The whole fish was one of the best
meals I've had in a long time. Chef nailed it! Great time!"

service was poor; food was so-so;
restaurant has very nice ambiance but three-fourths empty; needs to improve"

They finally replaced the napkins
! It only took two years to recognize that patrons don't want to leave a restaurant covered in lint. The tables remain filthy, they are covered in grime. We bring out own disinfectant wipes to clean them, but as they are unfinished wood, the task has become too difficult. It has become a mediocre tourist trap..."

The waitress wasn't as friendly
when we were first seated, but warmed up a little as the night went on. It took a couple of requests before getting lemons on the table for the water. The decor is remarkable. The vegetables were a little over seasoned but unique. The dollar oyster special made to trip worthwhile."

I really enjoy brunch here (only
meal I've tried.) Its so wonderful to enjoy the less-crowded LJ ambience on a Sunday morning AND free street parking. The service at this restaurant is always exemplary."

Herringbone serve the best
ceviches in San Diego. Love the trees and the rustic ambience of the restaurant. Our server recommended wine which went really well with the food. He made our dining experience that much better with his exemplary service. One of the best place to have good food and chill with friends and family."

My first visit to Herringbone was
Mother's Day Brunch and everything was over-the-top great. The atmosphere, friendly staff, fantastic food, incredible wait staff. I was very excited about sharing my second visit with someone that had never been before. Almost everything was great. The food was exceptional and the drinks were lively. However, our waitress was a little off. There were three of us at the table, when two of us had ordered appetizers she turned and walked away, she didn't say anything, just walked away, not asking the third person what he wanted (this was my first time guest). We had to flag her down for his order. The evening continued with minimal attention to us from this waitress. Very disappointing."

This is a beautifully designed
space, matched by its delicious food."

Fun, friendly service. Delicious
wines, fantabulous food. Gorgeous presentation. What more could you want? I'm going back for Sunday brunch."

Overall excellent experience from
the welcoming greeting, good wine selection, attentive and informative waitress, followed by top quality food both i presentation and in taste"

Recently my husband and went to
dinner at Herringbone for our anniversary. I made a point of including that information when I made our reservation almost two weeks in advance. I did this not with the expectation of anything other than good service. Neither the hostess or our server even mentioned it. We sat at our table for 10 minutes before anyone came by to take our drink order...and the place was practically empty. Overall the experience was underwhelming, the food was pretty good and the service was lacking. For the price point of this restaurant we expected more. There are better restaurants offering a much better experience in San Diego."

Me and my husband eloped in San
Diego and came here after for dinner with a few people. I made reservations before hand and we were even late, but they sat us no problem. They were very attentive and the manager made an extra effort to help make it a special evening for us (I believe his name was Chris, so nice!). The meals were beautiful and decadent! Definitely recommend the scallops, short ribs, salmon, brussel sprouts, carrot cake, and the raspberry donuts! The decor is phenomenal, never seen anything like it."

We were in San Diego for
graduation weekend and had eaten here before. We needed a place to seat 9 people. The food is good but the menu is small but varied. I'm not quite sure what the food theme is here. My only complaint is that with no division between tables it is loud and difficult to carry on a dinner conversation."
Dined on 6/14/2014
Food was just ok. Poorly cooked
seafood, over sweet and bland. Very disappointing. Run out of utensils and wait staff seemed un interested. Won't go back."

Herringbone lives up to its hype.
The restaurant space is open and inviting with live olive trees that not only create an outdoor feel, but add some sense of privacy for this busy restaurant. The food is excellent, as expected. Try the pork ribs...surprisingly good. But the most pleasantly surprising part of the night: our server, James. Knowledgable, friendly, accommodating, intuitive, attentive...by far the best server that I have had the good fortune to experience in San Diego."

Unique atmosphere with the olive
trees inside the restaurant. The food did not disappoint. The kale prosciutto flatbread was great. We enjoyed the relatively quiet meal, with the wood floors and ceiling to absorb sound. We'll be back!"

I chose Herringbone to celebrate
my 59th, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Good food, good service. My wife's fish was overcooked, but our waiter whisked it away - no questions asked - and brought a new plate in mere minutes. We brought a bottle of champagne, and, presumably because we bought two bottles of pinot, they waived the corkage. A class operation from top to bottom. "

I found this restaurant on line
and went based on other reviews. The food was good and service excellent. Noise level however, was too much. Our reservation was at 6:30 P.M. on a Friday evening and the live music from the bar area filtered heavily into the restaurant making it difficult to talk. Otherwise, an enjoyable evening and would go again."

Love this restaurant! We have been
here several times for oyster hour and drinks, but this was our first dinner. It was our anniversary and we were treated royally, with complementary delicious dessert and great table. Our server, Kathryn, was fantastic and made our experience fun and special. Food was outstanding, too, and the ambience is just wonderful. The old olive trees in this restaurant make you feel like you're dining outside in a lovely orchard. Every time we've gone there I've enjoyed the Balearic music very much, and the energy of the crowd is pleasant without being too noisy. Many interesting drinks on the menu. It's pricey for dinner, but that's true for many restaurants in La Jolla...to be expected for such a nice place."

Fun place to go with friends but
also for special occasion. The service is great. Will definitely come back"

All service was amazing."

Had a wonderful dinner here.
Waitstaff was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The decor / design/flow was awesome- I could have looked around for hours!"

