  • "Had a reservation; no one really in charge of seating. was seated and waited 10 or so minutes till a waiter came by. My husband knew the bartender who gave us menus, took our drink order and brought bread. Finally our waiter, Johan, appeared and was very helpful with the menu and selections as well as recommendations. Food was very good, I had the sea bass dinner but substituted the halibut as recommended by Johan. My husband had the duck which he recommended and my husband loved it. French onion soup was delicious. Totally loved Johan - and David the bartender."

  • "The onion soup had lots of onions, but was uninteresting. The shrimp cocktail seemed OK..I became deathly ill in a few hours and remained so overnight. After a miserable night and fainting the next morning, I was fine and have remained so. I can only attribute my problem to "something that I ate"."

I had the seafood (seabass in Mediterranean sauce) and it had to have been the best and most fresh fish I've ever had. The entree was wonderfully presented with both subtle and bold flavors complementing each other. I will definitely return!"

  • "So I had read reviews about this place as having good food but to be wary of the service. This was pretty much spot on. First of all, we entered the restaurant hungry and ready to eat. Unfortunately it took forever for the waiter to come. Once he came, he was nice and knowledgeable, but there was no bread or anything offered and we had to wait forever for our appetizers. Forever was like almost 45 to 50 minutes. Finally once our appetizer came out, then he asked us if we wanted bread. We of course said yes, but the bread was hard and cold. I'll give service an extra star because the waiter was nice, If you are ok with waiting forever to getting your food go for it...as the food was good. We will not be going there again-"

  • "My wife and I had dinner at Hexagone on Saturday, prior to attending a play at The Globe. Our waiter was excellent. He began by asking us if we had theatre tickets and what time the play started. During the evening, he made sure everything was served quickly. He was quite attentive, friendly and polite, but unobtrusive. We had steamed clams as an appetizer, and they were exquisite. Then salads, which were fresh and lightly dressed -- very tasty. I had the halibut special -- delicious, seemed to be a chipotle sauce, but very light. My wife had duck, and thought it was perfect. The waiter made very good wine suggestions, too. I'd recommend Hexagone to anyone who wants an outstanding meal - and it's close to The Globe."

  • "Hexagone was exactly what I was looking for. A casually elegant restaurant with an intimate setting. The food was delicious and proportioned to leave the diner feeling satisfied, not stuffed. The service was fantastic and I noticed that it wasn't just our server. All of them conversed with the people at their tables, like new friends, yet remained professional. Just a few blocks from the park, this is the perfect pre-show dinner spot. My only criticism is that they aren't open late enough to return for dessert after the show."

  • "Found the restaurant on line and took a chance. A 60th birthday party that turned out to be fantastic. Our table for 9 was set and ready, we were ushered in and had a lovely table that was both part of the main room, but with privacy. Our server paced our drinks, appetizers and dinners with space and grace. So very European. Even with requests for more bearnaise sauce, he accommodated us so graciously. We were all surprised and so enjoyed the entertainment. Almost felt like Paris, but with no Metro to take home. We will be back."

  • "The lamb was perfect. Cooked to order. It was all I could do not to go back Saturday for a repeat dinner. The food and service get better every time. If you have hesitated to go because of parking - rethink it. There is a parking garage on 4th just off of Laural that has dedicated spaces for Hexagon customers. This is a must try restaurant. Not only is the menu well rounded with options for everyone, but they are very accommodating for those with any dietary restrictions."

  • "My husband and I went to Hexagon to celebrate a late Valentine's Day dinner, we enjoyed the food and our waiter was very friendly. Our only complaint is that the restaurant was understaffed. Our waiter seemed to be the only one taking care of all the tables in our dining area. I know we aren't the only ones that noticed this problem because the couple sitting behind us were complaining about the same thing. Other than that one issue, we really enjoyed ourselves."

  • "Granted, my wife and I went on Valentines Day. Amateur hour for diners. We are, however, foodies, with high expectations for a place like this. The food did not disappoint whatsoever, so if you're a connoisseur of French cuisine (and we have dined in Paris), then you won't be disappointed. My guess is that they laid out extra tables on the floor thus giving the staff extra work to tend to, and thus our service was a bit slow. I'd be delighted to see what the staff/kitchen can do on a "regular" night. I'm sure we'd be quite pleased. Excellent french menu though, lots of classic options. Fine dining for sure, but not ridiculously expensive. I will certainly go back."

