Diner Reviews
  • "As I am in the area for business, this restaurant was highly recommended. I came with a coworker and we needed separate checks. When we were seated, we explained our request. Our server gave us a hard time and made us feel like we were creating extra work for him. After our wonderful meal was served, he did not come back and ask us if we needed anything else. No dessert menu was offered. We waited 25 mins. for our checks and finally asked for the manager. He was very nice, took our checks and offered us a free dessert (which we declined.) I am very upset with our server and felt he neglected us for other diners! I won't return here. The food, the ambiance, the view was superb! Our server hasn't found his calling!!"

  • "Took my girlfriend here not expecting it to be as upscale as it was, only read reviews and such about Highlawn Pavilion on google. This is probably the nicest, most unique and satisfying experience i've ever had the pleasure of going on in terms of scenery, food, service, etc. I have never really done reviews before of restaurants or dining experiences but this establishment was so fine and the service was so good that I am actually taking time to write this review for you and will be giving positive feedback to others and online. Thank you for a wonderful experience, you will most certainly be seeing me in the future. Thank you guys for taking pride in your establishment and having people who work there really care and enjoy it."

  • "The best in this area. If you are dining in the Clifton-Patterson-Orange area of NJ, this is the place to go."

  • "This restaurant has great, unrivalled views of the NYC skyline. It is perfect for a special occasion. The wine list is extensive and suitable for any wine lover! The steak and seafood is excellent but I recommend avoiding the pasta which is sub-par and not as good as the steak or seafood dishes offered."

  • "We've been to Highlawn Pavillion before, but it never disappoints. The view, of course, is spectacular. It's our go to restaurant for out-of-town guests for that reason, but also because we will never be embarrassed by the service or food which is comparable to the best NYC restaurants. Treat yourself if you've never been and make a reservation. Go again if its been awhile since you indulged yourself."

  • "I am always pleased with all aspects of the Highlawn, and this last visit just further reinforced that. Our waiter, Pedro was very professional, yet friendly. The food was top notch - the watermelon gazpacho incredible, the baby greens salad, yum, our entrees and dessert, all amazing."

  • "Always loved when Mitchell cooked but this was lunch. Thought menu was limited. Service was superb. Dessert outstanding. Appreciated when young women came dressed inappropriately was moved to terrace."

  • "Highly competent food in a dramatic space with great view, although the service and the prices draw down the overall experience a bit....."

  • "My husband surprised me and picked Highlawn Pavillion since it was a very special place with magnificent views, very romantic, outstanding service, and of course delicious food!!! The weather was also perfect for us to enjoy the grounds as well "a perfect evening""

  • "I only wish the menu was more expansive to include pastas or a few fish items and the same with the dessert menu , Consider offering traditional crowd pleasers like chocolate mousse not some goofy banana mousse. The place is beautiful romantic yet they could do Souch more with their menu"

  • "The Highlawn Pavilion has a reputation as a place to go for celebrations. The view of NYC is lovely & the food is good. However, the service and cleanliness are poor.. Flies were zipping around our table & the ladies room was filthy. As I was eating my appetizer, the bus boy came over & said "Are you still working on it". Since I had food in my mouth I just nodded. Then he reappeared soon after & said "Are you done YET". At this point, I turned to him and said no I was still eating which I was. The waiter wasn't much better. He grabbed the wine glass as I put it down even though there was a sip left! We were not dawdling & there were at least 4 empty tables near us so I am not sure why they felt it was necessary to rush us."

