Diner Reviews
  • "Food was outstanding. Great app choices followed by fantastic Walleye entree. Will be thinking about deviled eggs and oysters for awhile."

  • "The service was better than it used to be, maybe because we dinned outside. Their grilled cheese sandwiches are absolutely wonderful. Highly recommended."

  • "While tucked away between two buildings, Hodges Patio dining was fabulous! Cool outside bar too. Food was delish - espcially the scallops and corn risotto with fresh corn off the cob! The chicken wings were meaty and spicy and we loved the dates / bacon. My big city guests from NY, LA and Atlanta LOVED it as did I. And the interior space is worth a look too - This was a recommendation from the concierge at the Hilton Garden inn and I certainly do too!"

  • ". $25 for grits?! Crab hush puppies, could not find any crab. Corn chowder was lukewarm with hardly any corn. Salmon was undercooked, overpriced, portion was small. Overall pricing needs to be lowered and more attention paid to food quality and preparation."

  • "Atmosphere casual and fun--a great place for drinks and appetizers, but main entrees a bit on the pricey side."

  • "This was our third trip to Hodge's and, while the experience has always been nice, it has never been exceptional. We had the Hanky Pankies appetizer and we do love that. The Cornbread was too sweet for me but my wife liked it. I had the Street Corn Risotto which was good but not great. The beer selection is now just average given the wide range of craft beers that are available elsewhere. Our server was very attentive. We'll probably return but we won't hurry back."

  • "For three of us in our six-person dinner party, it was our first time dining at Hodge's. Really enjoyed everything about it, especially the food & interior of the restaurant. We'll be back & recommending friends & out-of-towners there, to be sure. Thanks for a good, memorable, Cleveland-y experience!"

  • "My wife and I were pretty over dressed for it, we went for our 5 year anniversary thinking that it was a little more upscale so we had dress clothes on. Did not need them there were people in t-shirts and jeans. The food was excellent, I would absolutely recommend the burger."

  • "My wife and I had read about the chef in a recent issue of Food & Wine. He was voted one of the best chefs in the Great Lakes Region. As it turned out the editors of F&W were spot on! The food, service, and ambience at Hodges were fantastic. We look forward to going back again and again."

  • "Hodge's had a lot of great reviews on another site so I was looking forward to trying it. However, our food was just ok and the service was very slow. We waited almost an hour for our dinners and they were not busy."

  • "Excellent spot for after a show at Hilarities. One of the nicest patios around with a great staff."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Hodge's is a great place to catch a bite to eat with your co-workers, family or friends. The menu is simple yet tasty and the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is modern yet comfortable!"

  • "We had a party of 11 on Friday, wings under-cooked, hush puppies overbooked, dinners nothing special. We could have gotten better food at Applebee's."

  • "Nice food presentation and flavor (wings and burgers were great). We came to to Hodges around 4p with a group of 5 work colleagues - restaurant was empty, so first guy got a table. When I arrived I asked for any happy hour specials (there were quite a few) but they were only available at the bar so we decided to sit at the bar and watch the soccer match. Staff was not so friendly after that point, almost as if they were upset we made them set up the table initially. The restaurant was empty, they could have extended the happy hour special to us there!"

  • "We had great food, great service and a great time!"
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Loved the food and service - very attentive. Beverage service was awesome as my friend's soda was refilled about 4 times without asking ever, even after we paid. Seating was great along the wall in a comfortable banquette. Only raised eyebrow was at the hard edged music which was a bit loud for lunch conversation."

  • "We dined outside at Hodges on a rather slow Monday night. The restaurant patio and bar could do with some more attractive landscaping to make this venue 'pop.' Our server was efficient and friendly and represented this restaurant well. Our selections included an appetizer smörgåsbord which presented a delicious variety of sausages, cheese and pickled vegetables. Dining options were presented nicely, but most were priced in the high $20's which seemed high for the type of offerings, and not comparable to the price or quality of other downtown restaurants. All items ordered were tasty and creatively prepared, except for the standard menu walleye, which didn't have a tremendous amount of flavor in preparation."

  • "This is my new favorite restaurant in Cleveland! My husband and I went here to celebrate our anniversary and the service was great! We sat on the patio and our server was the bartender at the outside bar. He was very attentive and recommended his favorite meal and even had a special drink that he created for the night. The food was fabulous and we got a free dessert for celebrating our anniversary. It was a nice surprise after a perfect dining experience. "

  • "It was a perfect evening for dining outside. We asked for substitutions to please our non-spicy palates and were accommodated on every level and with great aplomb! Thanks for a very pleasant evening."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "The goat cheese tartlette was smooth and creamy, and the animal tots is a dish worth coming back for! The shrimp and grits and the burger were big hits at our table, but the scallops weren't worth the price. I was disappointed they were out of the handpies. The chocolate chip cookie skillet was nothing special. The service, however, was exceptional!"
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "The food was good. The restaurant was nearly empty and the menu was very limited. Overall the whole experience wasn't worth the price. ($50 for two for dinner, and $10 for valet outside)"
    Dined on 6/5/2014
  • "We had a reservation and were seated twenty minutes late. One of the tables was wobbly and it took about 10 minutes to fix that. The food was good the service - by the server - was good but awkward. Just not worth what we paid. "

