A word from Hom
Hōm, celebrates simple farm-to-table cuisine and the growers and producers in our community who share the same passion for pairing locally farmed ingredients with dramatic flavors.
From bright and crispy to smoky and earthy, the tastes at Hōm draw inspiration from Wisconsin farmers markets, small growers, ranchers and local fishermen. In addition, the unique partnership between SURG Restaurant Group’s own Mike Polaski and his Hidden Creek Farms, located in New London, WI, is one more way Hōm can assure its diners the highest quality beef, pork and produce from pasture to presentation. “Locavores,” i.e. Wisconsin home-grown enthusiasts, micro-brew aficionados and anyone willing to catch a bit of Wisconsin sports fever for the evening are invited for a real, honest meal with a touch of elegance, in true SURG tradition. Welcome to Wisconsin. Welcome Hōm.

Diner Reviews
  • "We loved the restaurant and its fantastic food. There were 4 of us and each had a different dish; the pasta special of day was wonderful as was the ribs, beef rib and steak. We thought the prices were reasonable. We liked the idea that the food was made fresh at the restaurant (farm to table)."

  • "My husband and I took our three daughters to Hom for our family business anniversary celebration. The atmosphere is rustic and comforting. All five of us enjoyed our main entrees, especially my 11 year old and my husband who selected the BBQ ribs. There were enough ribs to take home, but the other portions were very appropriate to a single serving. You need a fine balance between enough food and too much! They achieved that. The desserts were delicious. We ordered a peach sorbet, a brownie sundae, cheesecake and salted caramel ice cream. Again, the portions were just right and the taste was worth every calorie. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. I have already told two of my friends to put Hom on their dining list!"

  • "Four of us ate with varied main courses; steak and venison were great choices and included sides. The steak would give some of the local steak houses a run for their money! The winelist was well priced, we thought $30 was good value. Dishes were all flavorsome and good quality without being over the top in terms of quantity. Desserts were of high quality, and shareable... again not over the top in terms of size. Perfect place for families, colleagues, business meals!"

  • "Server must have been new as he seemed nervous. Very attentive however. Food was very good."

  • "The Friday fish fry was very good -the cod was beer-battered and served hot and crisp. I only wish they had cole slaw and rye bread. My wife raved about the salmon entrée, and that's significant because she orders salmon frequently and this was among the best she's had. Our waiter was most attentive."

  • "Had the beef short rib. It was melt in your mouth delicious! Fall off the bone fabulous!"

  • "We had the gnocchi appetizer, the shrimp and grits and the scallops appetizer and they were all beyond phenomenal. For entrees we had the 8oz filet and monk fish. Probably the best steak I've ever had with creamy potatoes and even the beet slaw was delicous. And the monk fish came with carmalized sweet potatoes that my husband has requested I learn how to make. Although I wouldn't call this restaurants kid (young kids) friendly, my daughters meal was just as tasty as ours--she had chicken tenders and fries. The house salad was even amazing, and it's not often you get excited about a salad. We also caught a glimpse of the cheese plate and that would have been a lovely snack with some drinks. Service was great too."

  • "We walked in and were told there was a 45 min wait for a table for two. Jumped on OpenTable, made a reservation for 45 mins. Left and came back; were seated immediately. That worked well. The service overall was average to slow. The waitress was very nice. In fact, cloyingly sweet. We asked for the appetizer to come with the salads. The salads were good but way overly dressed. The Pierogi were doughy and had no apple jam. Th duck confit salad had too much duck on it; almost like an entree portion. The beet salad was sadly not a "beet salad" but a bunch of mixed greens with 5 moderate sized beet chunks. The candied pecans were chopped up instead of whole. The ribs arrived cold, sent back, and were very good hot. The chicken entree was good."

  • "The design/decor of the restaurant fits the farm to table theme perfectly. It is elegant and rustic at the same time. The servers take care of the guests extremely well. The menu is perfect for the area and everything is well executed and delicious!"

  • "Milwaukee mule and the wisco were good drinks. Curious about how it was going to be after the switch. Seems the same and we like the farm to table idea. Only strange sides is my only complaint."

