  • "We ordered Halibut and it was a bit dry, tried the center of the fish and it was still dry. We made a hesitant comment about it being dry and right away the server offered a new plate. It was not expected, but we are very grateful because I had the best cooked salmon I have ever had. Herringbone is a great place and has a great chef! Thank you!"

  • "Kelly was the best waitress you could ask for- steering us correctly to the best dishes on the menu, other customer favorites and rightfully telling us what to avoid when asked for a specific yes/no recommendation. She well deserved the generous tip. Herringbone and its sister restaurants are now part of the Hakkasan empire from Las Vegas so hopefully any planned expansion doesn't compromise its individual appeal and attraction. A delicious dinner!"

  • "Outside of the recent addition of Bijou, I didn't feel like La Jolla had been adding too many new, trendy restaurants for a night on the town. Herringbone has filled that void for a little while and is still a good spot to go. Food is good, not amazing, but you can go the multiple shared plates route or the standard app/salad and an entree route. I feel like the shared plates route can get too pricey for the amount of food needed to satisfy versus the standard route, so know that if you go exploring on the menu."

  • "My husband and I had the most delicious dinner at Herringbone. The shrimp toast was an incredibly tasty experience as was our scallop dinner. We liked the little bowl of olives and almonds instead of the typical basket of bread that most restaurants serve. Service was impeccable and the servers incredibly polite. The atmosphere is relaxing giving the sense of being outdoors even though you are indoors because of the gorgeous olive trees inside the restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant"

  • "They finally replaced the napkins ! It only took two years to recognize that patrons don't want to leave a restaurant covered in lint. The tables remain filthy, they are covered in grime. We bring out own disinfectant wipes to clean them, but as they are unfinished wood, the task has become too difficult. It has become a mediocre tourist trap..."

  • "My first visit to Herringbone was Mother's Day Brunch and everything was over-the-top great. The atmosphere, friendly staff, fantastic food, incredible wait staff. I was very excited about sharing my second visit with someone that had never been before. Almost everything was great. The food was exceptional and the drinks were lively. However, our waitress was a little off. There were three of us at the table, when two of us had ordered appetizers she turned and walked away, she didn't say anything, just walked away, not asking the third person what he wanted (this was my first time guest). We had to flag her down for his order. The evening continued with minimal attention to us from this waitress. Very disappointing."

  • "Recently my husband and went to dinner at Herringbone for our anniversary. I made a point of including that information when I made our reservation almost two weeks in advance. I did this not with the expectation of anything other than good service. Neither the hostess or our server even mentioned it. We sat at our table for 10 minutes before anyone came by to take our drink order...and the place was practically empty. Overall the experience was underwhelming, the food was pretty good and the service was lacking. For the price point of this restaurant we expected more. There are better restaurants offering a much better experience in San Diego."

  • "Me and my husband eloped in San Diego and came here after for dinner with a few people. I made reservations before hand and we were even late, but they sat us no problem. They were very attentive and the manager made an extra effort to help make it a special evening for us (I believe his name was Chris, so nice!). The meals were beautiful and decadent! Definitely recommend the scallops, short ribs, salmon, brussel sprouts, carrot cake, and the raspberry donuts! The decor is phenomenal, never seen anything like it."

Knowledgable, friendly, accommodating, intuitive, attentive...by far the best server that I have had the good fortune to experience in San Diego."

My wife's fish was overcooked, but our waiter whisked it away - no questions asked - and brought a new plate in mere minutes. We brought a bottle of champagne, and, presumably because we bought two bottles of pinot, they waived the corkage. A class operation from top to bottom. "
