A word from Hoku's
HOKU'S (reservations from 5:30pm - 10:00pm for dinner Wednesday through Sunday and closed on Monday and Tuesday nights) is heralded for its innovative fusion fare which melds Hawaiian, Asian and European flavors. Hoku's is consistently ranked as one of Hawaii's best restaurants.

/>With a twist on contemporary Island cuisine, Hoku's returns to the basics and revamps the classics. The cuisine is fresh, light, and innovative. The ever-popular Hoku's Ahi Musubi and the crisped whole Island Fish (for two) remain on the menu as local favorites. Ingredients are a mix of fresh locally grown produce and imports from abroad.

Hoku's has a breathtaking beachside setting with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from every table in the multi-level dining room.

  • "This place had it all... On a romantic vacation in Hawaii and were staying at the Kahala, so we tried Hoku's. Everyone was dressed appropriately. The food was off the hook and the server could not have been better,. Would go back in a heart beat!"

  • "Food was excellent. Sushi melts in your mouth. An array of desserts. The juices were also good. Service was good also. Friendly staff. Awesome scenery. Can't wait till we go again. Will definitely recommend to family and friends."

  • "Food at Sunday Brunch was excellent. Fresh and tasty all with a great ocean view. Out of town guest enjoyed everything. We were given an excellent table for the 5 of us."

  • "Food highlights were the asparagus, clam chowder, cold lobster, miso butterfish, shrimp tempura, guava croissant, tuna musubi. The made to order omelets were too dry. Service was attentive and helpful, without being intrusive. At times however it was hard to hear across the table."

  • "My husband and I love to come here on special occasions, food always fresh and tasty. The service is top notch, be sure to ask for a booth much quieter more privacy. Too bad pricing so high, we would go more often but I guess you get what you pay for. We always get the large seafood tower, it's a meal for two people or appetizer for group."

  • "This was our second visit to Hoku's in a month. The first time was for a birthday dinner that everyone enjoyed tremendously and couldn't stop talking about for weeks, and my son's Instagram posts received so many envious likes. Our waitress at dinner suggested we come back for the brunch buffet because as she said, "It's the best!" Fortunately, another birthday had to be celebrated so, of course, we chose Hoku's Sunday brunch and agree that "It's the BEST!" We'd definitely like to go back again and probably won't even wait for a special occasion to celebrate. The food and ambience were outstanding, but the personal service we got from the staff made us feel even more special!"

  • "The food and service are consistently excellent. We find that the venue is a place where tranquility exists for the patrons allowing for a memorable dining experience. We view a visit to Hoku's as a brief respite from the trials and tribulations of daily life and we savor each occasion."

  • "Only Alan Wong's have I found comes close in terms of class, food quality well worth the higher cost, and perfect execution. And Hoku's is better in terms of lower noise, more room between tables, awesome view and ravishing walk along beach available afterwards, .. and much more. None of servers haughty like in Waikiki. All personnel very personable yet absolutely professional and thoroughly knowledgeable in every facet of the menus, and they all work as a team, and treat you like royalty, no matter who you are. Sure thing for a great date or special occasion."

  • "if you like seafood, this is the place for Sunday brunch - all you can eat king crab legs, misoyaki butterfish, oysters on the half shell, sashimi, shrimp tempura, lobster tail, shrimp. For meat lovers - prime rib, rack of lamb, and much, much more."

  • "I have been to Hoku's about 5 times in 10 years and the food and service have been consistent and stellar. The wait staff are very knowledgeable about the menu and make excellent recommendations. I had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing and everything was perfect. The deep fried opakapaka was delicious and we were not afraid to "dig into it"."

  • "Made a reservation for our 20th anniversary. You would think they will reserve a good window table or at least the center elevated section without requesting but nope, it's a very poor table. Our servers were great. Food were better than before. They did send us dessert for apology but that's not what I care about."

  • "Very pricey restaurant. But you pay for the tremendous food and excellent service. Not an everyday occasion. It's terrific for that special evening."

  • "I booked for a pre valentine's day dinner and I have to say that my wife and I were very happy! Taryn our server, was just great. attentive, but not intrusive. Food was top notch and even though it was a hazy day, the view from our window table was great as always! my only complaint would be that the chairs was a bit uncomfortable after an hour, but that's nit picking."

