A word from Hoku's
HOKU'S (reservations from 5:30pm - 10:00pm for dinner Wednesday through Sunday and closed on Monday and Tuesday nights) is heralded for its innovative fusion fare which melds Hawaiian, Asian and European flavors. Hoku's is consistently ranked as one of Hawaii's best restaurants.

/>With a twist on contemporary Island cuisine, Hoku's returns to the basics and revamps the classics. The cuisine is fresh, light, and innovative. The ever-popular Hoku's Ahi Musubi and the crisped whole Island Fish (for two) remain on the menu as local favorites. Ingredients are a mix of fresh locally grown produce and imports from abroad.

Hoku's has a breathtaking beachside setting with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from every table in the multi-level dining room.

Diner Reviews
  • "Superb menu choices. Excellent wine and cocktail choices. Delightful ocean view. Gracious but attentive service."

  • "The room is nice, beautiful view, good service, not too noisy. But, the food is very overpriced relative to its quality or creativity. Not well seasoned or interesting, and seriously pricey ....in the range of $40-70 for an entree.... Loved the setting, but definitely won't be going back."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "The entrees were consistently very good but not outstanding. Service remains a mainstay of the attraction of this restaurant. It is a regrettable mistake if you schedule dinner too late and miss the uncompromised view of the always spectacular Hawaiian sunset."

  • "Food was very good. Fresh, always replenished and neat. Although the crab was partially cracked, it would help to have utensils to get every morsel of crab meat out of the shells. Sashimi was excellent, very fresh."

  • "The food was nice, but not as good as I ordered a month ago. Somehow the beans with the rack of lamb were not as tasty as last time, but lamb was terrific. Service people were wonderful, but it felt like they were busy with others and we kept having to wave people down to clear our table and to order dessert. It seemed as if they didn't have enough staff, but the ones who did come to our table were so personable and nice (Renee, India and an asian guy (don't know if he had a name tag). Beautiful setting."

  • "Food was great as usual, service was excellent, the whole experience each time (4th) has been very nice."

  • "My boyfriend is a foodie and has really high expectations. We've gone to other brunches on the island before (hale koa) so he was a little hesitant to try something new. HE LOVED IT! he loved the quality of the food, the atmosphere and even compared it to the high quality buffets in Vegas. Over all the miso butter fish, lamb, king crab legs and never to forget complimentary almond pastries were a really big hit! Although the service was a little slow they were happy to provide kids cups for my boyfriends daughter and were really nice. We were very pleased with this brunch."

  • "The food & service was excellent. The waiters were very attentive to our needs. They brought us a special dessert for our anniversary. It was a wonderful surprise & a very special personal touch which added to our dining experience."

  • "The food was good, the rack of lamb was AMAZING! I loved their ahi aiole! The service was lovely, the wait staff were so friendly and warm. The view of the ocean was fantastic and really added to the ambiance. The food is a bit pricey, but what do you expect from a restaurant at the Kahala Resort? That's why I say it is great for a special occasion."

  • "Was disappointed with service. It was not up to par for a restaurant of this caliber. Our water glasses were filled only when we were almost empty. Drinks were offered not at the beginning but at the tail end of the meal. The food was limited but the offerings were excellent. Bread was limited and muffins and breakfast breads were not on the buffet. Could not find butter for the bread that I did find."

  • "Our waiter, Tony, was one of the best we've ever had. His attention to detail was outstanding. He never hovered but was always present when needed. At one point he even brought fresh ice water because he feared the room was too warm. The other staff in the place seemed to be equally trained and hold customer service in high regard. The food was excellent...we wished the selection had been a bit more broad. We were (perhaps unfairly) comparing this brunch to the brunch at the Royal Hawaiian (which sadly was canceled in January of 2014). In terms of service this was just as good as the RH but the food selection lacked in comparison."

  • "Our waitress didnt come by our table often. Had an empty glass of water for over 10 minutes. "

  • "Crowded in the aisles and not much room to move around the buffet but great to have freshly cooked hot items. The lamb was great and you don't always get to have that at buffets. I really liked the waitress bringing complimentary buttered croissants. The only bad thing was that they charge for every glass of their drinks like guava. Halekulani gives all refills free."

