Their whiskey list and their whiskey cocktails are fantastic. I prefer a regular gin & tonic to their cucumber-iced one, but that's the only knock against their otherwise-excellent libations. Food-wise, it was good, but nothing to write home about. I had the haggis, which was decent, and the sage mashed potatoes were great. My bf had some type of white fish which was unremarkable, as you can tell by my inability to remember what it was. I wouldn't go back for the food but for the drinks that accompany it. Brunch may be a better option food-wise.

From the moment we arrived at this charming restaurant located in a quaint part of the West Village, I was delighted to see beautiful purple heather growing in planters outside Highlands. It set the mood for what was to be a delightful dinner experience. The decor is both elegant and cozy and very British. The staff is as efficient and courteous as they are attractive. The food was delicious--we had the crab toast which was so good. The salmon was cooked perfectly and in the right portion size. Great wine and beer selection. We will definitely be returning. Oh I forgot to mention that there is a lovely view from the large glass window of well-kept historic Village townhouses--nice ambiance, great food and service!

It's not often you'll hear someone say, "I'm craving Scottish food this evening." Yet everything about Highlands was absolutely first-rate from start to finish. The oysters were outstandingly fresh and delicious; our entrées beautifully conceived and perfectly cooked; and the desserts were plate-scrapingly good. Add a top-notch list of single malt Scotches and cocktails, attentive but not overbearing service, and a pleasing atmosphere, and you have a memorable dining experience. We'll be back, and soon.

I came here on St Patty's so was a little worried it would be crazy loud for dinner. The bar was very rowdy and fun and they have a separate dining area which was comfy and quiet in comparison. The ambiance is top notch and the beer selection was great (only Scottish beers).
Thank you!!

I went for dinner with my wife before what seemed like the busy times based on other reviews. The place had a nice comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff. I spent a year living in Edinburgh and was looking to reminisce a little. The haggis was good enough and the whisky selection was top notch. I would recommend.

Highlands came highly recommended by some friends who live in NYC for our weekend trip from Toronto. The atmosphere was great, the food was really tasty, but the service was unfortunately absent. Our waiter seemed somewhat disinterested in our party of 4 all evening. Highlights? Finding out there were specials only after overhearing our waiter eloquently present them to a neighbouring table... and only after we had received our mains (seriously). Ordered a bottle of wine with dinner, and it arrived well after our meals. Ordered tea with dessert, and had to keep asking for it. Finally asked one of the people clearing tables if he could check on it (he of course had the situation rectified immediately). The food saved the day. Barely.

I'm of two minds about this place. Firstly, it is Scottish, so I was looking forward to trying some single malts that I hadn't tried before. However after perusing their extensive Scotch menu, my first four choices were a no go as they were out of all of my choices which I found odd. The waitress was professional, but definitely rushed us to order, even when we told her we were going to have a couple rounds first. The place is hopping, but if you are there to catch up with an old friend as I was, I would go somewhere else, as the noise level was absolutely deafening. The food was good though. And we did have a good time, but there are so many other places to go, I know I won't be back.

Highlands is a charming, neighborhood restaurant. We arrived early (6:30) because we were starving and had our ten-year-old with us. It was a very cold, damp night and we were welcomed immediately by a friendly, nicely dressed staff member. The place was warm and softly lit with a lot of candles. The waiter was great and the food really good. My daughter and I both ordered the lamb shank which was one of the tastiest I've had, the Brussels sprouts were simple but fantastic and my husband couldn't stop eating the side if collard greens with cream and bacon. The only mis-step was the Wild Mushroom Shepherd's Pie which was good, but didn't keep pace with the rest of the meal. We'll definitely go back.

We arrived early and had a drink In the bar area, which was very pleasant. Our server then showed us to our table and was very informative about the menu offered. We had a lovely meal, the haggis was very good as was the beef Wellington. Much to our delight they even had Beaumes de Venise desert wine on the menu! We shall make a return visit.

We were visiting NYC and I found this restaurant on Opentable and was pleasantly surprised. I am glad that I made reservations because it was packed. Mostly because the adjoining bar had lots of happy patrons. It is half restaurant/half bar. I was with my boyfriend and we sampled the sausage rolls, crab toast, risotto and beet salad. We also drank on a Blood and Sand, The MQS, a Rob Roy and a Robert Burns. Delicious stuff.
