Diner Reviews
  • "We had company from out of town and so decided to dine at Hillside Bistro. We all found the ambience to be really great. It was casual, friendly but upscale. I have eaten here many times over the years and always enjoyed it. Our server was very polite and professional. The food was really tasty over all, with good presentation. The prices are a little high and there is a limited selection of food items, but considering the beautiful location and over all experience, we didn't complain. We'll probably go again next summer."

  • "We always take our visitors to Hillside for lunch and some wine"

  • "Dinner was nice although we wish we could have paid the same price for wine with dinner as you could buy in the shop downstairs."

  • "Whether lunch or dinner, Hillside offers spectacular views of Lake Okanagan with sparkling blue water sprinkled with sail boats drifting by. This is dining al fresco at its finest. And anyone who appreciates a beautiful garden will fall in love with the gardens leading up the bistro not to mention the tasting room full of wonderful wines!"

  • "My girlfriend and I went for dinner here and we loved the food and the service and of course the view. Our server was very friendly, and reasonably attentive. However, we noticed with her and all the other servers, she seemed way too casual for such a fine establishment. Her service style did not match the ambience nor the food. Every time she came over she called us "guys". She was very friendly and attentive, but had a pub style personality and was very bubbly. We felt if she was a little more refined it may add to the ambience and may even help her sales a little. We're very easy going by nature but she just seemed off putting and too casual for a place which I'm sure typically sees a lot of special occasion meals. Overall a good visit."

  • "We were only in Penticton for 4 days; this was the highlight! We have eaten at many fine locations, but this right up there with the best. My only complaint......It is thousands of kilometres from our home."

  • "we reserved a patio seat for my birthday on June 28. What an amazing patio!! wow, fantastic view for sunset! the food was really really interesting and delicious. I had the gnocchi. usually i find the gnocchi gets boring before i finish it. every mouthful the same. not this one. there was more other stuff than actual gnocchi. i was a little worried about the cilantro hazelnut pesto (not liking hazelnuts much) but it just gave the cilanto pesto a really nice texture without a strong taste. the hubby had the steak, he said it wasn't the most awesome steak ever but seasoned and cooked well. for desert the chef made some kind of frozen basil cream thing that sounded scary but tasted amazing. bad bits? not enough blankets, only one veg choice."

  • "After several great experiences with this terrific winery, we encountered our first disappointment when we chose to spend our anniversary dinner here. We were seated promptly by the hostess. It then took about 20 minutes for our young waitress to come to the table. She apologized and said something about having to take care of the owner who was in for dinner. A half carafe of white wine then came quickly followed by the mussels appetizer which was ok, although the mussels were small. We each ordered a glass of red wine to enjoy with our beef dinners, but our orders came out well before the wine, and both entrees were barely warm. We sent one back and chose to eat the other one anyway. Neither order was memorable."

  • "Pleasantly surprised a winery put as much effort into a culinary experience as they do wine. Delicious entrees well presented and prepared served hot. Beautiful scenery especially at dusk and sunset. Make sure to climb tower to take in the view."

  • "Went with my mom for a special dinner. I had the mussels and she had the scallops to start. They were both fantastic. For our mains I had the flank style steak and my mother had the special which was a braised pork rib. She throughly enjoyed hers, I was however not so impressed. I had expressed to our server to let the chef know to cook the steak how her thought it would be most enjoyable, as flank steak can be very tuff. I was please when she suggested med-mr however was not so pleased when the steak came back chewy and tuff. Other then that the experience was great. Our server was wonderfully polite and the wine, excellent! "

  • "Dropped in for evening dinner, I ordered the ribs, they were outstanding, the home made baked beens were so salty I could not eat them. My wife ordered the trout and it was excellent as well. It was topped off with an excellent gelato. We would come back but substitute the beans."

  • "I visited Hillside Winery this Easter weekend and it was wonderful, as always. My friend and I went with the intention of having a glass of wine after a walk on the KVR trail, but as it turned out we ended up staying for salad, soup, and the mussels in Tom Yum broth so we could soak up the sunshine on the patio. We sipped on a few glasses of the newly released Gewurtztraminer (yum!) and THEN we got talked into staying for dessert because we were told by our server, Trish, that the port was worth savoring by the fire. Her recommendations were spot on. The Dark Chocolate Cherry Mousse paired perfectly with the port and the fireplace. We'll definitely be back. "

  • "This bistro is great in so many ways. The food was great. We enjoyed a nice selection of cheese and fruit as an appy. That accompanied a neat little wine flight,we got to choose 3 different wines 3 oz each. Very cool option. The mussels here were to die for. My downfall is that even though we made reservations ( on this site) I don't think the resturant received them as there was no table ready for us and we ended up siting outside. It was a nice patio with a beautiful view but was a bit cold outside and the patio heaters were out of propane. At least they offered blankets. The service was a bit slow but the food was great so we will try this one out again. "

  • "Our evening at Hillside was just perfect. We celebrated a birthday. The food and service could not have been better. We all ordered different meals and everyone of us considered their meal to be especially good. All the plates were nicely presented and the service was very attentive and pleasent. We often bike on the KVR to Hillside for an outdoor lunch. Again, these excursions have always been enjoyable."

