Herringbone is always a great
choice for lunch. I have not been for dinner but you cant beat the food and atmosphere for a nice weekend lunch or get together."

Unusual setting but quite noisy,
particularly from several large groups. Good menu and excellent food. Service was okay but not the best."
Dined on 8/15/2014
Kelly was the best waitress you
could ask for- steering us correctly to the best dishes on the menu, other customer favorites and rightfully telling us what to avoid when asked for a specific yes/no recommendation. She well deserved the generous tip. Herringbone and its sister restaurants are now part of the Hakkasan empire from Las Vegas so hopefully any planned expansion doesn't compromise its individual appeal and attraction. A delicious dinner!"

Our food was so richly prepared
neither myself nor my husband could finish it. Short ribs dont need so much sauce... The flavor gets covered up. We both liked the smojnt of vegetables that come with entrees."

Outside of the recent addition of
Bijou, I didn't feel like La Jolla had been adding too many new, trendy restaurants for a night on the town. Herringbone has filled that void for a little while and is still a good spot to go. Food is good, not amazing, but you can go the multiple shared plates route or the standard app/salad and an entree route. I feel like the shared plates route can get too pricey for the amount of food needed to satisfy versus the standard route, so know that if you go exploring on the menu."

From beginning to end. Great
recommendations. Food and service was exquisite."
Dined on 8/7/2014
Recommended by a friend and what
an incredible dining experience, Brian the manager was very attentive and informative. The food was exceptional and we had an outstanding experience. Our birthday weeks started off with a very memorable dining experience!"
Dined on 8/7/2014
Loved my lunch at Herringbone ...
can't wait to go back!!!!!!"
Dined on 8/4/2014
Charming ambiance with real olive
trees growing inside, giving the feel of being outdoors. Excellent service and food. Try the sticky bun, it's a life changer! Spicy bloody mary's and bottomless mimosas, with real orange juice, for brunch, as well as live music. Will definitely be back!"
Dined on 8/3/2014
We had a fantastic evening at
Herringbone. Food, service and ambiance all fantastic. Highly recommended."
Dined on 8/2/2014
Our lunch was so delicious! The
restaurant is built around beautiful trees, which made the ambiance cozy and pleasant."
Dined on 8/1/2014
Built around very old trees, the
atmosphere in the restaurant is unlike anything else around. The food is very good. Salads are excellent, the fish tacos are more like a small plate, but very tasty. Very very active on the weekend sometimes with live music in the bar."
Dined on 7/28/2014
I love Herringbone. It's a
favorite place to take friends for lunch or dinner. I'll be back."
Dined on 7/23/2014
Love the decor - the food was
amazing - my yellow tail reminded me of a luau dish."
Dined on 7/21/2014
Atmosphere is fantastic! Service
and food wasn't what I was hoping for. The manager tried to make the experience better for us but for some reason it just kept getting worse. Sad to say I won't go back."
Dined on 7/19/2014
This place is incredible. Creative
food and creative drinks. The pork chop is a gem of a piece of meat and the halibut was perfectly prepared for both people. Excellent cocktails as well. We love Herringbone and will be back again and again!"
Dined on 7/19/2014
Great service, amazing food, and
Delicious drinks! Can't ask for much more!"

We won a gift certificate so we
decided to go for lunch. We tried several food items and all were great, things we don't usually eat and it was GOOD!! Also love the atmosphere"
Dined on 7/13/2014
My husband and I had the most
delicious dinner at Herringbone. The shrimp toast was an incredibly tasty experience as was our scallop dinner. We liked the little bowl of olives and almonds instead of the typical basket of bread that most restaurants serve. Service was impeccable and the servers incredibly polite. The atmosphere is relaxing giving the sense of being outdoors even though you are indoors because of the gorgeous olive trees inside the restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant"
Dined on 7/12/2014
Very deserving of its fine
reputation in food, ambience and service."
Dined on 7/10/2014
The whole fish was one of the best
meals I've had in a long time. Chef nailed it! Great time!"
Dined on 7/7/2014
They finally replaced the napkins
! It only took two years to recognize that patrons don't want to leave a restaurant covered in lint. The tables remain filthy, they are covered in grime. We bring out own disinfectant wipes to clean them, but as they are unfinished wood, the task has become too difficult. It has become a mediocre tourist trap..."
Dined on 7/5/2014
service was poor; food was so-so;
restaurant has very nice ambiance but three-fourths empty; needs to improve"
Dined on 6/30/2014
The waitress wasn't as friendly
when we were first seated, but warmed up a little as the night went on. It took a couple of requests before getting lemons on the table for the water. The decor is remarkable. The vegetables were a little over seasoned but unique. The dollar oyster special made to trip worthwhile."
Dined on 6/30/2014
I really enjoy brunch here (only
meal I've tried.) Its so wonderful to enjoy the less-crowded LJ ambience on a Sunday morning AND free street parking. The service at this restaurant is always exemplary."
Dined on 6/29/2014
Herringbone serve the best
ceviches in San Diego. Love the trees and the rustic ambience of the restaurant. Our server recommended wine which went really well with the food. He made our dining experience that much better with his exemplary service. One of the best place to have good food and chill with friends and family."

