Home 231incredible foodHad the cheese platter, berry salad, asparagus salad, steak, and donuts. Every plate was amazing. Husband said the asparagus salad was the best salad he has ever had...and he loves his salads.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is outstanding. We'veFood is outstanding. We've been there before and always very happy with the quality. However, our one complaint on this occasion was we requested outside dining, were informed that it would be a 25 minute wait and noticed a party of 4 that arrived after us was seated first. Now we didn't have a wait of more than a few minutes and wondered why the other party of 4 could be seated at virtually the same time. Just a little glitch in their scheduling process that should be addressed.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this restaurantThis is our 3rd time at Home 231 and our first for dinner. The food was amazing. We enjoyed a delightful table on the back patio. Our waiter was friendly and timed the meal arrival perfectly. We come from out of town and we just can't stop coming back to Home 231.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst Time at Home 231Had a great first visit to Home 231. A friend and I had made reservations the night before and were promptly seated. The wait staff was very attentive and all our food was served quickly with good timing. The food itself was excellent and I loved how often the word local was used!
My only negative is that as more people came it it tended to get very loud and slightly difficult to have a conversation without raising your voice somewhat.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMNice Little GemHad a wonderful meal here with family this past weekend. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The food is excellent - or as a friend described it "superb"! Waiter was very good and service excellent - not rushed but no long waits between courses.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic! My husband and I went on a weeknight. We chose this restaurant based on a recommendation from a friend. Our meal was excellent. There was not one thing I would change. Our server was also excellent. She was very friendly and very responsive. I would recommend to anyone!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Experiences! My wife and I have been to Home 231 three times now, and every experience has been resoundingly positive. Service staff is unintrusive, knowledgeable and timely, and the food is excellent. Beer selection is decent and fairly priced, and the cocktails have been refreshing and well made. In good weather, try the outdoor patio. For brunch, we especially loved the eggs and crab benedict; both wonderful, with fresh-made english muffins, local eggs and perfect asparagus. At dinner, the lamb sausage was a bit on the dry side, but well spiced and matched. The free-range chicken with PA mushrooms was juicy and delicious, and the portabello sandwich was a well rounded and tasty vegetarian option. So far, every visit's been excellent. We'll be back!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent brunch, gaining identityExcellent brucnh -- have been here several times and have had mixed feelings. Sometimes it feels over-priced and like it's trying too hard; recently, though, it seems to be understanding its place and identity. The food is always excellent, regardless of the price, and the decor and ambience are slowly improving to match the food. Service is good, but generally very slow.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Neighborhood FindHome 231 was a great little cozy and friendly place with great food, excellent Bloody Mary's and incredibly friendly staff. We stopped here on way to Gettysburg from NJ. Highly recommend Home 231.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMService was a little slowService was a little slow but good. I was not very crowded and the waiter took a long time to initially come to the table, took our order and then never came back until the food was delivered. The meal was terrific and this was my second visit to Home 231 and would definetely return6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMDine with your conscienceLocal fresh foods are brought in daily to produce mouth watering delicacies that will not leave you feeling the weight of your carbon footprint when you leave the door. Off street parking was the first full winning point for the establishment. Then, the time from entrance to exit was around one hour. The drinks were infused with local flavorings in season for a varied drink menu. The seafood offered was sustainable fish and never frozen/flash frozen. The flavors were varied and subtle. You wanted to find each described from the menu as you tasted your meal. Our waiter was polite without being overwhelmingly so. The atmosphere was home like with dim overhead bulbs depending on the natural lighting outside to illuminate the tables.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Graduation Dinner...A Gem of a find. Our dinner wasso special each meal was so fresh and delicious, service great, only down fall sooo noisey cant hear each other and too bright, will not stop us from returning again and again.DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT HAVING HOMEMADE DONUTS!!!!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh, local and delicious. It's great to see that the farm to table experience has come to Harrisburg. Food was great, service was incredibly attentive. One of our orders was not prepared as requested, a replacement was delivered within 2-3 minutes with multiple follow ups to be be sure we were satisfied. Will be back soon for dinner!