Diner Reviews
  • "Have visited High Cotton for lunch on 2 previous occasions and found the menu selections and food quality very good. This was not the case for dinner. Very overpriced and food was undercooked. The view out of the restaurant windows toward the river was beautiful, however the meal experience was less than stellar. We will not revisit High Cotton."

  • "Getting to dine at High Cotton was a great way to cap off a great trip to the Greenville area. The setting was just amazing with the location being on Main St. and overlooking the Reedy River. The food was just what you would expect from a place named High Cotton, and that is nothing short of great. And the service was tremendous! From the hostess to our server they maid you feel welcomed and beyond comfortable. This was the first time my Girlfriend and I had visited Greenville and I would recommend it to everyone. And I would always tell them to make sure and visit High Cotton one night!"

  • "Limited brunch menu. However, our server was attentive and personable. We did not feel rushed - a very nice, leisurely brunch. The grits were delicious. Surprisingly large portions."

  • "I went for brunch with two friends. As soon as we walked in, we noticed the decor and the layout. I love the different views of main from Main Street to the waterfalls. That was our first time there. The food was great, staff was pleasant, and the atmosphere was relaxing. She crab soup A+++ Will be going back."

  • "Wonderful ambience, great view of the river / downtown & main street. Food was of the right portion and caters to every palette though predominantly southern. Good place to take your clients for dinner. Will return"

  • "I took a large group here for a celebratory dinner. The staff were gracious and accommodating even though we were a bit late. Food was excellent and prepared in appropriate portions so getting 2-3 courses was not overwhelming. Wine list good. Noise level is high so be prepared. I was disappointed that we didn't get a table by the window as I requested for some guests from overseas which is beautiful if you do. The water outside provides ambience. Great place to eat and enjoy!"

  • "Had a wonderful dinner Friday night... Weather was dreary food was great! Highly recommend the ox tail app and mussels app... Dinner had to have the pork chop " not usually cooked well when you order out" theirs was very good. Our waiter was awesome and attentive."

  • "We had excellent duck and venison served by a friendly and attentive wait staff and a great view of the scene along the Reedy River. Overall, it was an outstanding experience, as was my previous dinner at High Cotton."

  • "The food was superb, our server was incredible and the view of the river was a great backdrop to a fabulous anniversary dinner. The restaurant's attention to detail made it a great evening. We WILL be back!"

  • "Overall, enjoyed the food very much. The menu seems to keep getting better including the appetizer menu. It reminds me of a movie with a good supporting cast. I enjoy the star performer, but the rest of the cast helps. The salads are very good and the the soups have consistently been very enjoyable (sometimes the soups 'steal the show'). If there was a weak point it might be the wine list. I struggled to find a reasonably priced wine to go with the meal. Difficult to understand this in considering the reasonably priced, very good wines offered by a number of other places downtown. I might try some others and this would not keep me from going there again by any means, 3-4 star rating overall."

  • "My husband & I enjoyed a rare evening out at High Cotton. (We made reservations on Open Table) We were greeted immediately by the hostess when we arrived and since we were a little early, we had drinks at the bar. The bartender was very attentive to us as well as every other customer that was there. He did a great job as he was by himself & the "after work" crowd was coming in on a Friday evening. We then moved onto our table where we had a great view of the Reedy river. The waiter was very knowledgeable in regards to the menu & very attentive. He asked us if we were going to a show to assure that we arrived on time. We both enjoyed the Filet's which were cooked to perfection. Overall a GREAT dinner & we will definitely return!"

  • "One word says it all, great menu, our meals were delicious, a new flavor to southern cuisine. I loved the pork chop with apricots! I took the chefs advice on how to cook it and he didn't disappoint. I recommend the fried green tomatoes w/ pimento cheese as a starter. Fantastic service, they made sure we didn't want for anything throughout the evening. The room is very modern with a fantastic view of Reedy River Park and the city. Complimentary valet for guests is a nice touch as well. Couldn't say enough about the whole experience, we'll definitely be going back soon."

  • "First time trying High Cotton. Had great expectations for a great dining experience with my wife, but was disappointed. Not by the service (server was terrific) or the ambience of the restaurant, but the food. I ordered the NY strip (recommended by server). It was difficult to cut and very little flavor. I only finished half. I am not one to send food back. I just do not go back."