My first visit to Herringbone was
Mother's Day Brunch and everything was over-the-top great. The atmosphere, friendly staff, fantastic food, incredible wait staff. I was very excited about sharing my second visit with someone that had never been before. Almost everything was great. The food was exceptional and the drinks were lively. However, our waitress was a little off. There were three of us at the table, when two of us had ordered appetizers she turned and walked away, she didn't say anything, just walked away, not asking the third person what he wanted (this was my first time guest). We had to flag her down for his order. The evening continued with minimal attention to us from this waitress. Very disappointing."

This is a beautifully designed
space, matched by its delicious food."
Dined on 6/26/2014
Overall excellent experience from
the welcoming greeting, good wine selection, attentive and informative waitress, followed by top quality food both i presentation and in taste"
Dined on 6/25/2014
Fun, friendly service. Delicious
wines, fantabulous food. Gorgeous presentation. What more could you want? I'm going back for Sunday brunch."

Recently my husband and went to
dinner at Herringbone for our anniversary. I made a point of including that information when I made our reservation almost two weeks in advance. I did this not with the expectation of anything other than good service. Neither the hostess or our server even mentioned it. We sat at our table for 10 minutes before anyone came by to take our drink order...and the place was practically empty. Overall the experience was underwhelming, the food was pretty good and the service was lacking. For the price point of this restaurant we expected more. There are better restaurants offering a much better experience in San Diego."
Dined on 6/22/2014
Me and my husband eloped in San
Diego and came here after for dinner with a few people. I made reservations before hand and we were even late, but they sat us no problem. They were very attentive and the manager made an extra effort to help make it a special evening for us (I believe his name was Chris, so nice!). The meals were beautiful and decadent! Definitely recommend the scallops, short ribs, salmon, brussel sprouts, carrot cake, and the raspberry donuts! The decor is phenomenal, never seen anything like it."
Dined on 6/19/2014
Food was just ok. Poorly cooked
seafood, over sweet and bland. Very disappointing. Run out of utensils and wait staff seemed un interested. Won't go back."
Dined on 6/15/2014
We were in San Diego for
graduation weekend and had eaten here before. We needed a place to seat 9 people. The food is good but the menu is small but varied. I'm not quite sure what the food theme is here. My only complaint is that with no division between tables it is loud and difficult to carry on a dinner conversation."
Dined on 6/14/2014
Herringbone lives up to its hype.
The restaurant space is open and inviting with live olive trees that not only create an outdoor feel, but add some sense of privacy for this busy restaurant. The food is excellent, as expected. Try the pork ribs...surprisingly good. But the most pleasantly surprising part of the night: our server, James. Knowledgable, friendly, accommodating, intuitive, attentive...by far the best server that I have had the good fortune to experience in San Diego."
Dined on 6/8/2014
Unique atmosphere with the olive
trees inside the restaurant. The food did not disappoint. The kale prosciutto flatbread was great. We enjoyed the relatively quiet meal, with the wood floors and ceiling to absorb sound. We'll be back!"
Dined on 6/1/2014
I chose Herringbone to celebrate
my 59th, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Good food, good service. My wife's fish was overcooked, but our waiter whisked it away - no questions asked - and brought a new plate in mere minutes. We brought a bottle of champagne, and, presumably because we bought two bottles of pinot, they waived the corkage. A class operation from top to bottom. "

Love this restaurant! We have been
here several times for oyster hour and drinks, but this was our first dinner. It was our anniversary and we were treated royally, with complementary delicious dessert and great table. Our server, Kathryn, was fantastic and made our experience fun and special. Food was outstanding, too, and the ambience is just wonderful. The old olive trees in this restaurant make you feel like you're dining outside in a lovely orchard. Every time we've gone there I've enjoyed the Balearic music very much, and the energy of the crowd is pleasant without being too noisy. Many interesting drinks on the menu. It's pricey for dinner, but that's true for many restaurants in La Jolla...to be expected for such a nice place."

Service Cory Schnitzer was fab!
All service was amazing."