We went for the Sunday bruch, and
mainly the bottomless mimosas. First glass of mimosa was great. After that they bring you refills in a carafe which is mostly orange juice. Other than that we had a great experience. Food was very good, and the staff were very friendly. "

The Caesar salad tasted like a
fish market smells, despite eating around the anchovies, and the skate schnitzel had the texture of a mealy apple. However, the panna cotta was a very tasty dessert, and nearly made up for the disappointing plates that came before it. As usual, the music became increasingly loud to the point where I could no longer carry on a conversation with the other three at my table, and I am not an elderly diner hard of hearing - I am 24, and despite enjoying the selection of music, the volume made any hope of nice dinner conversation more of a shouting match. "

I expected a different experience.
Overall, my entire party was disappointed. Food-fair. Service-ok. Ambience-did not do it for me. "

We recently dined at herringbone's
took advantage of their one dollar oyster happy hour. Good oysters small but meaty My friend had the king crab parpadella but for some reason they couldn't get the noodles cooked correctly. Sent the dish back and the second dish came back what appeared to be better but there was still noodles that were just clingy and chewy and undercooked. Not a big enough pot not enough water I'm not sure. The whole striped bass was delicious The farro vegetarian dish was delicious Lovely little birthday sliver of chocolate caramel sea salt cake "

Awe inspiring! From the moment you
walk in, the ambiance gets you. Then the service and food to match. I appreciate management greets you at your table. Well Done! We will be back again and again."

Why is this place still in
business ? Service is sub standard. The PR machine has run out of gas. When I think of a celebrity chef, Daniel Buloud comes to mind…I suggest the "celebrity" chef at this company spend a few more years in the kitchen before issuing such a proclamation. "

Took my mom to Herringbone for
Mother's Day. We had the best time there. The service was top notch. The decor felt like we were in Napa's French Laundry. The presentation of food was outstanding. They really put thought into every detail. We ordered Mussels for appetizers, my mom's favorite. I am looking forward to going back to Herringbone. "

Yes, Herringbone has fulfilled
it's promises. Great food expérience to béguin our Californian tour. Simple, authentic."

My wife and I went here because of
the great reviews. We started our evening with drinks at the bar, which was fun and cool. The bar and atmosphere around the bar was on point. We then sat down at our table... We got stuck in a very small table for two, between two big tables. Kinda sucked but we didn't complain. We ordered a kimchi/prawn appetizer, which was soooo good. Then we got our entrees. I ordered the halibut and my wife ordered the scallops. Both were cooked superbly, but that's where it ended. The food was really bland. Nothing really to be all that enthusiastic about. It's like they decided not to season it and so, both of us were kinda bummed out on the final meal of the evening. So I like the place but the food was just, "Ehh"."
Dined on 5/10/2014
White napkins that dispose lint
all over your clothes. Unfinished hard wood tables that are filthy…bring your own clorox wipes. Uncomfortable seating. This is the result of a PR driven manufactured celebrity chef…not a true Chef, just a fabricated one..."

This was a special occasion. The
staff made sure that the flowers I ordered were on the table when we arrived and the service was just right, attentive but not interruptive. Food was prepared exceeding my expectations. Wow this was a great dining experience. "
Dined on 5/4/2014
Good service, fabulously
delicious. We shared everything and all had unique flavor. Scallops, yellowtail, mussels, roasted beet salad, pasta and crab, brussel sprouts, and dessert. I raised the mussel bowl to drink and savor the broth. All was soooo good."
Dined on 5/3/2014
The ceviche, the salads, the
pizza, the smoked octopus were stunning. The kind of dishes that we sat around and tried to figure out how we could do them at home. The fried calamari and artichokes were average. The noise level too high, to where you have to lean in to hear others talk. The interior space is unique and worth a visit just to see it. We'll be back. "
Dined on 5/2/2014
We went for a birthday celebration
at lunch. What a gorgeous setting to sit amongst the olive trees. It felt like a serene garden. Service was on the spot. We only had salads so can't really comment on the food except that they were fresh and looked as appealing as a salad can be. A big plus is that Herringbone's has its own parking lot. If you know La Jolla, this is a huge amenity. I highly recommend."
Dined on 3/28/2014
The grilled whole fish over
arugula was delicious. It was our first time here and we will definitely be back. In fact we will be coming back for brunch with family on Sunday."

Though I have been there many
times with my husband, in-laws, and colleagues, I decided to have a Mother and Son date with my 8 year old. It was a wonderful experience! I picked an earlier time 6:30 pm on a Monday, but from the moment we stepped in the door my son was beaming with Pride on how everyone talked and treated us both. They even made his Shirley Temple from scratch (with Luxardo cherries and juice.) My son said that if this place is still as great when he's older, he will bring his first important date here! Thanks everyone for a wonderful experience and the wonderful food. I rarely ever eat everything on my plate and get desert but it had to be done! My son even ate his leftovers at school for lunch the next day!"
Dined on 4/28/2014
Great place for a romantic date
night, special occasion, or a fancy night for seafood. A little pricey but the ambiance, service, and food are well worth it. "
Dined on 4/27/2014
Brought our 3rd group of friends
to enjoy the creative menu and ambience. Everything was delicious. Tried new items, kimchee fried rice was YUMMY! Regular favorites were excellent; ceviche, egg/prosciutto flatbread, hazelnut choc cake."