  • "We had a group of 12 for dinner and it was wonderful! The service was great and the food was fantastic! I highly recommend trying this gem of a restaurant!"

  • "It was our first time out together in a long time. What we thought would be another over priced overrated restaurant turned out to be our most fulfilling meal and romantic date in Milwaukee in ten years! Thank you for the great food and wonderful service. we will definitely be coming back Hom again."

  • "I have dined here several times before, and the food has been excellent. Our server last time was more attentive, but service was not awful, just a bit slow. I love the farm-to-table efforts made by the company, which is one of the reasons I continue to dine at Hom. I enjoyed the almond encrusted trout- very fresh and the skin was crispy, not soggy. The classic beet and goat cheese salad was also fresh and delicious. My husband loved the bone-in short rib as well. My mom opted for the fish fry, and although the fish was delicious, her potato pancakes were bland and mushy on the inside, and slightly burnt on the outside. Other than that, the food was up to par. I"

  • "We were seated right away. That's great but sat there waiting. When a waitress did come, she said she had to put the menus she had down, and would be right back. Well she wasn't. When she did finally show up, she took OUR FOOD AND DRINK ORDER. The food came before the drinks. Another couple who was seated after use had already gotten their drinks. We flagged down a manager, he HAD TO GET OUR DRINKS. He did buy us that round and deserts. The restaurant was not busy, it was a Friday night. No excuse for the poor service. We thought we would it Hom out. We will not be back."

  • "My husband and I were surprised how wonderful the food was! They obviously pride themselves on using local, high-quality ingredients and take the time to make sure everything is perfect. Vibrant flavors! Interesting and different side dishes. Friendly and helpful staff. Can't wait to return!"

  • "Early dinner with four; excellent service; adjustable ordering (adding subtracting ingredients); carnivores and vegetarians together. We ordered a cheese selection for openers and were so totally satisfied and pleased. Excellent service all around. The place was really full on a Monday night as we were leaving. I would (and will) go back repeatedly."

  • "When first booking this dinner date I looked at the menu and it appeared to be an upscale dining menu anew as very excited. The food did not disappoint . It was excellent in both presentation, taste, and price. My issue however is that I almost never even made it in the restaurant to try the food. The restaurant is located in a strip mall next to miss poles studio. The east wall of the building is literally falling off and there is a large banner that says kids eat free on Sunday. I almost left right there because this is not at all what I pictured reading the menu. Inside there were young children everywhere and my girlfriend told me it reminded her of Texas Roadhouse. This place seems stuck between upscale and family style restaurant."

  • "My husband and I dined at Hom on a busy Saturday night with our 14 month old son. The decor of the restaurant didn't scream "kid friendly" to us but it turned out to be great for all of us! Service was quick and accurate and our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu. The bacon cornbread served first was excellent. We ordered a charcuterie plate, entrees, a shared side, and a kids mac and cheese (kids meals are free on weekends)! While we enjoyed our charcuterie, the mac and cheese arrived for our son. The manager came by twice, first to ask how our son was enjoying the mac and then to ask how our entrees were. The food was delicious and we felt very welcome. Overall we would recommend this restaurant and will dine again."

  • "The acoustics were terrible. Very noisy. Enjoyed the food and the concept of the restaurant. Would go again but at a later time after the kids have left."

  • "There was a misunderstanding as to the way we were ordering. Had Friday night fish. It was very marginal The so called potato pancake was an inch or an inch and a half thick and only lukewarm. When the waitress asked how everything was, we were nearly finished. She said she would bring hot potato pancakes which she did, but we were done with the fish. To begin, my French Onion Soup was only lukewarm and a very small serving."

  • "Dined with another couple. Prior to dinner we had a cocktail in the bar area which is large and nicely done. We all shared a Wisconsin cheese and charcuterie plate which was excellent. Two of us had the pork chop and two had the pasta special. The local farm to table shined through in both dishes. Can't forget to mention the homemade corn bread served - outstanding. Many people say they have not tried Hom as the restaurant has changed hands "frequently". I assure anyone this is a spot worth checking out - you won't be disappointed."