  • "Our welcome at Hillside was was warm, the fire welcome in early spring as the sun shone brightly off the lake just below. Chef Rob Cordonier and his team hold nothing back; both visual presentations and flavours to die for. Great menu, take your pick, we sampled five plates of amazing food, my highlights? the melt in the mouth roasted scallops, and the lemon pudding cake paired with late harvest Kerner. We will be back, and we will take friends."

  • "We prefer red wine. The Cabernet franc asrecommended is simply superb!"

  • "The Naramata Bench is a special place for vineyards, boutique wineries and spectacular scenery. But it is very short of good restaurants. We found only two for dinner and one for lunch that we would go back to, and it doesn't get much better in nearby Penticton. Consequently, we went back to the Hillside Bistro twice in a 4 night stay. The ambience is so-so, but someone in the kitchen has talent and the servers are good."

  • "This was the second time we dined at Hillside. Two shared the 'Dinner for 2' and two the 'Octoberfest' plate. WOW! The choices on the 'for 2' were amazing...the carrot and apple soup was a spectacular appie, and the salad full of fruit, seeds and feta! Yummy! The Risotto was creamy, savory and topped with and array of fresh herbs seasonal yellow and orange beets! The savory german plate was filled with...what else...savory samples of pork accompanied by small spatleze. Our paired wine choices complimented each dish to perfection. We were the last guests to leave but never felt rushed, or pushed! Our server was attentive, informative, and intuitive! We will definitely keep this gourmet lovers mecca on our itinerary next time we visit! Bravo!"

  • "We had a great evening and meal at Hillside. We went on a Tuesday and discovered the " 2 for $ 50" special. The staff was outstanding and the made the occasion truly "special""

  • "We went with friends for a light dinner on Sunday night. Everything about the night was better than we expected. The wine list is short but the Cabernet Franc was perfect for our meals. We would definitely go again and we would recommend Hillside to our friends"

  • "We ate supper on a Friday night at HillSide and were extremely pleased with the service and especially the food. The pork my wife ordered was the most tender pork we had either experienced and both meals were very delicious and appealing to both the eye and the palate. Staff were very gracious and friendly, service was great. All in all, a great dining out experience. Would definitely go back again."

  • "Definitely a go-to winery bistro while touring wineries on Naramata Bench."

  • "We recently dined and wined at the Bistro. It does have a magnificent view of the lake and vineyards. The food (trout, very moist and tender, hamburger, delicious and juicy) were both well enjoyed. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wines and suggested we try the tasting sampler of 4 different wines for $5 per person. This was such a good idea when you are trying to sample different wines. The best part was that there was no charge for the sampler as we purchased a bottle of wine to take with us."

  • "We love the Naramata Bench and Hillside Estate Winery Bistro is one of our favourites for dining when we're in the area - lunch and dinner. So much better under the current management, current winemaker and current chef. Food is delicious and creative - focusing on local producers. Wines are excellent and expertly matched with the dishes. Servers very knowledgeable. Great surroundings day and night. Dined on the upper deck for the first time before the winds and thunderstorms moved in early the next morning. A very nice experience all round."

  • "Wonderful day to have dinner on the upper deck , perfect temp , not windy & a clear view of Lake Okanagan. Had the best rainbow trout I have ever had & some vegetables I had never had [ I always like to try new food] ."

  • "The views at Hillside are amazing (like all winery restaurants), but the food and wine offerings made the night spectacular. Hillside also has the most liberal wine pours by the glass I've ever seen (no complaints). Service was fantastic as they were kind enough to help us move tables to a better spot on the patio. Great place to end a day of wine tastings."

  • "We had dinner twice and lunch once here while wine tasting/buying on the Naramata wine trail. All of our meals were delicious and were accompanied by wine pairings from the vineyard. Great views from the upper patio and excellent food in a quiet country setting."

  • "Had a very good meal at the Hillside Estate Winery after purchasing a bottle of wine in the store. The thick-cut halibut that was a special item (not on the menu) was grilled to perfection. crusty outside and tender inside. accompanied with ravioli. and a salad side. Delicious."

  • "We selected this winery bistro based on internet reviews, and they did not lead us astray! All four of us tried something different and each was delicious. Particularly enjoyed the falafel! Very neat artwork as well."

  • "if you can sit on their upstairs patio you can enjoy a fabulous view too! Had the Pork Belly with wild mushroom Gnocchi and kudos to the chef! It was perfection! We have been to this restaurant a few times. The atmosphere inside is very rustic but eating outside on the lower patio is pretty. The top patio is where you want to be for the view but doesn't always seem to be open. Overall I would say this is one, if not the best, spot to eat on the Naramata Bench and Penticton Area."