  • "I thought the atmosphere was great. The service was not great for lunch. People are usually in a hurry and don't have a long time for lunch. We were told that our server had to leave and would be right back. It took us almost 20 minutes to order. The food came and it was good, nothing spectacular. I would try again as the outdoor area looks really nice. Maybe for a happy hour when I'm not pressed for time. "

  • "This was my wife and my first experience at Hodges. It was more than we expected. The walk to the restaurant was a surprise as we where not aware the change in the neighborhood. It has been years since we walked that part of Euclid Ave. It was great to see the change. We both went to CSU and when we went their, downtown was frankly a dump. The changes in the area are great. As for the restaurant, everything was great form the service to the food. I had the walleye and my wife the scallops. They where both outstanding. The cornbread was out of this world. I would recommend Hodges to anyone. We had a great time. "

  • "It was my first time dining here and I was pleased. I have a gluten allergy and they were accommodating. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful."

  • "Nice deal for two. One appetizer for 2 , entree and bottle of wine for 40 dollars. Second time ate there before Indians game first time for deal. I had chicken which was tender and full of flavor. Husband had beef said it was very tasty. Good service. Friendly staff. Nice outdoor area with bar. "

  • "Food was good but very expensive given the size of the portions and ala carte nature of the menu.Probably will not come back."

  • "This was our first time at Hodges and it was excellent. We'll definitely return. Our server was excellent and the food delicious. He also asked us right when we sat down if we had to make a show, and kept the pace of service up without making us feel hurried. "

  • "We went to Hodges prior to a comedy show down on East 4th Street. Our waitress was a dud, been there 2 months and she sapped the energy out of the place. But the food ( Scallops, Salmon, deviled eggs, hanky pankies) more than over compensated!! The host staff were full of energy and the food was better than anything I have ever eaten from a Michael Simon restaurant which is just down the street! we would certainly return before a show or before/after a tribe game."

  • "Pleasantly surprised, great food, perfect pre theater!"

  • "We found out in trying to get a reservation even on a Tuesday before showtime at Playhouse Square, that places fill quickly. We have never been to Hodges before, but now that we have been there, we will be back! Tuesday happens to be the night of Two for $40 at Hodges that includes a shared appetizer, 2 entrees, and a bottle of (cheap California, but serviceable) wine. Our waiter seemed a little perturbed by having to work on the "deal" night - he wasn't rude, but he was a little condescending /patronizing. We left a generous tip to try to improve his attitude. The food was amazing! We shared hushpuppies, had a shrimp entree and a steak entree -both delicious. They certainly don't skimp on quality for deal night!"

  • "Recently went to Hodges for outdoor dining. Good value on Tues 1 appetizer 2 entrees and bottle if wine for $40 nice idea! Good value! Enjoyed outdoor patio!"

  • "My friend and I have been there before and returned on a Tuesday evening which is our theater night. We were pleasantly surprised to find a 'Tuesday' special on the menu. It was a nice selection of entrees and appetizers. The $40 for two included: a bottle of wine (a white and two reds to choose from), an appetizer to share, and two entrees. We chose the Pino Grigeo, corn chowder soup, (we each had an entire bowl) and salmon over wild rice. Wow! The wine was crisp and chilled. The chowder was creamy and delicious. And the salmon was moist and flaky and done to perfection. The wild rice was filled with asparagus and wonderfully fluffy. We liked Hodges before but this was a reason to return again and again!"

  • "We love the food at Hodge's and the servers are friendly, but the kitchen is incredibly slow, even when we informed them of our theater curtain time. After waiting forty minutes, our server told us she was "expediting" our order. We were seated before 5:30, and were served at almost 6:30. This is the second time in the past year that service has been an issue...and the restaurant was not particularly busy. Food would all taste better if we were not rushed in eating it."
    Dined on 5/13/2014
  • "Not worth what you get for the money. Food is good, but portions so small for the price it is almost laughable and to add insult to injure they give your bill in an envelope with word DAMAGE on it. I try not to repeat something that causes DAMAGE."
    Dined on 5/12/2014
  • "Really a nice place, will definitely return to hang and eat outside when weather gets better."
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "Food was great....as a vegetarian I thought it didn't offer too much, but the corn risotto was nice. The wait staff was hustling but food was coming out slow from the kitchen. After an hour seated, we had only our salads. The waiter forgot the cornbread and brought it out after we had eaten the salads. The cornbread was warm and crumbly. Overall a great place, just don't go there before you have to leave for a play or concert!"

  • "Our reservations were for 7 PM got seated about 15 min late. Food was phenomenal. Server did a great job but kitchen and bar seemed stretched to the max, fairly good wait for drinks. One of us got her appetizer (corn bisque) served at the same time as her entrée. "