  • "This was my and my husband's first time dining at High Cotton and we were both very impressed. The food was delicious and so were the cocktails. I had the shrimp and grits and would definitely order it again. The service was prompt and even though it was a fairly busy night, we were able to enjoy our dinner in enough time without being rushed and made it to our show at the Peace Center with plenty of time. The location is also super convenient - just across the river from the Peace Center, so it is a great place for a delicious meal before a show. Hope to go back soon!"

  • "I have been here many times and have always enjoyed the experience. The menu and its selections is very good starting with appitizers and going through to dessert. Plates have a great presentation. The bar has a good inventory and the wine list is excellent."

  • "My wife and I have spent our last four wedding anniversaries here and will always come back. High Cotton staff have made us feel so welcome and go out of their way to make it special. They even printed our name and Happy Anniversary on the menu. We had a great view of the waterfalls and the food was as great as always. We had a free desert to celebrate and this is by far our favorite place in all of Greenville SC. Will be back soon"

  • "We celebrated my wife's birthday with our 2 adult sons and everything was perfect! The wine and cocktail selection was excellent with a broad range of choices & prices, good for any budget. Every bite of food was delicious from appetizer to dessert, from steak to seafood, from sweet to savory. All of this was expected due to High Cotton's reputation in the local community but what truly made an impression was the level of service and detail!"

  • "I'd dined several times at High Cotton, but never thought it measured up to the top restaurants in Greenville. But with a new menu, new staff, and a great waiter (John), High Cotton will be on the list whenever I want a special night out."

  • "Short review: The duck(best entree ever)is no longer available. Shrimp and grits were good, but not as good as duck. Apricot glaze on the pork chop was too thick and far too sweet to be paired with such a perfectly cooked piece of pork. I substituted brussel sprouts for the recommend pork side and thought it odd that they were served under the pork (and covered with apricot glaze). Apricot brussel sprouts, yuck! The "brownie" I had for dessert looked more like a sad little whoopie pie, but with less flavor. My wife's dark choc. terrine was amazing, but I was left wanting a real brownie after eating mine. The service was less than average. My water was frequently empty; waitress also argued about part of the bill with me. Will NOT be back."

  • "My wife and I had our Valentines dinner at High Cotton this year. First off, we were seated at a tiny table for 2 which happened to be located right outside of a waiters staging area in a narrow hallway leading to the service elevator. We couldn't enjoy the evening with the constant people coming in and out of this staging area. Also there was some sort of buzzer that kept going off inside of the room we were seated next to. Definitely over priced ! If you're looking to have a nice meal and actually be able to enjoy it, try Rick Erwin's !! Several other negative statements about my experience will be left unsaid, due to my dislike of typing!"

  • "The food, service, lighting, and the view was perfect. No kids were present, that night is was an adult only atmosphere and I loved it."

  • "I got a salad and the mussels appetizer. It's sad when the side salad is the only good part of the meal. My husband agreed as well. He had the sweet potato lasagna. The portion wouldn't have been enough to fill up my 19- month old son, much less a grown man. It wasn't very good either. Two others with us got shrimp and grits. For a restaurant that prides itself on that dish, it's a huge disappointment. Also, what's the point in making a reservation if you still have to wait almost 40 minutes to be seated after arriving. We should have known when this was the only place with seating availability between 5:30 and 9:15 the weekend of Valentines Day. Never again will I spend $150 at this restaurant. Such a waste of money."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at High Cotton. The food was excellent and provided a broad selection to suit different tastes. The waiter was attentive and humorous, helping to increase the relaxation and enjoyment. Our table overlooked the river & falls and provided an excellent background view. Based on our experience I would recomment this restauran to others seeking an enjoyable relaxing evening out."

  • "My birthday brunch is always at High cotton in Greenville. This year my birthday was on Sunday, so it was perfect. The service and ambiance were outstanding and my food was great, a crab cake on a fried green tomato with a poached egg on top, Crab Cake Benedict, I think they call it. With a Bloody Mary and good coffee, what could be better? We really consider the Sunday Brunch great and take out of town guests there quite often. Thank you Hugh Cotton."

  • "High Cotton in Greenville is the upstate's version of the original High Cotton in Charleston. The atmosphere is quite different but the emphasis is the same - southern food dressed up and gourmet ready. Starter menu is great and serving size is larger than many fine dining establishments."

  • "Coming from Asheville, a foodie town, I had high expectations. The food was fresh and well presented but lacked the imagination of similar caliber restaurants. The atmosphere was amazing, with great views of downtown Greenville and the Reedy river. The service was good but not exceptional. Overall a good experience but the price was high compared to other restaurants of similar quality."
