He hates chain restaurants because he eats there regularly for his job, so when he is in town, he likes small non-chain restaurants. He grew up here and comes back to see his parents 2-3 times a year. During Christmas, we went to a couple of places in East Nashville and for this trip, he said he wanted to go to the Holland House. It's a great place with a fantastic vibe. There were three of us and we all ordered something different. Everyone loved the food. For me, that's probably the best meal I've had in years. The combination of food and sauces was fantastic. One oddity was that instead of s basket of bread, you get a basket of popcorn. My wife loved it. I'm currently pregnant, and wanted to go somewhere that could make me something to drink besides ginger ale and they did not disappoint. The bartender came up with a great and very refreshing "mocktail" with ginger and cucumber, and my husband loved his handcrafted cocktails. The food was delicious, and the bread pudding with cocoa nibs and NUTELLA was plate licking good. I'm proud that this is in our neighborhood. Also, the server was very helpful, going to lengths to accommodate my desire for cheese but my inability to eat anything unpasteurized at the moment. The food was unique and the prices were great. However, the signature cocktails were the true highlight of the night. Every part of food and drink tasted outstanding from the first drink to dessert. They have the best and most unique specialty drink menu I've seen in Nashville. Our appetizer (cheese plate) salad, entrees and dessert were prepared to perfection with beautiful presentation. It was only 5:45 but that gave us a chance to take advantage of a great happy hour that ended at 6pm. Drinks were delicious and we had the truffle frites which were very good. Graham was our server with a great sense of humor, excellent timing and attention to our table.