  • "I really enjoyed the atmosphere and service but not my entree. I ordered the filet mignon and it was horrible. They tried three different times to get it right and could not. The steak was chewy and over cooked. My French server tried to tell me it was my fault because I let it sit too long(5 min) even though it wasn't on a hot plate he said that the steak continued to cook. Maybe the French guy wasn't used to Americans but the customer is always right. The manager did all he Could t accommodate and eventually provided a different meal."

  • "While the food was good, the service was poor because there appeared to only be 2 servers for the entire restaurant, which was full. It took our server about 10 minutes to get to our table and greet us and take our drink order. He was polite but was obviously in a big hurry to take the order and tend to his other tables. After he dropped off our drinks, it took him about another 15 minutes to come back and get our dinner order. I truthfully felt bad for the servers but will not return to this restaurant due to the poor service."

  • "......because the wait staff are so indifferent, slow, almost rude. The food here is good although on our last visit, the fish was way overcooked. They removed it from our bill. My main complaint with Hexagone is that it is such a turnoff to know that you will have to deal with their staff. Very slow, took 15 minutes to deliver iced tea as the server went out on the street (I could see her) for a smoke brake? plug the meter? Who knows. Then when you inquire why it took so long, the attitude turns glacial. They're just not very friendly and give the impression that they would rather be anyplace else but serving you. Went there twice in one week, doubt that we will return. C'est bien dosage."

  • "Our latest visit to Hexagone will be our last because, once again, despite arriving 10 minutes early for our reservation, we waited as three groups WITHOUT reservations arrived after us, people who were clearly friends of the maître d', and watched as they were greeted with handshakes and kisses, then were seated before we were -- 40 minutes after the time of our reservation. This occurs every time we dine at Hexagone, never at Bleu Boheme or other favorites. We look respectable, have brought many friends to the restaurant, are good tippers -- our only flaw, apparently, is not knowing the maître d', who seems a lovely gentleman, but not someone who understands the meaning of fair play or of 'reservation.' So, sadly, we won't be back."

  • "Upon me telling the waiter we had a Groupon he replied "Congratulations." He then disappeared for extended periods of time. Finally got our mediocre food. The crab cakes were tasty but the texture was soggy and mushy. The liver & onions was musty in flavor - nothing I cared to repeat. The beef tenderloin was average but not worth the $30 list price. My main gripe however was with the extremely poor & slow service. The waiter appeared to not really be interested in servicing our table. The wait time from when we first requested the check to when we were actually able to leave was about 35 minutes. That's unacceptable and it was reflected by a 10% tip instead of 20%."

  • "The meal was excellent. I had the tenderloin cooked rear at perfection. The breast duck with confit leg and the lamb were also very apreciated. The waiter was a little pushy, just like he was last time,trying us to have more than the entrée and pushing for glasses of wine. When i ordered a bottle ,i specifically wanted a "cote du rhone", my région, and they have only one which is one of the cheapest on the wine list. When i asked what year is it,the answer was "last week", which i did not appréciate at all.Then,the bill was pushed to us without asking. The tip was moderate(15%) and we had no greetings while leaving! Too bad for the cook who does an excellent work. Go threre for the food but remain master (or mistress) of your order!!!"

  • "It's Restaurant Week, it's a really good restaurant... there were bound to be hiccups. A group of us stood at the door for almost 10 minutes waiting for the host to seat us. The restaurant was super full, so definitely noisier than usual. And I think our waiter didn't realize at first we were his table, so it took us a little while to get served. Once all of that got figured out, my husband and I had one of the most delicious meals with excellent service. Loved the wine pairing addition to the RW menu - 2 glasses for $10 was a good deal and perfect for the 3 course meal. Definitely becoming one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego."

  • "Thought the wine list was not as diverse as in the past, but I don't know French wines so end up ordering Californian. I really don't feel comfortable taking the server's suggestion on French wines. As in all restaurants these days, no server seems to know how to open a bottle of wine and pour it with panache. As always the food is excellent, had the lamb, it was perfect. Other guests had the sea bass, also excellent. We were there during restaurant week, so the restaurant did get very full."

  • "We make this reservation 1 mounth in advance, it was for a celebration of 2 birthday's, we did not knot at the time that it was going to be restaurant week, firsth we were there on time and they gives or table 45 min later, I stop at the resteurant 2 hrs before our reservation to ask them if they can put some decorations on the table for the b-day and they sAid oH!! yes sure don' t worry, well after moving the ballons back and forth from diferent tables they finally seat us and the rest of the thigs there were there still on the plastic packeges just on the table, the menu it was only the restaurant week, no a la carte, the food it was good but we where expecting more options, I really think they over book the tables and that is not good."
