A word from Hi-Life Restaurant & Lounge
Hi-Life Restaurant & Lounge is one of the Upper Eastside’s most popular and longstanding neighborhood restaurants (est. 1993). Hi-Life's 1930's decor is the backdrop for restaurant & lounge classics like flame-grilled steaks and hamburgers, broiled and seared fresh fish specials, bountiful "Big Bowls" of pasta and entree salads, and last but not least a Sushi/Raw bar. (Hi-Life was the first NYC restaurant to install a traditional sushi bar in a non-Japanese restaurant setting in 1993. Expertly prepared sushi & sashimi at Hi-Life is a natural extension of the classic Raw Bar one might expect in our 1930's environment.) Hi-Life also serves a "traditional Eastside brunch" that features fresh squeezed juices, complimentary blueberry muffins & cinnamon toast as well as a 2.95 brunch cocktail deal. In the warmer months Hi-Life opens all the French doors along Second Avenue to provide an inviting "cafe society" experience. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I did not like the blueberry pancakes that I ordered which were yellow in color and strange tasting. The others I. My party ordered omelettes which seemed good. I would go back but would order something else. Also the pancakes were served lukewarm."

  • "After seated on our table: Assigned to a waiter named "MATT"...He didn't come to our table right away for menus and wasn't attentive to customers needs or follow-ups. VERY POOR SERVICE. :-("

  • "Have been to Hi-Life many times because of the consistent service and food. Menu has a very wide selection of items so there is something for everyone. Have never had anything I didn't enjoy. Accommodating with dietary requests. Very kid friendly. On this particular visit, our waitress was disappointing. She was very friendly & attentive to the point of ordering. We didn't see her again after that - thankfully the other staff came to her rescue. One person in the party didn't get his food until everyone was nearly done - and the order was fries and mini muffins - she claimed he never ordered anything. hmmmm. Will go back because I know this was an individual person, not the restaurant."

  • "i ordered the 4 oz filet mignon and was surprised to get 2 pieces of very flat meat. i will say that it was quite tender and tasty, just a very peculiar shape for filet. other than that, the place was practically empty, so it was quiet. and the service was fine. i would definitely go back but i bet it's nuts on a sat nite."

  • "This is my neighborhood go to favorite. You can get anything - and unlike other places with a big menu, everything is good. I especially like the high quality of their sush which is very reasonably priced."

  • "I have eaten here several times and I have always enjoyed it but this was the first time that I tried the brunch. I LOVED it. Will definitely be back again soon."

  • "then this the place to go, particularly if you have children. Options range from burgers to curry. We went with another family and at our table, there was sushi, cobb salad, nachos, burgers, and grilled cheese. The food is decent and the staff was very friendly."

  • "I came to this restaurant for my 22nd birthday dinner and everyone loved the food and the drinks were amazing. It was about 13 of us and the accommodated us graciously. I was able to bring my own cake for the dinner and the waitress cut it for us (with a small fee per plate) and I was able to enjoy my food, my drinks, and my family. It was an awesome dinner."

  • "Waitress came back and asked for a larger tip. She was wondering why we only tipped her 10 percent. I felt forced to give extra, even though the service was mediocre at best. Have never had such an experience. We should not be forced to tip a certain amount, especially since the service was mediocre and the bill was $150."
