High Cotton - CharlestonFavorite RestaurantLast night we said SNOB was our favorite. Tonight at High Cotten we said now this is our favorite in Charleston.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern Charm at its FinestGreat for Sunday brunch. Great location in the heart of downtown Charleston. Southern charmer. Great ambiance, service and variety of delicious food choices. Dixieland band also plays in the bar. It was a wonderful way to start my say in Charleston. Would highly recommend.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!Everything aboout High Cotton was outstanding - the food was incredible, the service impeccable, the ambience was classy, yet casual enough to aviod any sense of snobbiness. We ate in several rerstaurants while visiting Chrleston, and this was by far our favorite.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFine choice for a special mealUpscale, but unpretentious is how I would describe High Cotton. The food and service are excellent, but you pay a bit more for that as well. While a gentleman would not be out of place wearing a jacket and tie, it is not required. I would say Smart Casual though at a minimum. I really like the emphasis on locally and regionally sourced ingredients and as a nice touch, they list some of their suppliers and their locations on the menu. There is often live music in the bar which is fairly large.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous!Great food! Great music! Great Service!
A must go to when in Charleston!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA little pricy but a wonderfulA little pricy but a wonderful dinning experience.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat mealWe are local Charleston, but had not been to High Cotton for a while. We went during the busy Spoleto festival. Service and seating was perfectly done. We had an outstanding meal. The menu is really good and there are interesting selections. This restaurant deserves the good reviews it gets.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday Jazz brunch was a fabulousSunday Jazz brunch was a fabulous kick-off to a 3-day birthday celebration in Charleston for us new 60-somethings who still feel 40! Service was superb, music was fun, and the food and atmosphere were splendid--we had hosted an after-wedding brunch on the Sunday following our daughter's Lowndes Grove wedding 2 years ago and loved it so much--staff was wonderfully attentive and the brunch buffet was fabulous--so decided to return and will make it a regular stop when visiting Charleston again! Thank you for a great experience!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMHigher than the restI went to College of Charleston &while I was there I tried out a lot of the great restaurants in Charleston (of which there are many) and this ranks right up there with the best! I had the black garlic coated rack of lamb (at the server's suggestion) and it was absolutely incredible, the flavor they were able to impart into the meat was astonishing! Not to mention that for the quality of the meal the prices are really quite reasonable (being from New York I can say without a doubt that a plate like the one I had here would have cost $50+ easily). Everything else we had was just as delicious and the wine list is certainly sufficient. lastly the service was excellent (shout out to Justin!). I would HIGHLY recommend HC to anyone!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh Cotton saved me!Needed a group reservation and staff was very accommodating. A perfect server was selected for our group, and dinner could not have gone better. The staff was timely and patient with our group. The food was delicious- the group ordered a variety of menu options and all were well pleased. The atmosphere was inviting and elegant, but not stuffy. We will definitely be back- this time, hopefully, for a table for two!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFine food, Fine serviceI wasn't aware they had live bands most nights, it made the evening more enjobayble.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a perfect evening. We had a perfect evening. Our meal was wonderful and service was excellent. High Cotton remains one of our top two choices for dinner in the area for special occasions in the Charleston area.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFine DiningWe have never been disappointed in service or food at High Cotton. We have dined there at least 8 times.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMJUSTIN WAS AWESOME!We had a great time at the bar. Ask for the specialty cocktail with chartreuse; it is amazing!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good time at High Cotton!Came for my friends birthday dinner and if was wonderful! Delia was our server and she was fantastic. The food was fantastic, and the wine list is extensive. I definitely recommend!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for visitorsHigh Cotton gives visitors a chance to experience the utmost in southern gourmet food. It was delightful5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEat Here For Local FareThis is our favorite restaurant in Charleston. They really strive to use locally-produced food--this includes meats, fish and produce. The service is excellent, with a very attentive wait staff.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous!Lived up to the rave reviews. Loved our server who had amazing recommendations. Food was terrific and wine was incredible!5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't wait to return!Great music in the bar and outstanding service and dinner. I had requested a window table when making reservations months ago and it was honored. Our server was awesome.