Rumor has it that this was the very last night for the Highland's Garden. Please say it isn't so!!! :-( Tonight was just as great as it always is and expected. Duck tamales were superb along with the Duck entrée and the Halibut was to die for. Don't make this my "last supper".

Highland's Garden Cafe is one of the hidden gems in the Mile High City. The food is spectacular - the paella, for example, provided two substantial flavorful bursts full of huge amounts of seafood - and the wine list is extremely good. But the real joy is the seasonal outdoor patio setting, which is beautiful and romantic and allows for a lovely evening. Highly recommended.

The menu was incredible, I wanted to order 10 different things. The gardens gorgeous and server Erin was great. However execution was not good at all. A friend who has been there many times said it was the worst food she's ever had. Both swordfish and salmon were overcooked, the beet salad was seasoned poorly and the chicken that had the cheese inside, the cheese hadnt really melted. It wasnt that busy so that couldnt be the reason. Has the restaurant been recently sold or have they hired a new chef? I had never eaten there before and had always wanted to but it would be tough to justify going back.

Sat outside on the patio and despite threats of rain, it stayed away until after the check arrived. Service was delightful. Food was excellent. I was thrilled to see vichysoisse on the menu. The tuna was cooked perfectly. It was just one of many great meals I've had here since 1995. I hope their closing at the end of the month is only temporary.

As my wife and I dined on duck and cioppino, we talked about the setting... Was it like Old Quebec City, Monterey, or a mountain hideaway? Beautiful gardens, enjoyable food, quiet, attentive service, and a bottle of wine. What's not to love? This was our first visit to Highland's Garden Cafe- it won't be our last.

it's hidden away, disguised as a home. turns out to be several homes with wonderful garden patio dining. the trees overhang and lighting is perfect. the food, outstanding. it is not for the incredibly hungry. the menu consists of fresh salads, salads with meats, entres and lite appetizers. the halibut was soooo good, I mean good, awesome. the desserts were ok. that was the only thing that could use I,proving. I was totally impressed and happy when we left.

Even though the rain forced us indoors the time we spent in the garden was lovely. The wait staff was great. We thought the food was overprice for just being average. We tried the Ahi Entree, Scallpos Entree, and Nicose Salad. No one was over the moon.

The staff had learned that it was our anniversary and went out of their way to make the evening special. Since the weather was not cooperating, we were seated at the best table in the house with open doors to the garden....we could enjoy the garden scenery and still stay dry! The food was excellent and so was the service...just enough to be helpful but not overbearing. We even learned some history of the two homes.

The paella was to die for, the caramelized ice cream & brownie topped it all, the wine pairing recommended was perfect & such excellent service (very solicituous but not obtrusive) . The garden was so serene & beautiful. But alas, rain & thunder had us scurrying inside where everything was just as "homey" & relaxing..

The food is exceptional and the service is excellent. I enjoy reading the daily menu and wrestling with my decision. These folks have been doing this for a very long time because people keep coming. I always enjoy myself and lunch is a wonderful deal. Highland has grown expensive; this place has retained it's value.

We had a beautiful lunch the other day. The restaurant was not crowded at all, but service was a little slow. I am not sure why, but if you are on a lunch hour, this would not be the place to go unfortunatley. The food was great and the server was lovely. Dessert to die for.

    Dined on 7/20/2013
We have been here many times but it's been over a year since our last visit. Such a beautiful spot - the gardens are really lovely. Our goat cheese quesadilla appetizer was bland and uninspired. In contrast, the Super Salad was a delicious blend of tastes and textures. We both ordered fish, which Highland Gardens does exceptionally well and the halibut and bluefish were both cooked to perfection. It wasn't a really busy Saturday night, but we waited for some items longer than we anticipated. Our waiter seemed to be having a physically difficult night, so we attributed it to that. Overall, a good to great dining experience.

We enjoy eating outside and a friend recommended Highland's Garden Café for its multiple outside eating areas and good food. We went for my birthday on a hot summer evening but felt quite comfortable in the shade of the home next door. The service was friendly and they came by several times to refill our drinking glasses but weren't intrusive. The food was delicious and quite pricey but it was a special occasion and they should get some compensation for knowing which flavors to put together. :o)

Except for the Greek side salad, the food was bland. My trout tasted healthy, but that was about it. My boyfriend's steak was overdone and far from delicious. We've had much better food for less than half the price elsewhere. There was no special treatment for his birthday or quiet out of the way table, even though I'd mentioned both in the reservation notes.

I was treated on my birthday to a wonderful meal of lamb chops and my friend had the half roasted duck. I could go on and on about the salads, wines and ambience but simply stated, HG is the gem (for me) of Denver and the Highlands neighborhood. A special treat for outside dining in the spring, summer and fall and the winters bring you indoors for that warn cozy feeling of dining in your own home. We've dined at Highland Gardens repeatedly over the years and have never been disappointed. The menu selections are imaginative and well presented. The accompaniments at each course show evidence of real caring and studied preparation. The setting of the restaurant with its outdoor garden seating and indoor intimate dining rooms combine to add to the dining experience. The only small negative is the very limited wine selection. On the plus side in that respect is the few wines on their menu are moderately priced and for the most part very acceptable. All in all, Highland Gardens Cafe is a winner.

The food at Highland's Garden has always been outstanding, (especially the trout and peach soup) but this time I got the chicken pot pie and was disappointed. It was so watery. My friend ordered it as well, and since it was for her birthday, I felt badly that she also found it not too great. I will definitely return, but I will order something else.
