Hillbilly TeaInterestingGiven the vegan choices, this place might should be renamed "Hippy Hollow Tea" (tongue in cheek). I found some flavors in my food that I wouldn't expect - in a good way. Was visiting from out of town and this was highly recommended. Didn't disappoint. However, a more encompassing menu would be good.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFun eveningSecond time to dine at Hillbilly Tea and both experiences were very positive. I appreciate the enthusiam and overall knowledge of the servers. I especially love the non-rushed atmosphere. It is very relaxed and each course can be enjoyed on it's own merits. Menu is unique and the food very delicious. I would definitely pass the good word on to my friends!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMall your pancakes are belong to usExcellent food, service, and atmosphere. I would like to come back and try the dinner menu.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day HitI took my mom to Hillbilly Tea last year for Mother's Day and she loved it so much she asked to go again for 2013. Our second dining experience was even better than the first and I didn't think that was possible! We absolutely love this place!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu was varied and hadThe menu was varied and had something to please everyone. Quirky drinking glasses, mismatched flatware and the rough tables made the dining experience nice.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, terrific atmosphereGreat brunch with wonderful service. Learn more than you thought possible about teas. Scrabble was outstanding and wife loved her cream of wheat pancakes.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!Best meal, service, & ambiance of a restaurant that I have rated in a long time. I stopped in for my Mom's 78th birthday and the owner treated us like family. Fantastic evening. The decor is wonderful! Country farm charm, down to the smallest details. Clean. Fun wait staff, the are making a music CD together. We had the Lamb shank, Marinated Catfish, Duck confit, Road Stew, & Bread pudding all were fantastic. Best bread pudding ever, by the way. Have fun.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointsI have been to Hillbilly Tea on several occasions and have always been pleased with my experience.
The food is consistently good and the service is consistently awesome. Friday's crowd was celebrating Oaks Day in style and the staff didn't miss a beat - loved the energy and ambience!
The menu selection was different (it was the brunch rather than the lunch menu) and a favorite item (the "tea party") was missing. The waiter and kitchen staff happily made accommodations for my daughters and they weren't disappointed with their Oaks Day tea party.
Thanks again for a lovely time, Hillbilly Tea!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service wereThe food and service were exceptional. This place is a gem!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMsuccessMy friends went for my best friends bachelorette dinner. wait staff was friendly. it was not crowded. each person only spent about $10, so it wasn't too pricey. the larger dinners were more expensive. great atmosphere, laid back and like going to a friends house for dinner.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is always good. Absolutely loved the bourbon bread puffing with toasted marshmallow topping!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Hillbilly brew was theThe Hillbilly brew was the best coffee, not too strong but bold. The cream o' wheat pancakes had a wonderful light taste. Our server was great at answering our ? about the many diffrent items on the mnue.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMInventive food: I had a roastedInventive food: I had a roasted lamb shank on succotash, the succotash was corn mixed with a type of pea or bean I had never tasted before (it wasn't a lima bean) and it was excellent. Portions are judicious, not huge but not itty bitty. Tried the corn pone on the side (excellent) and had bean fritters as an appetizer. Enjoyed a jar of prosecco to start the meal, wine list is abbreviated but of good quailty. Service was excellent even though they were busy. Ended the meal with their Chamomile tea; I am a tea snob and it was one of the best I have ever tasted, I bought some on my way out. I hope to go back for brunch when I can try their caffeinated teas. Dining companion had a bourbon based drink and she was delighted. A true local gem.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible foodHillbilly Tea is my favorite restaurant in town! They have excellent food and everything is so good you'll want to try it all!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA meal to savor! We went for brunch and had a wonderful dining experience. The food and service was excellent. We had time to savor our tea choices before enjoying our wonderful meal. Our server was very informative and helpful while we made our choices. We didn't feel rushed which contributed nicely to our relaxed, enjoyable, Sunday brunch. I highly recommend Hillbilly Tea.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways an amazing Sunday brunchAlways an amazing Sunday brunch - unique (delicious) twist to everyday foods.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMQuaint casual dining. MatureQuaint casual dining. Mature menu that features rabbit. Martinis and stews served in tea cups. Portions are hearty and food is delicious.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMadorable, quaint resturantadorable, quaint resturant just off the beaten path downtown. Fun "hillbilly" decor! I loved that the moonshine & hot tea was served on log rounds cut from trees and the napkins were held together by clothes pins!! That was so inventive!! The food was amazing- I was a bit overwhelmed because I could not decide on what to eat but our waitress had several recommendations-- I had the tofu burger and it was BY FAR the most amazing burger I had- I couldnt even tell it was tofu!! No weird textures! I was highly impressed! Easy access from street parking or parking garage across the way.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place was a hoot. VeryThis place was a hoot. Very different and interesting. Menu is off the charts. Dinner menu does not start until 5pm.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMI hate tea so I was reluctantI hate tea so I was reluctant to go to a restaurant with tea in its name but am I ever glad I did go. The food is to die for.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMMy party of five very muchMy party of five very much enjoyed Hillbilly Tea and all agreed we'd be going back again. The server was charming, the food was good, the prices reasonable. Portions are reasonable in size and served on plates like those you have at home instead of huge platters. My husband said that it was food that you might get at at friend's house (if the friend was a good cook). We had a very good experience.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGrandma Brown's sweet teaGrandma Brown's sweet tea was the best drink of the evening. Our table tried the Hillbilly Sour, Shirley Moon and Oh, Sweet Daddy all were good, but Grandma Brown's was the best. The bread and honey butter that was served first was very tasty. The bread was grilled and the honey butter had just the right amount of honey for sweetness. For the table we ordered the deviled egg trio which was interesting. The tea dusts masked the flavor of the deviled eggs which was a little disappointing. The tofu burger and the grilled flank steak were served as listed in the menu. Both were very tasty, but the highlight of the two was the sweet potato casserole. This was not the mashed version. Potatoes were layered with onions and tasted grilled.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMHillbilly tea lived up toHillbilly tea lived up to its great reviews! Every single dish we ordered was extrordinary and delish! Our waiter was terrific and was even dubbed "Genious of tea" by our daughter because he was so well informed! The motif down to the cups and silverware gave it a great hillbilly ambiance. A very fun, enjoyable, delicious experience!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative menu, hip atmosphere,Creative menu, hip atmosphere, outstanding service.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGood but one problem. While our overall experience was good, there was an issue that bothered me. Several people in our group ordered pork tenderloin that was supposed to come with potatoes. Instead mashed parsnips came. I ordered catfish that supposed to be on a bed of mashed cauliflower. Instead I was served mashed potatoes. These substitutions were made without notifying us. I am avoiding all potatoes so I was looking forward to the cauliflower. If substitutions are made, diners need to be told when ordering.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
