Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is absolutely great. The best way I can describe it is southern comfort food with a twist. I loved it! Good prices and awesome food. The noise level was very high, but it was still worth the visit."

  • "great spot for my birthday party as dishes are great for sharing. the foodies among us loved the interesting dishes and pizzas were handtossed, thin crust and sublime. though the crab claws dish was actually tiny claws and the wait staff should have told us that everything else was generous and delicious. the fried green tomatoes were great!"

  • "Hog and Hominy has great food and fun energetic environment. I really enjoyed my Old Fashion cocktail and the peanut butter pie is as good as advertised. The meatballs and shirt ribs were great and the pizza is very flavorful. Only complaint is the parking. Will be returning soon!"

  • "They were so nice and hospitable, and the patty squash baked with tomatoes was amazing. Good food and great casual, young, fun vibe. One big open room. Couldn't be more different from Andrew Michael in terms of vibe. But the food is similarly outstanding."

  • "The only negative we had was the bar was working with a new cocktail menu and the drinks took longer than expected and the server had to keep apologizing. But the food and drinks were worth the short wait. Sweet breads app was killer, poutin had delicious gravy and the pizzas were great."

  • "I went for lunch this time, and thought the food was very good. We tried the pretzel hot dog, the marinara pizza and one of the white pizzas. It took 15 minutes for anyone to bring us water, and I was THIRSTY! We enjoyed the food, which came out pretty quickly. My only complaint was that 2 pizzas and a hot dog for lunch with a tip should not cost close to $50. That seemed very expensive for a lunch. I would return for dinner, but the pizzas and the lunch prices are too high."

  • "This is by far one of the best restaurants I have been to in a while. The was my first visit and in my opinion, the best way to judge a restaurant is by the burger and John T burger was absolutely delicious! I wish it was slightly larger. The fresh fruit instead of fries were pure awesomeness! I will definitely be going back for more!"

  • "I am only 40 and do not consider my noise tolerance to be low, but with the concrete floors and smooth ceilings, the place was just too loud. And this was on a Tuesday night. Too bad because it was date night and we really wanted to like the place."

  • "My aunt and I always try out new restaurants in the Memphis area, and this restaurant has been on our lis for a while. When we came, we were seated quick and the food came out fast. Everything was delicious and well plated. We will be coming again"

  • "Pizzas are neapolitan style and some of the best I've had. Great cocktails. This is a bit of a hot spot and it does tend to get a little loud sometimes."

  • "We have been here three times now. The food is outstanding! This time we had the arugula salad and two pizza's - Red White and Blue and Red Eye. Salad was crisp and tangy. Red White and Blue had the perfect amount of heat with the right amount of peppers. The Red Eye is the best pizza I have ever eaten. You don't think about an egg in the middle of your pizza, but with this pizza, it works and works and works. Great restaurant!"

  • "The atmosphere was very open and unique but that also was not conducive for easy conversation. I was there on a Monday evening and often struggled to hear the person I was dining with."

  • "Eclectic menu with interesting pizzas and good bar, and reasonably priced."

  • "Today we visited for Sunday Funday where the menu is different than it is on other days of the week. Andy and Michael and the staff at H&H do a fantastic job of creating delicious dishes!"

  • "Good place for the inquisitive palette. Good presentation. Loud. Friendly staff. Would have liked ice water."

  • "The good was incredible and I love that items are made to share. My only complaint is the noise level. It is very hard to have a conversation. It's way too loud."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "The food is very unique and includes non-standards like pigs' ears, frogs' legs and sweetbreads. If you want innovative and tasty food, this is a great place. The plates are small so you can try different options. Do not go with a fussy eater, however. I highly recommend the biscuit gnocchi and the malted milk chocolate mousse dessert. They also make a really good Manhattan."

  • "I was very satisfied with the way the food turned out. I was skeptical when I first read the menu. However, I was pleasantly suprised. I really enjoyed the pizza. It was spectacular."

  • "The best gluten-free pizza crust ever! Unique combinations of toppings, too."

  • "This was a good experience, good food and interesting menu. We had poutine and a pizza with veal and goat cheese. The poutine (French fries with neck bone gravy and chili oil) were great- a bit heavy on the chili oil lots more than a "drizzle". The pizza crust was a little too charred from the fire- we still enjoyed the two leftover slices that evening. The service was attentive to quite variable towards the end of our meal, when the restaurant had gotten really busy. Great job on packing leftovers for us. The prices are a bit high, balanced by portion size though. We enjoyed it and will return to try the regular menu."

  • "Menu has several items which are unusual fare, if you're used to "normal" dining. Every dining experience I've had there has been an adventure with pleasurable payoffs. Even the normal choices have interesting flavors. A definite must, even if you aren't a foodie!"

