  • "We had no idea what to expect- we had heard hibiscus was great, but that was understated. Loved the historic building with high ceilings open to the rafters, giving a loft-feel, urban and hip... Food was fab from start to finish. Adored the homemade crackers (made in the wood fired oven) with the creamy warm crab dip. Interesting choices, including goat, grabbed our attention. Pear, goat-bacon, and grilled treviso salad was yummy! Richter Riesling was perfectly smooth & really balanced the saltiness of the bacon bites. Sea bass was superb and husband's scallops and étouffée was so enjoyable he cleaned his plate! Very nice assortment of cheeses. hibiscus is a place we will definitely return to. Thanks, Chef Dodds!"

  • "Not sure why this is considered one of the best restaurants in Dallas. It could be that our experience started off poorly with our table not being ready at our reservation time and being told it would be 15 minutes. We asked for a recommendation on an appetizer and the waiter had no opinion and was just rude. We had to almost yell at him for him to even provide any guidance. Horrible experience, I am not really able to describe how frustrating it was to have a waiter with such a lack of enthusiasm for our presence. So I flagged down another server and asked to have a new waiter. The manager came over a little while later and replaced our server and gave us some recommendations for our entrees. The food was good but nothing that special."

  • "Disappointed to ask for a table not bear a bussing station and then end up right next to one in the rear of the restaurant. Just a bummer of a way to start a dinner. the restaurant knew of my request and just seemed to ignore the request on what should have been a special night to celebrate two birthdays."

  • "Celebrated my mother's birthday with my sisters and had a great evening. Our waiter was fantastic and the front staff was warm and hospitable. I would recommend eliminating the table at the entrance and exit to the kitchen. We kept getting bumped which was a bit annoying. There was a very rude patron at the bar, and the staff immediately took care of the issue. Still like the place after many years."

  • "This was probably the least-liked meal I have had at Hibiscus. I don't live in Dallas, but I am there every couple of months. I dined here two months ago. It was fantastic. This meal was not even in the same ballpark. I don't know why. The service was excellent, as usual, but the bison was so-so. The lamb rib appetizer was great. So, it was good overall, but not the best meal I have had there."

  • "This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in town. Not so much anymore . The food was just "OK" nothing notable. Had the roasted beets ( OK not great) and the swordfish ( what a disappointment) . Even the Mac and Cheese was ho-hum. I was so disappointed I turned down dessert. Why have another mediocre course. I truly hope they get the zip back in the kitchen, otherwise that may have been my last visit; too many great places in Dallas to have to settle for "just OK.""

  • "This was without a doubt, the best meal I've ever had. And...I've had some awesome dining experiences in my life. Portion size was very good. Not so little it left you wanting more, but also not so large you suffer afterwards. My wife and I shared two appetizers and two entrees. We had the roasted bone marrow and a pasta dish that had roasted goat meat...fabulous! I selected one of the specials that was off the menu. A Wagyu bavette steak topped with a.....get this...goose egg. They paired so well together. The taste of the beef and the creaminess of that egg. The other entree was the Sea Scallops on a bed of crawfish etouffee. Only complaint about the whole place...wine is priced really high. Cheapest bottle was $60."

  • "Great food. We brought a friend who had never eaten at Hibiscus before and she said the ribs were the best she had ever eaten. I had the scallops with the etouffe and leeks and it was outstanding. The etouffe did not overwhelm the delicate taste of the scallops. We shared a pots de creme and the chocolate meringue cookies were wonderful. They are addictive! Our waiter Jeff did a great job."

  • "Visiting Dallas on business and asked a friend who lives here for the best in town recommendation. He recommended Hibiscus and we were delighted with everything Chilled atmosphere as you walk by the fireplace. Excellent service and wonderful food. The duck egg over beef special was a hit with the guys at our table. Scallops for the ladies. Can't recommend the place highly enough."

  • "Celebrated my husband's thirty-something with the lamb and pot de creme. The birthday boy enjoyed his meal and our waiter was so nice to bring dessert out with a candle! Great food makes it great celebratory dinner spot!"

  • "The menu has a great variety of options for whatever you're craving with bison, chicken, fish, vegetarian, and more. Our waiter was extremely knowledgable about the menu, and although the food took a while to come out, it was worth the wait. Delicious! I highly recommend the beets as a side!"

  • "So far this has been our best dining experience in our travels to Dallas. We have been to Dallas twice in the last few months and by far our best choice has been Hibiscus. Everyone enjoyed the food and when the waiter tells you the dessert portions are large enough to share, believe them. Our party of four ordered two desserts, they were delicious, and we took half of them home. The menu offered a good selection and we will return to try more. The ambience was very nice and not too noisy as a lot of Dallas hot spots can be. Highly recommend this restaurant for a date night, business dinner, or a special family occasion!"

  • "We took relatives from Europe to Hibiscus as a celebratory dinner on their last night in Dallas. The staff were patient and friendly, the food was exactly to order, and portions were perfect. Well, not quite perfect, we had hoped to save room for the desserts which we had been told were first class, but the appetizers and entrees left us no room for anything more! We had special meal requests which caused the orders to take extra time, but our waiter constantly updated us on our status and continually made us feel we were his highest priority. We had one 6 yo child with us as well, and even he enjoyed the atmosphere. Definitely a place we will return to."