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome ExperienceOur waiter took care of our every need. They weren't featuring their shrimp and grits so when I asked for it he went to the chefs and the back and they made me a special dish that wasn't on the menu, but featured shrimp, grits, and mussels. It was superb. Also, they knew it was our two year anniversary so they surprised us with champagne and a desert. Great local jazz band played while we ate. Awesome drinks and just an overall great reason to return to Charleston.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat brunchHad a fabulous lunch at this Charleston classic. Chicken and waffles were fantastic5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMNice Southern RestuarantWe went to Sunday brunch - was very nice. They had a three piece band playing which gave it a nice southern charm. Food was super but pricey.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGood eats!Delicious, food; lovely setting; good service. Need I say more? Very well...our table of 4 shared the "picnic" platter appetizers (pimento cheese on crostini, tiny fried green tomatoes, pickle slices ( southern and sweet). Friends had a roasted flounder entree, the scallops, and I, the low country boil. The cookie dessert was definitely shareable.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA Little Above AverageHigh Cotton was a nice restaurant with good food. The ambience was nice and refined. We had a seat near the window and it was romantic. The highlight was fig jam that came with the cheese sampler. The jam was made from figs from the chiefs backyard.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh Cotton luncheonMy partner and I had a very enjoyable lunch at this mainstay of the Charleston restaurant scene. While it has been in place for a while, the chef always seems to find new ways to 'dress up' simple fare and make it extraordinary. My 'southern' BLT consisted of a marinated chicken breast with thick-cut, smokey-flavored bacon, fried green tomatoes, and pimento cheese on a wonderful brioche bun. Lisa had the steak burger, which must have been good as there was none left by the time I thought to ask for a taste. The only drawback - the server must have been tired that afternoon, as we really should not have to request the condiments - finally another server noticed we were not eating and asked if we needed anything. Still, a wonderful meal.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExtensive wine list freindlyExtensive wine list freindly prompt service with good food.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMNice AtmospherePleasant environment and good food. Service was reasonably good overall; however, long wait for the check as the waiter got stuck talking to another customer. Our reservation was for 8:45 and by the time that we ordered, they were out of one of the specials that my husband wanted to order.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMawesomeMy wife and I eat there every time we are in Charleston. Food is always very good and cooked to perfection. Desserts are always better than you can imagine. Highly recommended.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoy everytime we come!My wife and I always enjoy the staff, the food, and the ambiance! We think High Cotton is one of Charleston's best restaurants for a special evening.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely atmosphere! The food was innovative and the service was excellent ! Beautiful presentation!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe arrived with a group ofWe arrived with a group of six and were seated exactly where I had requested that we be seated. Both food and wine were excellent and our Charleston visitor was enchanted.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food in a beautifulExcellent food in a beautiful setting. Had a perfectly prepared filet mignon while the others in my party had scallops, low boil seafood combination and salmon. Desserts and coffee were great, as well. Wine menu was extensive. Waitress very personable and knowledgeable. All dinners were adaptable for gluten free (one of our diners needed this).5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOnly one suggestion . . . . . . .Everything was great. Our server made sure the nine of us out for brunch before going to a 3 PM performance at the Footlight Theater were not rushed and very relaxed from our 12:30 seating. All of the entrees were served at the same time - VERY IMPORTANT!!!!
Our only suggestion - please use real Maple Syrup -not maple flavored syrup. There is a huge difference and it would best reflect the highest quality of food at your establishment. Foodies know the difference.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGood for a nicer meal or special ocHigh Cotton is one of the more upscale and fancier restaurants in Charleston. Some of the male diners wore jacket and tie, but it is not required, but not out of place either. I would recommend smart casual as a minimum though and jeans and t-shirts are not appropriate if even allowed in the dining room.
The food and service was very good. I had the special NC Speckled trout which was delicious and perfectly prepared, but a little on the small side. I appreciate the emphasis on using locally sourced ingredients where possible and they list the sources in the menu.
