Don't make reservations here, folks. My friend and I arrived to find it was recently closed unexpectedly. Put a damper on our day.

Food was excellent. service was attentive and friendly. we were in and out in less than an hour with soup, hot appetizers and sushi. Rolls on the menu were inventive and delicious. nothing to criticize.

We went here for sushi, but didn't think that it was good. It didn't taste fresh. There are so many sushi places nowadays, they would need to provide better sushi if they want to keep up with other restaurants.

The inside of this restaurant is beautiful and clean, not very busy, fairly quiet and has great sushi. I saw others complain about slow service but didn't experience that myself. If you love sushi you will love this place, the Thai tea is pretty good as well.

Although the restaurant was not crowded (< 50% occupied), our reserved table was not ready for us, and it was more than 45 minutes before we received water and drinks. While waiting, we stood at the empty bar, and were not acknowledged. Despite telling our waiter we had theatre tickets that night (6:30 reservation/ 8:00 theatre), service did not improve. But. the food was incredible, when it finally arrived! Great sushi rolls! However, we were late for the theatre...

We read the reviews and were skeptical of the service and there were times we wondered where the waiter went, but it wasn't bad even on Saturday night and the food was terrific. would def go there again.

I read the blogs before making a reservation. Most were good and a few complained about waiting a long time even with a reservation. So, we reserved early for Valentines Day, 5:30 PM and were pleasantly surprised. Prices were low, service was great because only a few tables were occupied. But best of all, the food was outstanding. My wife got a sashimi dish she couldn't finish and I ordered Ton Katsu which came with two cutlets instead of just one; and plenty of sauce to boot. I definitely recommend y'all try Hokkaido. Go on line and look at the menu and compare it to some others in the area. I can see why some bloggers say what the say about how busy this place can be.

  • Restaraunt Week Review

My girlfriend and I went here late on a Sunday night during restaraunt week and we both left more than pleased...and stuffed. There was only one other table that was dining, but the overall ambience of Hokkadio itself was excellent. We both fell in love with the lighting and the overall feel of the place itself. Our service was great and pertinent and we never once had a complaint. The food selection for restaurant week was impeccable with five different courses. The best course was the fourth one, in which you had a choice to pick two of their signature rolls. I got the Four Fish Roll and the IPhone 5S, and the presenation was awesome. Not to mention it tasted great. Overall great experience, will come back!

We had lunch here withour son and daughter whom are 0 and 1 years of age. The staff took great care of making sure our little guy was happy and he even ate the Yellowtail Jalepeno. The quality of the special rolls and the sashimi are top level and the price was reasonable. Everything came out quickly and was perfectly delicious. My little man was only 15 months old and he ate every single different type of sushi and sashmini that we had... he has not done that again since. It must be Hokkaido.

I was very disappointed. We waited almost 40 minutes for are table that I had reserved. This would have been ok but we where literally the only table in there. They never brought me my drink order the entire meal. Several things I had to ask for more than once. The appetizers took forever to come out then they brought out all of the food at once. My friend who is a vegetarian we brought to the wrong food that was beef. I will not be returning.

Had a 9:15 reservation arrived at 9:10 it took someone 15 minutes to even greet us. Then after that they told us to wait because they didn't have a table, how does this happen when you have reservations? Took another 20 mins to get seated. That was only problem. Food was excellent, and the waitress was nice. Ambience was good bar drinks were good as well

  • Restaurant Week Nightmare

I made a reservation for three during Philly's restaurant week with a few friends. When we arrived, the place was a war zone. Mobs of people were standing out the door waiting for their reservations. It took 45 minutes to get a table. We sit down and wait another half hour for the waiter to come for our orders then our food takes about an hour and a half to be served. In all, we spent 3 hours at this restaurant and were eating for, maybe, one of those hours. That said, the sushi/sashimi was delicious and their wasabi was much stronger than most sushi lounge wasabi is. This restaurant would be a good pick for a happy hour or lunch trip, but restaurant week is not their strong suit due to their unusual layout and poor staffing.

This was the 1st myself, my husband, & our good friend had ever been here. The food is delicious, although their crowning jewel is sushi. The fish is fresh and melts in your mouth! Very fancy decor, lots of cool lighting. BUT, they should have been better staffed for a Friday night during Restaurant Week. We saw only three waitresses, there was no hostess, and they only had two sushi chefs. There must have been a good 60+ diners there, and it took FOREVER to be given all of our courses, We arrived at 8:30pm, and we weren't given dessert until 10:30pm! We will try them once more during the week for lunch. Also the RW five course was a great deal for the money. Also, it was quite loud. We could barely hear the music they were playing.

We are the family of five with kids from 6-11 years old. We got the private room which perfect for the family with kids. Food is excellent, service is a little slow but understandable for a busy Friday evening. The wonderful sushi has made up for the wait. Would definitely come back again.

This was my first time at Hokkaido. I had a craving for sushi, and this place absolutely delivered. The Chilean sea bass roll with mango and avocado was one of the best rolls I've ever had, and I will definitely be coming back. The restaurant week dinner deal had outstanding value. The service on the other hand was a little bit questionable. Our reservation was at 6:30, and the place was packed by 7:30. I don't know if the staff wasn't used to the influx of people from restaurant week or what, but it took about 20 minutes to get our checks at the end of the meal. It's not that the staff wasn't trying, but I don't think they were used to all the people. I will definitely be returning.

When I first walked in I was excited to eat here...it looks like a beautiful restaurant with great lighting and a glowing bar. I was seated upstairs at 8pm and waited until 8:15pm for a server. My first course came out at 9pm and it ended up taking sso long that my last disk arrived shortly before 10pm. The servers were very nice and when I asked why it was taking so long the server told me that they had a busy take out business. I was not impressed to say the least. On the positive side, the food was delicious.

Hokkaido is very pretty, but was totally unexciting in all other respects. We went for restaurant week, but chose not to use the special menu as it actually offered TOO much food. What we did order was just okay and our waitress, while very friendly, did have some difficulty communicating with us. All considered, it would not be on our list to return.

We booked a table here before attending a play at the Wilma. We were pleasantly surprised to learn we arrived in time to take advantage of their happy hour specials on sushi, rolls and drinks. In fact, even items that weren't on the happy hour list were discounted 25% on our bill. Food was tasty and artfully presented. The waitress was very friendly but a bit language challenged. We will definitely return.

Wasn't quite sure what to expect, but was very pleasantly surprised. The service was great: attentive without being annoying, prompt delivery of food, frequently asked how our meal was. There is a wide selection of sushi/sashimi as well as Thai specialties. The rolls we ordered were incredibly good and well prepared. Only question: why was this place so empty on a Friday night? Was it because it was the night after Thanksgiving or is it always this quiet? I will definitely return and so will my quests!