  • "Even though the head chef changes perhaps too frequently, Hibiscus is still one of Dallas best restaurants - with a wide variety on the menu, great appetizers and salads and always a good meal. Highly recommended. One of our favorite restaurants in Dallas especially when celebrating something special."

  • "I took a client to a Hibiscus to celebrate closing on her new house. The service was impeccable! Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the wine list and gave a detailed description of the menu. She also gave us just the right amount of attention. Always available when we needed her. But, not always interrupting us. And, Our food was amazing!!"

  • "My wife and I had friends in from Philly and wanted a special dining experience. We got it at Hibiscus. Waygu strip steak, awesome. French fries, perfect. Emeritus Pinot Noir, check. Ice box pie for dessert, Yahoo! High end but not too pretentious, this place really deserves it's high marks."

  • "We travel to Dallas several times a year on business. Hibiscus was always on our list but after a change in the menu, etc. we skipped it for a couple of years. We just visited again and it hasn't changed. The service (wait staff) is second to none. Best in the MetroPlex in my opinion but the food has gone down hill and not climbed back up. Servings are about 1/3 smaller than they used to be. Four people could eat the mac and cheese and now it's in small bowl as are all the sides. Maybe 1 1/2 serving now. Food isn't prepared like it was years ago. We'll skip it again for a couple of years and might come back. Too many good places to dine in the area for those of us that don't live there to take a chance. We used to really love this place."

  • "Dinner was excellent, we had salads to start, and the seared salmon and the chicken special. Both were great, and our server was super friendly and engaging. Would definetly recommend it to my friends and family. Can't wait to go back. A top restaurant in Dallas"

  • "Hibiscus is absolutely one of the best restaurants my wife and I have ever dined in and certainly the best find we have had in many years. The food was outstanding...from the rib appetizers to the main course entrees. Portions were good and the service was outstanding. We will be back and will recommend Hibiscus to anyone for sure! What an outstanding experience!"

  • "Hibiscus has always been top on my list of Dallas restaurants due to the great food selections. However, after our experience this past weekend, I'm not sure we will make it back. The server could not have been more impersonable. He made no effort as to making a smile or even pouring our wine!! We poured our wine ourselves- yes- at a place where you easily spend 100 per head, we poured our own wine! I have literally had better servers at generic chain restaurants before. The food was still good for the most part- but service is so important in overall quality of experience. Wine prices are also steep for the brands you get. Mark up is substantially higher then most restaurants I would put in this same category. Overall very disappointed."

  • "I had a group of colleagues, including our company CEO, coming to Dallas and brought them to Hibiscus. It was perfect. Everyone loved the look and feel, we were very comfortable, and the food was impressively good. The service was top notch as well. Overall, the team walked away with a great impression of Dallas, especially the food scene!"

  • "We had the crab dip, artichoke soup, scallops, and wagu strip. Everything was delicious. I am still dreaming about that strip, it was unbelievably good."

  • "We eat out in Dallas regularly -- Hibiscus has been a longtime favorite. Still good, and recommended, but this lone visit was disappointing. The highlight -- cocktails with Grant in the lobby-bar. Down from there, with a rainshower coming through the roof (in the back room) and the manager explaining that "it's an old building." I brushed water off my clothes and moved aside not needing the offer of another table as we were nearly finished. I had the chicken "special" which was billed as a very good "chicken special," but proved to be an unremarkable piece of baked chicken - at best. Not a good choice if you like "dinner out" to be -- "dinner out." We'll be back to Hibiscus -- but perhaps -- next time -- without the usual optimism."

  • "Service was poor..10 minutes to get menus and water. The food was fair at best.. The Beef Tartar was overshadowed by the ratio of chilli hash, garlic and shallots. Thus, the nice subtle flavor of the beef was lost. But, the Kale and Mushroom salad was one of the best salads I have eaten in a while. The main courses - bison and duck. While the bison was cooked perfect, it lacked imagination and flavor. The duck as a complete disaster as it was well done and none of the subtle moist meat was left. Our favorite dish was the the brussel sprouts..we could have made a meal of it alone but would have meant ordering 6 servings. Lastly, the Pot De Crème was a joke. It tasted like and had the consistency of boxed pudding!"

  • "The food at Hibiscus is some of the best in Dallas. This is second time in a row that I have gone and the service has been slow and food took forever. Our ribeye took over 50 minutes. The music (Johnny Cash greatest hits) was blaring in our ears all night. I love hibiscus and their food but this is getting to a point that I may need to find a new favorite restaurant in Dallas."

  • "Went here for our anniversary. The staff was very attentive and the restaurant had very good ambiance. The lamb was really good and the wife loved the wild mushroom appetizer. We will keep this restaurant in mind the future for any special events."

  • "Our first visit to Hibiscus was very enjoyable. We started with the flash fried goat cheese which went very well with the bottle of St. Suppery Cab. For our entree, we split the salmon tartar and a beef tenderloin. Both were very well prepared. We will definitely go back soon."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to me and I opted to take my daughter and son-in-law out for their birthdays. Along with my wife, we found that the food choices were interesting and a nice departure from the typical restaurant scene. I found the wine list to be extensive, but somewhat pricey. The ambience was nice and although not quiet it was not overly lound. Our waiter did not hesitate to answer any and all questions about the menu and other questions we had. We were not rushed and overall this was a very delightful dining expereince."
