Went for community supper on first
Tuesday and had a great 4 course meal! Small portions but for $20 it cannot be beat!"
Dined on 3/4/2014
We are lucky to have such a great
community restaurant in our town. The food is consistent, with options for everyone including vegetarian and seafood and local beef. The service is outstanding -- friendly, crisp, and the owners are often working along with the staff. Sunday night music (jazz, so far) is a nice change, and makes for a relaxing night out. A great value - highly recommend it."
Dined on 3/4/2014
A great spot for an early evening
out with friends for some delicious food, lovely wine and wonderful jazz. A nice mix of customers and the staff is attentive without being pushy. Perfect way to ease into a Monday."
Dined on 3/2/2014
The staff was friendly and made
grabbing a quick supper fun. The Maple sweet potato chipotle soup was tasty, but I couldn't really notice any smoky chipotle pepper flavor to it. My pulled pork sandwich had a tangy barbeque sauce and was very tasty. I didn't try it, but hear the salmon is very good. Will definitely stop bay again if I am in the area."
Dined on 3/1/2014
the french frys weren't crisp.
Everyone was very welcoming, service great, good wine. I had the baked haddock and that was good but I like a crispy fry and none of ours were. We also had the wings as an appetizer and they were great. It was a nice evening."
Dined on 2/22/2014
I had the pulled pork sandwich and
it was delicious. I gave my husband a taste and he liked it so much he ordered one to go, so he could have it the next day. Good choice of local beers on tap."
Dined on 2/22/2014
Love this restaurant! Amazing food
as always and you can't beat live jazz on a Sunday evening!"
Dined on 2/16/2014
My husband and I dined at The
Public House last Sunday evening, and were delighted to find several local jazz musicians "jamming"--all talented in their own right. Even better to hear was these sessions come together every Sunday! We enjoyed the fish and chips, and a salmon burger, both served quite promptly. The Public House is so congenial, we always leave feeling very positive about the community we live in."
Dined on 2/16/2014
We came to Public House for the
second time to celebrate Valentine's Day. Once again the food was fabulous and service was wonderful. The noise level is a little high but otherwise a great experience."
Dined on 2/14/2014
Nice experience, but: do a better
job clearing the parking lot after a snowfall. It's quite messy to drive and walk in. Service was great and food was mostly good: potatoes with beef wellington were under-cooked and the pita served with the hummus is way to stiff/hard and tasteless."
Dined on 2/14/2014
LOVE the veg and vegan options. We
dine there often and we always feel so welcome."
Dined on 2/10/2014
This was our first time eating
here. The staff, chefs, and food were fantastic! We will definitely come again!"
Dined on 1/31/2014
We've now eaten at this eatery
four times and all of them have been less than good. This particular time my risotto tasted like glue and it was incredibly overpriced. I'm sorry to have given this place a bad review. We live in Hinesburg and would love to have a reasonably good restaurant we can go to often. Unfortunately we won't be returning to this one."
Dined on 1/25/2014
We have been several times and
most of the time the food is sooo good!! This time was no exception!! Love the food!"
Dined on 1/15/2014
TERRIBLE service (more than 1 hr
wait in a half-full restaurant to place an order). When I approached the front desk, things improved and the front desk staff took over, took our order and rushed our food through. The food was good (we had the hummus and fried perch for appetizers; then steak and frites, and mussels as mains), the woman at the front desk worked marvels to try to make up for the wait staff, but the wait staff were HOPELESS. They were downright rude and said I should have chased them! A shame: truly the WORST service experienced at any restaurant anywhere in the world, simply because it was non-existent. So... good food, nice owner, great jazz on Sundays, fabulous front desk, all ruined by TRULY TERRIBLE waiter/waitresses."

It is nice to have a clean and
upper scaled atmosphere in Hinesburg. The space is comfortable when meeting groups of friends. However, the food is just okay. For example, the beet salad had about 3 beet pieces in it. And the salmon was overcooked."
Dined on 1/7/2014
Not much choice for vegetarians or
those likening whole grains. Very heavy on Mexican type hot spices. How bout some Indian style curries, creative veggie soups, stews, egg dishes. My bean burger was burnt. Server not accommodating at all. My husband's scallops however were delicious he reports. We love the idea of the Public house and will return. Just hope to be able to enjoy the food more."
Dined on 12/27/2013
Food was great, the waiter was
attentive without hovering. The chef came by the table and chatted for a moment. We were treated to a complimentary "anniversary" Creme Brulee for two that was outstanding!!!! The drinks (while probably not a problem for most people) were VERY strong. I ordered a hot apple toddy and couldn't drink it-----so that was $8.00 wasted----it was even too strong for my husband----and he will drink most anything!!! The menu has a good selection, albeit a little pricey. It's not a restaurant that I will go to weekly, but certainly one that I will return to on special occasions."
Dined on 12/23/2013
The Hinesburgh Public House is a
worthy destination restaurant! The food is fresh, selections and choice excellent, quality top-notch and the service quick and caring."
Dined on 12/14/2013
As always, the Pub House was warm
and friendly. The lobster mac & cheese was hot and delicious (and what a bargain!). Love it so much we became shareholders."
Dined on 12/12/2013
This restaurant is a gem hidden
away in Hinesburg, yet easy to get to. The food is locally grown and always delicious. The staff is outstanding! The waitstaff are very knowledgable of the menu, and willing to make a recommendation. They are always friendly and all do a wonderful job. The chef has come out several times to check with patrons on how their food was prepared. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. There is a bar yet the mood is more quiet. They have tables are various sizes from 2-10 people. They also have a private "family" room for larger groups. My new favorite restaurant!"
Dined on 12/7/2013
We pass by the Public House every
weekday. Takes lots of self control to keep from stopping in each day. Love this place."
Dined on 12/3/2013
Chef Sean's presence in the dining
room as well as the kitchen is a great asset!"
Dined on 12/6/2013
Love this restaurant. Great
atmosphere, wonderful fresh food. The pretzels are now mandatory when we visit. We have dined here a dozen times or so and have never had a less then delicious meal. Love the broiled fish and chips, pulled pork, and mussels are to die for. Save room for dessert, as you wil be tempted by the dessert table you pass by when you are being seated. Just a thought, being the pretzel lover that I am. Dessert pretzel option would be yummy, with Carmel, chocolate, or cinnamon sugar dips or toppings! YUMMY."
Dined on 11/2/2013
Unfortunately - not great food. I
had the scallops. Not much taste. The vegetable side dish however was excellent. My wife got the lobster mac & cheese. Lots of lobster but the mac and cheese was mediocre - also lacking in taste. The appetizers, chicken wings and spare ribs were both delicious. For the price, for us, not a winner."
Dined on 10/30/2013
Four of us had dinner and had
another great experience. The menu provides a nice mix of options and the beer list is full of Vermont brews. I had the lobster mac and cheese and the other folks had burgers. It was all great!"
Dined on 10/30/2013
We had dinner at the Hinesburg
Public House before going to a play at CVU High School. It was pretty busy, but our service was very prompt. The menu is varied, and our two kids (middle school & high school) found something that they like. The food was uniformly very good. The beer selection is excellent. Its on the pricey side for a pub, with entrees starting at $15 and going up to the high twenties, but the food is good."

