  • "The winter menu is far superior to what we experience this evening. Plus, it's far less crowded (and loud) in winter. The summer menu left a lot to be desired. I'll wait until the winter menu is back before returning. The staff was attentive and respectful. I have nothing bad to say about the evening except that the food could be (and has been) better."

  • "Appeals to a cross section of people, something for everyone on the menu. Only reasons I didn't give them 5 stars is that my burger ordered rare came medium+ (I know, could have asked for another one, but didn't want to slow down the evening), and the service was a bit slow (only one server?). Definitely will revisit again soon."

  • "We have always had consistently (very) good meals at The Public House. We most recently visited on 4/16. Miss the Mac/Lobster & Cheese, but change happens:). Only "criticism" was that the Backyard Salad was ordered without the crumbled bacon as there was a vegetarian in our group, but it came with the bacon. Not a big deal, but thought you'd want to know. We'll be back. Again!"

The waitstaff were attentive, yet not overbearing. We happened to visit on Sunday evening when they have live music which was a nice surprise - great music which didn't overpower the dining experience. We'll be back!"

  • "While I wish we lived closer so we could come more often, it is also great to have a few months go by and come back and find new dishes on the menu. I wanted to order way more than I could eat. Everything from the soup to the steak to the amazing starter was delicious and perfectly prepared and presented. Our server Sarah was wonderful. She has the most appetizing way of describing everything on the menu with her hands accompanying her voice....I could envision its preparation ...and she makes everything sound like you can't do without it. Extremely knowledgeable and attentive and gracious. Hinesburg now has become a destination for us...even if it takes over an hour for us to get there.....It's worth it!! We will be back again."

  • "We are lucky to have such a great community restaurant in our town. The food is consistent, with options for everyone including vegetarian and seafood and local beef. The service is outstanding -- friendly, crisp, and the owners are often working along with the staff. Sunday night music (jazz, so far) is a nice change, and makes for a relaxing night out. A great value - highly recommend it."

  • "The staff was friendly and made grabbing a quick supper fun. The Maple sweet potato chipotle soup was tasty, but I couldn't really notice any smoky chipotle pepper flavor to it. My pulled pork sandwich had a tangy barbeque sauce and was very tasty. I didn't try it, but hear the salmon is very good. Will definitely stop bay again if I am in the area."

  • "My husband and I dined at The Public House last Sunday evening, and were delighted to find several local jazz musicians "jamming"--all talented in their own right. Even better to hear was these sessions come together every Sunday! We enjoyed the fish and chips, and a salmon burger, both served quite promptly. The Public House is so congenial, we always leave feeling very positive about the community we live in."

  • "TERRIBLE service (more than 1 hr wait in a half-full restaurant to place an order). When I approached the front desk, things improved and the front desk staff took over, took our order and rushed our food through. The food was good (we had the hummus and fried perch for appetizers; then steak and frites, and mussels as mains), the woman at the front desk worked marvels to try to make up for the wait staff, but the wait staff were HOPELESS. They were downright rude and said I should have chased them! A shame: truly the WORST service experienced at any restaurant anywhere in the world, simply because it was non-existent. So... good food, nice owner, great jazz on Sundays, fabulous front desk, all ruined by TRULY TERRIBLE waiter/waitresses."

  • "It is nice to have a clean and upper scaled atmosphere in Hinesburg. The space is comfortable when meeting groups of friends. However, the food is just okay. For example, the beet salad had about 3 beet pieces in it. And the salmon was overcooked."

  • "Not much choice for vegetarians or those likening whole grains. Very heavy on Mexican type hot spices. How bout some Indian style curries, creative veggie soups, stews, egg dishes. My bean burger was burnt. Server not accommodating at all. My husband's scallops however were delicious he reports. We love the idea of the Public house and will return. Just hope to be able to enjoy the food more."

  • "Food was great, the waiter was attentive without hovering. The chef came by the table and chatted for a moment. We were treated to a complimentary "anniversary" Creme Brulee for two that was outstanding!!!! The drinks (while probably not a problem for most people) were VERY strong. I ordered a hot apple toddy and couldn't drink it-----so that was $8.00 wasted----it was even too strong for my husband----and he will drink most anything!!! The menu has a good selection, albeit a little pricey. It's not a restaurant that I will go to weekly, but certainly one that I will return to on special occasions."

  • "This restaurant is a gem hidden away in Hinesburg, yet easy to get to. The food is locally grown and always delicious. The staff is outstanding! The waitstaff are very knowledgable of the menu, and willing to make a recommendation. They are always friendly and all do a wonderful job. The chef has come out several times to check with patrons on how their food was prepared. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. There is a bar yet the mood is more quiet. They have tables are various sizes from 2-10 people. They also have a private "family" room for larger groups. My new favorite restaurant!"

  • "Love this restaurant. Great atmosphere, wonderful fresh food. The pretzels are now mandatory when we visit. We have dined here a dozen times or so and have never had a less then delicious meal. Love the broiled fish and chips, pulled pork, and mussels are to die for. Save room for dessert, as you wil be tempted by the dessert table you pass by when you are being seated. Just a thought, being the pretzel lover that I am. Dessert pretzel option would be yummy, with Carmel, chocolate, or cinnamon sugar dips or toppings! YUMMY."

Lots of lobster but the mac and cheese was mediocre - also lacking in taste. The appetizers, chicken wings and spare ribs were both delicious. For the price, for us, not a winner."

  • "We had dinner at the Hinesburg Public House before going to a play at CVU High School. It was pretty busy, but our service was very prompt. The menu is varied, and our two kids (middle school & high school) found something that they like. The food was uniformly very good. The beer selection is excellent. Its on the pricey side for a pub, with entrees starting at $15 and going up to the high twenties, but the food is good."
