation of each item. The people that work here genuinely care about what they do and it shows."

  • "Always unsure when going to a new place. This was a gem. I'm fairly critical having been in many establishments around the globe and this was a very pleasant local surprise. Food was very good. Customer service was refreshingly wonderful. Bar and wine selection was good. Dessert selection was fun and delicious. One of the best dining experiences in the Harrisburg area in my opinion. Would highly recommend you try it."

  • "Arrived at the restaurant a little ahead of the reservation so we had a beverage at the bar. The bartender had a great personality so we decided on dinner at the bar. The soup of the day was a nice savory Chicken w/tomato and kale. We also had the cheese platter which was extremely tasty and pleasantly presented. The final course was the chicken dinner which we split. The dinner was nicely prsented and they split the portion for us. It was delightful :)"