This was our first time here for
my birthday and I was such a gift! I adored or server, Nick. He was friendly, honestly knowledgeable, and overall attentive. I adored the menu and can't wait to go back, I adored the chef who came out to ask how everything was, I adored the atmosphere, I just loved it there. It's also competitively priced, has a great beer list and easy parking. I sent my brother and his girlfriend there the next night for their "anniversary!""

Not many people realize that "pub"
is derived from the more archaic "public house". The Hinesburgh Public House is much more than a "pub", however. It was kid friendly, with an amazing kids' menu that blows away the typical "spaghetti, chicken fingers, mini burgers" menu that you find elsewhere. The spicing is delicate without being bland. The only thing negative is that some might find a dish that is too salty, but I didn't mind it. This is definitely the kind of place where you NEED to taste your dishes before choosing to add your own condiments. The porcini-mushroom gravy poutine was outrageous!"

Presented with a kid-free Saturday
night, my husband and I decided to try here. We were pleased to be seated right away, and the menu presented lots of delicious choices. The food was good to great, but the service was a little sub-par with many mistakes through out the evening. I give it an overall mixed review as I really think better service would have made the evening a lot better."

Great restaurant, 10 minutes from
Burlington. Great selection and good service."
Dined on 9/29/2013
Although it's great to have folks
from neighboring towns visit "our" restaurant, what I like most about the Public House is the fact that it's a real community gathering spot. The food and drinks are affordable, the atmosphere is casual, everyone feels welcome."
Dined on 10/1/2013
Went to Hinesburgh Public House to
support a fundraiser by ordering the "Community Dinner" where half the meal cost was donated to a local non-profit organization. These Community Dinners are a regular monthly occurrence. What a great way to give back to the community."
Dined on 10/2/2013
my dinner was not cooked to
specification so my partner was finished his entrée before I got mine back cooked appropriately. Waitress was missing for a good ten minutes before I was able to flag someone down to explain the problem with my meal. Overall the ambiance was okay and the experience was okay but I would not recommend this place due to the expense."
Dined on 9/28/2013
Great regular menu, but the
specials are especially great. They have a smoker on premises and it often inspires amazing entrees."
Dined on 9/21/2013
Relatively new restaurant and
pleasantly surprised at how well dinner was. Our waitress was very good and extremely friendly! Food was delicious and great selection of microbrews."
Dined on 9/14/2013
First impressions are important.
We waited over 15 minutes watching other tables who came in after us get served before asking the hostess if waitstaff were assigned to our table. Good response by management to our concerns. Waitress who was assigned was delightful. Restaurant has a very modern country charm which we enjoyed, but service issues were hard to ignore. Poor choice for family dinner with young kids. Kids menu is very limited and even adults felt the kids mac and cheese had no flavor. Adult meals were good. I would return to try other items on the menu, but likely not with my kids."
Dined on 9/8/2013
Be sure to check this restaurant
out - the food is fantastic - I do recommend the fish & chips - not fried and the seasoning was so tasty. Waiter attentive, owners friendly."
Dined on 9/6/2013
This was our first visit to the
Hinesburgh Public House after hearing rave reviews from friends. They were right! The menu was an interesting mix of traditional and exciting new dishes, with many of the ingredients being local. I had locally foraged black trumpet mushrooms in my vegetarian dish and it was fabulous. The local bakers make an awesome triple layer chocolate cake. Nice wine selection and not your ho-hum draught beer list. The atmosphere is casual and open, even so, we enjoyed a romantic dinner for two for my husband's birthday. Lastly, but certainly not least, our server was very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Great service is not common these days. Go, explore new food or enjoy a favorite, and enjoy!"

Attractive ambiance with a country
flavor, good service, and good food."