  • "Other restaurants may have a much bigger selection at the brunch buffet line but Hoku's excels in the quality of their offerings. The rack of lamb, lobster tails, and king crab legs were standouts. Their salad vegetables were very fresh. Being a cheese fan, I particularly loved their cheese assortment of Brie, muenster, Gouda, Boursin, and goat cheese. I look forward to having the pleasure of eating there again in the future."

  • "This was my first time but a favorite of all of my dinner companions. The setting is elegant but not pretentious. Service was very attentive and friendly. The "small" seafood tower was spectacular and more than enough for two with a variety of tasy dipping sauces. The stuffed prawn and fish (served Chinese style - not on menu) was delicious. Will return for another special occassion."

  • "Have been going to Hoku's for many years and have never been disappointed with anything. The food is outstanding, but for me it is the service that always impresses me the most. The server's are highly trained, know the menu in and out, and always on the spot to make suitable and delicious suggestions. We always feel the Aloha Spirit when eating at Hoku's and look forward to many more wonderful meals in the future."

  • "We had the whole opakapaka and it came deep fried with three sauces, jasmine rice, and mixed veggies. It was very delicious and the service was outstanding."

  • "Hoku's was everything we expected it to be. The food was excellent and plentiful, and the service was very good. I can't think of a favorite food item as everything was delicious. We are definitely going back again."

  • "My girlfriend and I enjoyed dinner at Hoku's Saturday, 1/11, the service and ambiance were as good as advertised. Robert was our maître d and he was professional, witty, and made us feel extremely welcome. We had the Short Rib Tempura and Kula Baby Romaine appetizers and the Salt Crusted Colorado Rack of Lamb without the almonds (I am allergic) and a Swordfish with coconut rice. I especially like the presentation of the Rack of Lamb, the salt crust was cut at our table, the meat steaming and juices running and perfectly cooked medium well. Our reservation was at 7, we were seated quickly and we were immediately impressed by the spaciousness of the dining room and architectural details of the arched ceiling. Highest recommendation."

  • "I expected good food with great service with such price for brunch. However, the service was very disappointing. One server only came to our table at the beginning to serve drinks and collecting used dishes and never offered any other services until 2:30 when they about to clean up, I had to ask for coffee.... to busy during new year I guess."

  • "We always enjoy excellent food, drinks, and service at Hoku's. Their fresh fish dishes are delicious and can be ordered in different preparations. A great suggestion is to order 2 or 3 different appetizers (i.e. Poke Musubi and Tempura Short Ribs) rather than an entree so you can enjoy a variety of dishes."

  • "As usual, the food was beautifully laid out. And everything tasted great, except the desserts were mediocre. For the first time ever, we didn't have a very friendly server. She seemed too busy. In fact, she said, when we asked if she would take a photo of us, "Yes, if it's fast." Other than that, we had a great time but we will probably try another brunch spot for our holiday brunch tradition."

  • "Great service. Great place. Had a very wonderful and particularly attentive Server, a woman who helped us with our order. Enjoyed the place very very much. My friend came in shorts and they were even happy to help him with some pants from the house. The Italian restaurant at the Kailua was very good too!"

  • "In the Kahala Hotel, this restaurant is the best of the 3 restaurants there. We were there for New Year's Eve and realty enjoyed the festive atmosphere as well as the great food and service. Our waitress was terrific and helped to put us in the mood. She was having as much fun as we were. It was a great way to spend the pre- party New Year's celebration at The Kahala Hotel."

  • "Having our xmas dinner at Hoku's. Food is good, esp. fresh sashimi, however, didn't expect to dine in a very noisy environment. Too bad we didn't get to see any view outside at night. I would imagine hoku's has very nice scenic view."

  • "Food still very good but food seems to be gettIng pricey."

  • "We tried the 3 and 5 course tasting menus with wine pairings. Dishes were delicious as always, and well proportioned. And the wine pairings were truly sensible. One criticism...hold the mayo, please! The idea of a mayo based spread for the otherwise lovely bread is beyond me. And if you are able to serve olive oil in lieu of the mayo based spread, at least use good quality olive oil. Nevertheless, we will be back."

  • "We went for the Sunday Buffet Brunch with another couple. We all enjoyed the food selections. They had hot and cold food and a nice selection of desserts. You could order an omelet made just for you. We had made the reservation months in advance, which is why (we think), that we were seated at an ocean-view table. Very nice! They also had live dolphins and sea turtles to view in the back."

  • "The atmosphere wasn't as romantic as I hoped and we spent a lot more than I expected to, but the food was good and the service was terrific. The hotel grounds are very romantic and decorations during Christmas are beautiful."