  • "Highlawn Pavilion has a million dollar view of NYC. the restaurant and bar are extremely impressive as is the food. The waiters are very helpful on choices. Don't miss the sea food tower it is a must. If you don't like an item they will replace it in the tower. Menu is somewhat limited, surprisingly, for such a highly rated restaurant. Filet Mignon is better than the sirloin "specials". For dessert the ice cream in almond bird cage with chocolate sauce is decadent. At bit pricey $ 200-250 per couple with one drink but worth it. Valet guys were only not up to par, again surprisingly, thought I parked at a low end lot in NYC no running to open car doors etc. and fro a $10 tip yu would expect more"

  • "Their motto is,"Scenic dining" and that's exactly what it is as it is not fine dining. The server was rude and intrusive in our conversation and poured the water through us instead of around us. We could hear everyone's conversations too well but the manager still asked us to turn off our cellphone when playing mood music at my a low volume stating that,"they have their own music and didn't need ours." Another patron must have complained about it and since it was Indian music, it didn't meet their criteria. Do not go unless you are White or elderly as we felt very segregated. The glass to look out of is high glare so you see yourself and everyone else in the reflection instead of the skyline. The brandy was good though. The end."

  • "I do not ask the waiter to be available instantaneously, but the amount of time to wait for around for additional clarification on the evening's specials is too long. The service of the evening deteriorates as soon as we notified the waiter that no wine will be ordered for the evening. Food is fine; nothing shocking, no surprises. Did not recall the waiter ever come by to ask if everything was ok during the main course. Before dessert, the busboy almost knocked my nose off when going through the table with the crumber."

  • "We have gone here for our anniversary the last 2 years and have been blown away both times. It is expensive ($50-60 per person) but it is nice to go once in a while."

  • "Had not eaten here in a while; the food was better than expected. Service, though, could have been a bit better. They seemed to have been understaffed. A little slow."

  • "For the first time in decades, I was disappointed with the level of service we received. Stood around waiting for someone to greet us, had to ask the bartender in the other room to help us find someone, and then the waiter came over and sat us without uttering a word!!! No welcome or greeting of any kind, just a shurg that apparently meant we should follow him. The service went downhill from there. VERY VERY disappointed with this experience. "

  • "Lovely place, service was a tad slow but it was probably perfect for a couple who isn't always on the go. The seafood appetizers were delish but my salmon entree was a little bland. I have been in a flavor kick so anything less flavorful isn't as appealing to me these days. The cut was cooked to perfection however. My husband ordered the filet which he loved. The chocolate voila had a fun caving in presentation which my husband enjoyed mostly. I am sensitive to anything artificial tasting and so I let him have most of it. He loves banana and chocolate together. It is def a classy place where the view is serene and you feel catered to. "

  • "My husband and I came here for our wedding anniversary. We were given a very nice table in a room with great skyline views. Everything was wonderful and we had a great time. The only less-than-average note was that I had ordered my steak medium-well and it was served well done. It was still juicy and delicious so I didn't send it back, but other than that everything was really enjoyable. We plan to return to this lovely restaurant."

  • "The view is spectacular, the service impeccable and the food incredible! The Highlawn Pavilion is one of the few remaining high-end restaurants that lives up to every expectation. We have been going for years and would recommend to anyone looking for an extra special evening."

  • "It was a special occasion and asked the maître'd for a special table. Had a drink at the bar which is very upscale and has an impressive inventory of single malt scotches. The maître'd came to us at the bar and said our special table was ready and it WAS a special table with a spectacular view with the sun setting over New York City. Service was impeccable. Waiter Lucas made some suggestions. We had Black Bass Ceviche and Burrata Cheese as appetizers and Chatham Cod and Veal Osso Buco as entrees and split a Pecan Gateau for dessert. The myriad of tastes was awesome. Unlike the wine list, the dining choices are somewhat limited but it would be hard to find a complaint about any food ordered from the menu."

  • "My mom, aunt and I went to the Highlawn Pavilion after graduation on Saturday. I made reservations the night before and I am thankful I did. We had an 8:30 reservation but did not get sat until after 9. However, the food was worth the wait! I had grilled octopus as the appetizer. I wish it was on the main menu! For dinner I had the Dorade! It looked beautiful and tasted even better. Our server was excellent. He was just attentive enough for us, he came back right as he was needed. He was very funny and took an interest in all of his customers. He went out of his way to make sure we had an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend the Highlawn Pavilion and look forward to returning."