  • "Collards were lip-smacking delicious. Short ribs were okay on flavor. Mini pizza "special" was Mediterranean yumminess. Oysters were chill and buttery. Romaine salad was mighty tasty, especially with the fried chicken skins. The gnocchi was lemony and super fresh. Service was efficient and appropriately relaxed. Will definitely return to sample more of the goodness. Thanks hog & Hominy!"

  • "We enjoyed our brunch at hog and Hominy. The food was delicious, perfectly prepared, and nicely proportioned. Southern cooking can be overdone in many ways but this was not. Instead of a basket of "ok" biscuits, we got one fabulous biscuit, just like my Mamaw used to make. One was enough to save room for a lovely fritatta, and shrimp and grits, shared between the two of us. Cannot forget to mention the bar: very interesting morning cocktails. Thoroughly enjoyed!! Andrew and Michael have done it again and we are thrilled y'all are here in Memphis!!!"

  • "I booked a table at Hog & Hominy for an old friend and me. We hadn't seen each other in a while and we were anxious to catch up. We were seated in the dining room and had a difficult time hearing each other. We asked the wait staff if we could be seated outside and they were extremely accommodating even though it was a bit confusing for them and us to know who our waitress really was. However, it didn't interfere with having a good experience and enjoying the food and wine. The pizza was fabulous. I didn't really know what most of the side dishes were by reading the descriptions but the two we ordered (only one I can remember was the arugula salad) were quite good and complemented the pizza well. "

  • "Great for groups. Interesting flavor combinations like scallops with peaches, which worked. I would pass on the hoecakes next time. "

  • "Quattro Formaggi pizza was delish, Biscuit Gnocci my husband ordered had great layers of flavor, squash blossoms were shared and devoured and I was SO glad my husband turned down a bitenof my sweetbreads because it meant there was more for me!! Peanut butter pie was the nail in the coffin. Our only complaint--not mine--my husband ordered coffee with his dessert and said it tasted like it had been sitting around a while. Otherwise, it was absolutely a fabulous dinner and a lovely evening!!"

  • "So I've been to Hog and Hominy 4 or 5 times. Each and every time I've felt robbed- spending a bit too much on only decent execution. The buffalo pork tails were theoretically a great approach on wings but the dish lacked balance, followed up by the overly sweet short ribs. Of the two pizzas we had, the simple margarita was too sparse in flavor and had poor distribution of toppings. The service can be spotty, sometimes thoroughly engaged and other times overly nonchalant and often ending in any capacity before the dinner plates are cleared. Does it have promise? Yes. Is it good for Memphis? Somewhat. But it lacks execution and balance across the board."

  • "Very tasty brick oven 12" pizzas (and we're from NY. and critical) using a nice mix of fresh ingredients. Other dishes are tapa sized. We had a artichoke, asparagus with poached egg over a house made brioche besides a goat cheese and veal sausage pizza. The two cocktails that we had were well crafted and were riffs on well known drinks using premium spirits and fresh ingredients. Our only negative was that the noise level was quite high making it difficult to carry on a conversation. The prices were reasonable considering the high quality of the food, the creative menu and the excellent service. "

  • "Amazing food, raw seafood bar, locally sourced produce , farm to table menu, pizza oven, modern and casual décor, amazing service, overall a gem!"

  • "The food was good and waitress was great. Hillary did a great job of acclimating us to how their theme of small plates would work. My boss enjoyed it. So much better than a stuffy steakhouse. Good beers, very good food and great service. We tried 7-8 plates. Bill was a fraction of a typical upscale restaurant. For casual or trendy diners "

  • "We love Hog and Hominy because the food beautifully prepared and created with the highest standards. I felt like the menu on this occasion did not fit the prefixed price. It was all excellent, but at $39.00 a person I just expected something more robust. It was not a good value. Again, the food was awesome and it will not affect me returning. The service was slow and the server seemed very busy. The restaurant seemed a little behind even at an 11:00 am seating. "

  • "I took my family here to introduce them to the insanely excellent food available in Memphis. This restaurant did not disappoint. The prices were reasonable, and the servings were perfect for a group of four sharing multiple plates. I definitely want to return with friends for future fun dining experiences!"

  • "I should start this all by saying I am not easily impressed. I am originally from Memphis but have been living in Chicago for 8 years, so I am used to having great meals. hog and hominy takes a great meal to another whole level. I cannot remember the last time I had a great meal, talked to the head chef, discussed favorite restaurants and watches, and had an amazing cocktail all in one night. I would suggest hands down to anyone visiting Memphis to visit this restaurant and you will not regret it for one moment. And oh by the way it's a 5 star restaurant for a 2 star price. Amazing."