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good!First time for dinner at Home 231. Loved the freshness & unique preparation of things- from the cocktails to dessert. My only disappointment was they had run out of the "sustainable fish" by 6:30, but ordered the trout on the menu. We will return, even just to try more apps & drinks!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMStill dreaming about the food...Started w/ KY Lemonade/Pomegranate Spritzer, Special du jour: Arugula salad w/ prosciutto, watermelon, honey dew, & cantaloupe, w/pine nuts...and some vinaigrette dressing. Splendid! So refreshing and mouth-watering! Next- deviled egg trio to complement and enjoyed the freshness. I would have loved some sugar-cured bacon on 1. Main- trout w/ fresh veggies, Grandma had the short rib. I didn't eat the crispy fish skin (which I know some pple enjoy) bc it's not my thing. Gma/I finished w/crumbed peach pie. They were out of the vanilla ice cream, so we got to choose from Apricot/Honey or Chocolate Chip. Had the Apricot Honey and was in heaven. The peach pie was delicious, however served cold. Coffee! Worth Every penny. #freshfoodheaven5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMTOP NOTCH ACROSS THE BOARD!My wife and I were seated in a cozy booth not far from the kitchen. We were greeted by our server Matt. He was very pleasant and explained the evenings special and the new dinner menu flawlessyly. We explained to him that we would like the chef to make "whatever he would like" for us. Chef Matt accepted the challenge and away we went! We enjoyed 6 full courses, some of which were new menu items, and some courses were special features Chef Matt made special for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and were pleasantly suprised by our check total even with a few beers and a bottle of wine. Service was spot on. I cannot wait to return to Home 231. Maybe next time we will try the Sunday brunch we have heard so many great things about it.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing FoodThe food is terrific! I enjoyed eating outside on their patio5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNew to town, and very pleased!I was in Harrisburg for an overnight visit. I wanted a place that was something other than a big chain restaurant. I found Home 231 on Open Table and strolled over a few blocks, to a historic neighborhood, where it is tucked unassumingly into two town houses. I was dining alone, but the manager greeted me warmly and seated me at a booth. Within moments, the waiter stopped by, took my drink order, and returned with the menu. This waiter pointed out that Home 231 focuses on local foods and home made products, and the simple field greens salad was full of house-cured bacon -- exceptional. I order steak frites for dinner and blueberry pie for dessert. Everything was great and I would recommend this to anyone visiting Harrisburg.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMTook in the Sunday brunchTook in the Sunday brunch for a birthday celebration. Food was great, server attentive and overall experience was positive.
Looking forward to my next visit and hopefully the weather will be warmer so the outdoor dining area can be used.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMTables very close together.Tables very close together. Quality and seasonings were outstanding, achieving subtle layers of flavor, without ever being overdone or overpowering. Wonderfully different takes on old standards.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThis cozy eatery has an urbanThis cozy eatery has an urban yet warm and friendly vibe. While waiting for my friends, I had a glass of wine at the bar and was welcomed by the bartender. We dined in the main room, which we found somewhat noisy. Our waitress was excellent: she served us quickly and professionally and cheerfully answered our (many) questions. The only downside of the service was when the runner delivered our meals and asked who-go-what. We all enjoyed our meals, however, I was not feeling well so food in general did not appeal that evening. That said, my hangar steak was cooked perfectly, and the fries with the truffle aioli(sp?)rocked. In all, a lovely evening and dining experience! Parking lot half a block away is great.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was good, and theThe food was good, and the service was excellent. Very thoughtful and considerate waitstaff and management. The pumpkin pie martini was a surprise treat! Our server was exceptional - friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. Our food was divine. The serving size was plentiful without feeling indulgent. Great quality for the money, which we found reasonable. We cannot wait to go back and bring our friends and family! While the bar and waiting area was crowded, the bar area was attractive and I would go in just for drinks and apps. The food was excellent and we will likely return, however, I would suggest using photos that accurately depict patron dress and the informality of the restaurant.
Finally, while the menu prices are consistent with your advertises appearance and ambience expected in a restaurant patroned by customers wearing business casual, those prices were significantly high for a Sunday brunch and the interior quality one would expect in a more formal se3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Food!