  • "Hoku's was excellent! The service was top-notch, friendly and very knowledgeable on the dishes being served. The food was out of this world! I ordered the rack of lamb and it was cooked to perfection! The best part is that the server brings it to you before it is plated just to make sure it is to your liking. We live on Oahu and will definitely be visiting Hoku's again! "

  • "From the moment we walked in until we left, the service was excellent. I asked our waitress if she could write "Happy Mother's Day" on our dessert even though it was 2 days before Mother's Day. And she did it. My wife was very surprised and happy. The appetizers, entree and wine was also excellent. I would come back here again and again!"

  • "we were there for the sunday seafood brunch. king crab, lobster, warm croissants, fried poke musubi, rack of lamb! yummy! we were only able to get a late reservation so by the end it felt like the a/c was turned off because it began to get incredibly warm. being stuff full of food then overly warm began to get uncomfortable."

  • "Food at Sunday Brunch was excellent. Fresh and tasty all with a great ocean view. Out of town guest enjoyed everything. We were given an excellent table for the 5 of us."
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "Food highlights were the asparagus, clam chowder, cold lobster, miso butterfish, shrimp tempura, guava croissant, tuna musubi. The made to order omelets were too dry. Service was attentive and helpful, without being intrusive. At times however it was hard to hear across the table."

  • "This was our second visit to Hoku's in a month. The first time was for a birthday dinner that everyone enjoyed tremendously and couldn't stop talking about for weeks, and my son's Instagram posts received so many envious likes. Our waitress at dinner suggested we come back for the brunch buffet because as she said, "It's the best!" Fortunately, another birthday had to be celebrated so, of course, we chose Hoku's Sunday brunch and agree that "It's the BEST!" We'd definitely like to go back again and probably won't even wait for a special occasion to celebrate. The food and ambience were outstanding, but the personal service we got from the staff made us feel even more special!"

  • "Only Alan Wong's have I found comes close in terms of class, food quality well worth the higher cost, and perfect execution. And Hoku's is better in terms of lower noise, more room between tables, awesome view and ravishing walk along beach available afterwards, .. and much more. None of servers haughty like in Waikiki. All personnel very personable yet absolutely professional and thoroughly knowledgeable in every facet of the menus, and they all work as a team, and treat you like royalty, no matter who you are. Sure thing for a great date or special occasion."

  • "if you like seafood, this is the place for Sunday brunch - all you can eat king crab legs, misoyaki butterfish, oysters on the half shell, sashimi, shrimp tempura, lobster tail, shrimp. For meat lovers - prime rib, rack of lamb, and much, much more."

  • "I have been to Hoku's about 5 times in 10 years and the food and service have been consistent and stellar. The wait staff are very knowledgeable about the menu and make excellent recommendations. I had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing and everything was perfect. The deep fried opakapaka was delicious and we were not afraid to "dig into it"."

  • "Made a reservation for our 20th anniversary. You would think they will reserve a good window table or at least the center elevated section without requesting but nope, it's a very poor table. Our servers were great. Food were better than before. They did send us dessert for apology but that's not what I care about."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Very pricey restaurant. But you pay for the tremendous food and excellent service. Not an everyday occasion. It's terrific for that special evening."

  • "I booked for a pre valentine's day dinner and I have to say that my wife and I were very happy! Taryn our server, was just great. attentive, but not intrusive. Food was top notch and even though it was a hazy day, the view from our window table was great as always! my only complaint would be that the chairs was a bit uncomfortable after an hour, but that's nit picking."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "Other restaurants may have a much bigger selection at the brunch buffet line but Hoku's excels in the quality of their offerings. The rack of lamb, lobster tails, and king crab legs were standouts. Their salad vegetables were very fresh. Being a cheese fan, I particularly loved their cheese assortment of Brie, muenster, Gouda, Boursin, and goat cheese. I look forward to having the pleasure of eating there again in the future."

  • "This was my first time but a favorite of all of my dinner companions. The setting is elegant but not pretentious. Service was very attentive and friendly. The "small" seafood tower was spectacular and more than enough for two with a variety of tasy dipping sauces. The stuffed prawn and fish (served Chinese style - not on menu) was delicious. Will return for another special occassion."

  • "Have been going to Hoku's for many years and have never been disappointed with anything. The food is outstanding, but for me it is the service that always impresses me the most. The server's are highly trained, know the menu in and out, and always on the spot to make suitable and delicious suggestions. We always feel the Aloha Spirit when eating at Hoku's and look forward to many more wonderful meals in the future."