  • "I dined her with my boyfriend for a nice dinner out. The service was outstanding, my glass never went past half full, and we always had what we needed. For and appetizer we had a mac and cheese risotto. This was delicious and we could not wait to taste our entrees. But when we got them, they were bad. The chicken was so salty that I could not eat it, and the fish fry was mostly breading. I would not recommend this place for a fancy night out, more for a causal date."

  • "Our experience was fantastic. The server was friendly and knowledgeable. He just seemed a little nervous but he could have been new. The steak melted in your mouth and the pork chop was seasoned with just the right amount of spices. The whole grain mustard mixed in the spatzle and on top of the pork chop really brought the whole meal together. Plus it was lovely to eat in a restaurant that isn't trying to shove you out the door for the next people to come in. The meal was served at just the right pace. We shared the cheesecake (our favorite dessert) and it was everything cheesecake is meant to be....just the right amount of cherries and pistachios on it so that you really still taste the cheesecake. Overall a delightful experience."

  • "The dining experience my group had was top notch. The service was amazing, the food even better and the local, fresh ingredients make for one of the best local restaurants in the Milwaukee area. Omar and the Surge Restaurant Group have found the proper balance of quality, friendliness and affordability."

  • "Delicious special of tenderloin medallions preceded with a broccoli cheese soup followed by cheesecake. The ribs and coleslaw with homemade fries were fabulous. Great Wisconsin beers in bottles and some on tap too."

  • "Bar staff was solid. Wait staff was real good. Food was good. My wife ordered a stake medium and got well done. I ordered a medium rare and it was correctly cooked. Apps. Were good. Lobster tail was too salty for my taste. Bread pudding for dessert was ehhhh...Overall good experience, just didn't blow us away. We must also be the only 2 people in Wisconsin who think Nueske's bacon is so over rated."

  • "Brought my fiancee here for valentines day. Ordered duck with celery root puree & sirlion steak with risoto. Also ordered a side of roasted beets & potato gratin. Flavor and preparation was great except the steak came with brusselsprouts, which were under cooked, really too bad because it was the one thing I was really looking forward to. we were seated near the bar, the tv's and bar noise were HORRIBLE! Not welcome for us."

  • "This is the second time I've dined at Hom. This restaurant is hard to describe because it's a weird mix of casual and fine dining. I think it's fine dining because of the food they serve, the prices of their food, and the way their wait staff is trained to serve you. I think it's casual dining because they were playing a soundtrack of 90s music all night, nearly every other couple was in jeans and sweatshirts, and the tables were very close together, which did not make for a romantic evening on Valentine's Day. The food itself is not bad. Some of it is really rich in flavor and some of it is pretty average. It's hard to tell what you'll get. The restaurant's concept is pretty neat though - all Wisconsin products."

  • "Ok we went there for Valentine's Day. The food was wonderfully prepared with great attention to detail. The wait staff was superb. They anticipated what needed to happen next. It didn't matter if it was their responsibility or not they all pitched in to make our experience great! That teamwork from the wait staff pays off as I now want to come back with my clients for my work meetings! Thanks for a memorable experience!"

  • "Decent food but drinks took 20 minutes then appetizer took half hour. Server apologized but didn't speed up entrees. Took over 2 hours for 2 people while we watched tables of families near us come and go during our time there. Food was average at best. Wanted to try it once but won't be back. Would recommend other Surg restaurants instead."

  • "I loved this place when it was Eight-12 and was concerned when they changed names. Rest assured, the food quality is still amazing and the service was perfect. It was truly a wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back. FWIW, I ordered a filet mignon and it was one of the best, if not THE best, that I've ever had."

  • "First time will not be last every thing was excellent"

  • "This is a common problem, the wait staff focuses so much attention on us getting our food, do the customary 5 minute check and then forget about us. We sat for 15 minutes without food and almost out of beverages. Other than that our guy was really nice."

  • "We had gone to Hom while it was 8-Twelve and loved it, so of course we went back when it became Hom. The decor has some minor changes but the same feel that really celebrates Wisconsin. And the menu has changed but has the same feel - we enjoyed everything we ordered. Definitely try Hom, you will be glad you did."