If you want a fancier meal or a place for a special occasion, High Cotton is a good choice.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMTop three in Charleston for meYet another great experience at High Cotton! My wife and I went for lunch (underrated joint for lunch!) and we had appetizer entree and dessert! We had the salmon wontons and fried portabellos and both were fantastic. Then my wife had the special tuna melt which was delicious but my sandwich, the reuben, was much much tastier. It is fantastic with house cured meat and some great grilled bread. We finished with my wife getting rhubarb crisp and me getting what I asked for and receiving a souflee for lunch. It isn't on their lunch menu but if you ask, they will usually make it because they are awesome. Highest recommendation, great service, great atmosphere, great food every single time. This restaurant is why Charleston is great.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh Cotton doesn't disappointWe always look forward to an outstanding dining experience at High Cotton whenever we visit Charleston. It's the very first dining reservation we book as soon as we know we are visiting. This time was fantastic. The food and the service was as outstanding as I remember it. Thanks for a fabulous meal.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh on High CottonFantastic dining experience for our college girlfriends reunion!Great food, exceptional service, wonderful time! We will be back!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat atmosphere! This was my second visit to High Cotton. It's has such a lovely atmosphere and the menu is interesting as well. I was in town with a friend who I was treating to dinner. We completely enjoyed everything we ordered. The server had been very attentive but, I had a gift card and wanted to use it on our dinner. The amount on the card did not cover the entire cost of dinner, so I wanted to split it with another card. The server could not find a way to make this work. He said the card was not going thru for the amount of the gift card. I've never had this issue anywhere before when trying to use a gift card, and the card worked just fine the next day when I used it to pay for our rental car instead. That is the reason for 4 stars in service.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AM6 women for a birthday celebrationWe loved High Cotton-great food with a lively atmosphere and very good service. I would highly recommend it.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMa class actWe enjoyed our experience at High Cotton. I did not particularly like what I ate, but it was prepared well. I guess I just cannot develop a taste for flounder. One of our party ordered a steak "medium rare" but it came "medium." The waiter very courteously took it and replaced it with one that was done as ordered. In the meantime the maître de brought some soup to allow the individual to have something to eat. That was a nice touch. The setting and environment is very pleasant and we definitely would go back. We had brunch there once and it was wonderful.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMy personal favorite in CharlestonYear after year High Cotton pleases. Great menu, excellent food and a great waitstaff. Make sure you try the brussel sprouts.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat DinnerHC offers and all around quality dining experience. The Painkiller is great, and don't miss the scallops. The most enjoyable of all of the food that we ordered was the fried brussle sprouts. I would go back solely for them! Be sure to try them. Staff is friendly and genuine. We will go back.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was outstanding as wasFood was outstanding as was the service.... Will definitely be back next time we visit charleston!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMVery PleasantA great restaurant for a special occasion. The food is great and the cocktails are outstanding. The tables are arranged so that you feel cozy though there are many others in the room. My dining experience at High Cotton was altogether very pleasant.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a lovely lunch. Benjamin,It was a lovely lunch. Benjamin, our server, was wonderul!!!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service, brunch menuGreat service, brunch menu was varied & appetizing. Good brunch!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day Brunch GlitchesHigh Cotton always delivers and we enjoy Sunday Brunch there at least once a month and on special occasions. However, a few glitches occurred this past Mother's Day when we dined there. First, our reservation was for 2:00pm and we arrived earlier than 2:00pm but were not seated until 2:40pm. When we finally placed our orders, the restaurant was out of steak and eggs, my children's favorite brunch item. Additionally, the live music which we always love, stopped at 2:00pm. We did not know that the music ended at 2pm and if we had we would not have made a reservation that late. Heads up to make an earlier reservation if you want live music and all menu items.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat DinnerI had the cheese board, the corn chowder, and a steak with vegetables. Everything was amazing. I would go back again.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat occasion for seniorsI phoned my request for a semi-circular table at the rear of the main dining room the day before our reservation because we seniors sometimes have a problem with the level of conversation elsewhere. We arrived 30 minutes early and were immediately escorted to one of those tables, so with the outstanding food and service our dinner was just wonderful. We have another reservation next week with another senior couple.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for a celebrationI've celebrated two great occasions at High Cotton - a birthday and a graduation from graduate school. Each time was exceptional. I expect many more celebrations there in my future...I do have an anniversary coming up!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
