Diner Reviews
  • "It was a pleasant dinng experience but pricy for the quality of food and service."

  • "It wasn't our first time here and every time we come here we enjoy it. Great service and good food. Great location with nice view."

  • "The new chef at High Cotton is genuinely innovate. He is creative in the way that he blends the flavor combinations. My mountain trout was delicious - just a bit crisp - and served on the bed of rice and almonds and oh all the flavors mixed and mingled with the divine butter sauce …yum! Others in the party had seard tuna and duck - both terrific."

  • "A fabulous dining experience. Don't miss this downtown dining spot."

  • "With a warehouse atmosphere, this noisy restaurant is not romantic. The quality & taste of the food were the only good, not great, things about it."

  • "We went to High Cotton for brunch on our last day in Greenville. The restaurant was outstanding and I highly recommend it. The food is farm to table fresh and delicious. The service was great and we had a table by the window, so we had a wonderful view of the plaza. Prices were reasonable and we didn't feel rushed. Would definitely go back and try it for dinner sometime. We also did Happy Hour at the bar on a previous day. The bartender was so friendly and amazing. This restaurant epitomizes Southern Hospitality."

  • "Nice upscale restaurant with excellent food, great service and nice atmosphere. Would recommend some kind of light filtering for brunch time to help block the hot sun."

  • "Highs and lows: Highs: service;scenery; spotless; lovely decor;fresh ingredients; yummy pecan dessert and ice cream. Lows: grits, the "highlight", were...off. Bland yet salty and cheesy; water not refilled; salad dressing uninspired; flavors never had me go "yummmmm." ; expensive. I could return for all the highs, and just eat the sure things and drink from the inspired wine menu!"

  • "The food overall was very good and well prepared. The menu at the restaurant was actually different than the one I viewed online just before going. I asked about a particular appetizer and was told it had been taken off the menu a week earlier. The menu online should stay updated. The location is great and the view is very pretty."

  • "High Cotton was one of our favorite restaurants in Charleston, SC, so we were very excited to hear that Greenville has one as well. We visited with some friends and were not disappointed. The menu is different, as it should be in order to use local food, and the food was excellent. We had great service, the restaurant is very nice, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice dinner in downtown Greenville. The complimentary valet parking was also very convenient and helpful."

  • "Everything was great. The appetizers, wine(great suggestions from waiter) and entrees. The only negative was an obvious argument over whether a steak was rare or not by the manager and a patron. Manager was very unprofessional and we shouldn't have had to listen to this argument over dinner. But we still had a great time and would definitely go back when in town."

  • "We chose High Cotton as our early supper venue after attending a matinee production at the Peace Center (within 500 yards). The service, the wine, the food, the ambiance were wonderful as usual. On Sunday mornings, they have live jazz, so ask for a table in the bar area but away from the musicians."

  • "My husband and I ate at High Cotton for our anniversary. We have eaten there before, but only for brunch. Both times were wonderful experiences. Our food was delectable, our drinks perfect, and the waiter was very kind and courteous."

  • "If the first course of fresh fruits and vegetables was any fresher, it would have to be grown right outside the kitchen delivery. Tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, watermelon, corn, all making their parts known throughout the meal - gazpacho, bisque, gastriques. And then the proteins! pork, grouper, shrimp, steak - amazing. Cheers to the chefs represented that evening. Service was top notch, genuine, and friendly. The bar was fully capable of a wide variety of tastes utilizing local and house made ingredients and spirits."

  • "We have dined at High Cotton only once because we were in Greenville for a mere 48 hours. This is a place where we could come back again and again -- it was hard to decide which of many attractive menu options to select. We finally decided on the oxtail appetizer, fried oysters and shrimp and grits -- everything was beautifully plated and delicious. Our server was personable and knowledgeable. Overall, one of our better restaurant experiences."

  • "A delightful restaurant where nearly all of the staff know our names."

  • "We were visiting Greenville for the weekend and knew this was one place we had to try out; so glad we did! We sat at the bar and the bartender guided us through his top picks of the delicious looking menu options. Ended up ordering the fried green tomatoes app, shrimp and grits dinner and the New York Strip. The entree's were amazing, though next time I would be interested in a different appetizer. We will be coming back again for sure!"

  • "What an experience at High Cotton! I booked in honor of our one year wedding anniversary and my husbands birthday and we were treated with complimentary champagne and a dessert! The food was exquisite and was definitely worth the money and experience. The best filet with garlic butter and shrimp and grits! The oysters were amazing as well! Will definitely dine again at High Cotton!"

  • "We made reservations here for the first time, to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. We had noted our anniversary on our reservation form, and the restaurant surprised us with a congratulatory message printed right on the menu, and complimentary champaigne. Our server was extremely attentive, knowledgable and friendly, and the food (we had the duck and the shrimp and grits) were excellent. Highly recommended!"

  • "The important things were all there. Had drinks at the bar before dinner with a knowledgeable bartender/mixoligist and then dinner with service by waitstaff who was perfect in his work. Add to that 4 first class meals with great presentation and a wonderful atmosphere. All that equals a place to return to in the near future"

  • "The waitress specifically mentioned how adept the chef was at preparing steaks to proper temperature. Although the steak was med rare as promised, it appeared to be precooked in some fashion - room temperature when presented, with few grill marks. The outside was grayish instead of charred in any way. It was also fairly tough, which makes no sense if it were truly Angus as promised. The sides were very good, as was the fried green tomato appetizer. We are willing to pay $120 for a great meal, but with the entree so "blah", it made us feel cheated."

  • "As always the food was great! The problem we had was with the server. He, Jeremy H, was not attentive at all. We constantly rain out of water. It seemed like forever before anyone came to our table to get our drink order. I think a restaurant this nice should have professional servers! Probably will not be going back for a while!"

  • "We went for Sunday brunch. Food was just ok this time. Service was slow and the restaurant wasn't even packed. Best thing was the view. Mimosas were just ok...but small glass for the cost."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Great window table with river view! The Tilefish entrée was awful. The flavors, textures weren't good and there were bones. Friend had the trout and loved it. Other had the steak and was very disappointed. Felt like a tourist trap, great location with pricey, mediocre fare."

  • "It is mine and my wife's favorite spot to go for special occasions. The service is always good and food comes to you quicker than expected. They treat you like royalty at this place and it is a great dinning experience whenever we go there. "

  • "We had friends from out of town join us for dinner at High Cotton. We were seated overlooking the river and the view was spectacular. Service was wonderful and our server, Jeremy, gave us some fantastic recommendations. I had the trout and my husband had the venison. Both dinners were delicious and cooked to perfection. My fish was fresh and well seasoned. Our guests enjoyed the tile fish and the trout, and they raved over their selections. We all shared an apple crisp for dessert, and it was a sweet ending to an enjoyable evening."
