Diner Reviews
  • "My party of two was very excited to visit Herbsaint for the first time. We really enjoyed it. It's pretty cramped and our table was only one away from the front door so be prepared to get cozy with your neighbors. The food was great. We had two specials -shrimp and fish - which were among the best we had in our five dinners while visiting New Orleans. I'm not usually a dessert person, but we tried it here. Leave room for dessert. Can't wait to return."

  • "As one of the lunch specialties, the grilled okra salad was delicious, the best choice I made. The Louisiana shrimp with calasparra rice was alright but a bit too salty. However, the fried catfish (with green rice) was absolutely perfect, lightly breaded and fried to perfection, moist and tasty, so the generous portion was thoroughly enjoyed. Our waitress was very polite and extremely attentive, making our dining experience totally pleasant."

  • "I've been to Herbsaint twice in the last few months, and I must say that this second time was by far the best experience that I've had here. I would almost go as far to say that it's one of the best dining out experiences I've had in the past year or so. It was phenomenal. My husband and I took my mom and her friend here for dinner one evening, and it was beyond what I expected. Drinks were never empty and the only issue with a meal was solved in about 25 seconds. I will definitely be coming back. Can't wait."

  • "The food was excellent but the service was seriously lacking. We waited 15 minutes before a waiter acknowledged us. He did not introduce himself or welcome us but abruptly asked us if we wanted a drink. He did not bother to let us know there were specials not included on the menu, we heard the waitress at the next table listing the specials and her recommendations. It took 3 requests to get the correct wine order. The waitstaff barely spoke to us or checked in to see if we needed anything. The service was disorganized and poorly coordinated. I have never been treated so poorly at a higher end restaurant before and it was extremely disappointing. I would not recommend Herbsaint."

  • "The description of the food does not give justice to how wonderful the dishes are here. Really good food and not your usual menu. Hip, but attracts all variety of people and very vibrant."

  • "Was in New Orleans for a conference and had one of the best meals of my life at HerbSaint. We are from New York and have access to the finest restaurants in the world but HerbSaint ranks as my favorite."

  • "Very loud. Need to add some soft surfaces somewhere in the dining room to absorb noise. Hard to hear wait staff and other people at the same table."

  • "Hadn't eaten in the first of Donald Link's wonderful restaurants for several years. It has certainly held up over time. Perfect flavors. Ate at Peche this trip too. Just fantastic. "

  • "We found Herbsaint on Open Table and we had an absolutely fabulous meal -- the appetizers, entrees and desserts were all excellent and the service was great. The next time we're in New Orleans, we will definitely come back to this fine restaurant."

  • "Beautiful restaurant, great service and immaculate food. While Peche now gets all the notoriety in the Donald Link food empire (and, with great food, too), do not overlook the place where it all began, Herbsaint. Lived in N.O. all of my life, and have been fortunate enough to eat at many of our city's finest. Herbsaint is easily in the top 5 of my experiences. The duck, pork belly, shrimp and lamb entrees were superb execution of creative, mouth watering, Cajun genius. The duck/andouille gumbo was wickedly sublime - the roux was pure velvet. Service was knowledgable about the food and wine pairings, and was attentive to all of our table's needs. Highly recommended. "

  • "This was my wife's and my first visit to the restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The service was excellent as was the quality of the food. The wine list was extensive and offered very high-quality selections for every taste. We were joined by friends of ours who had not dined at Herbsaint in a number of years but they were definitely reminded of how great the place is."

  • "Mid afternon bistro as late plane arrival in NO. Soup & gumbo of the day both excellent! Cold roast beef on focaccia w horseradish aioli was good & LA shrimp & calasparra rice, artichokes & maitake excellent. Good house French white wine"

  • "Had a wonderful dinner at Herbsaint. Special kudos to the excellent bartenders there who recommended special cocktails and wine. Noteworthy dishes included the gumbo, asiago appetizer, lamb special. We will definitely return again... And again."

  • "Herbsaint is a must-visit in New Orleans. If you're conversation-challenged, you can always ask for one of the outside tables. My husband and I split the gnocchi appetizer - incredibly delicate gnocchi with a lamb ragu. I could have made a whole meal from that. The flounder special was delicious, as was the shrimp and grits. The Meyer lemon dessert topped off a perfect meal. A nice touch is that the restaurant offers several reasonably priced half-bottles of wine. We'll definitely be back."

  • "As usual the food was excellent. Had the grilled chicken with crawfish Americane. The soup of the day was absolutely delicious. I usually get the gumbo but I am glad I changed because it was great. The beef shortrib appetizer was outstanding. We are lucky to have a restaurant like Herbsaint. "

  • "I had a wonderful evening at Herbsaint with my siblings and dear friends celebrating the end of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and my upcoming 50th birthday. As always the food was outstanding - the beef short rib appetizer always a favorite and a delicious butter lettuce salad with feta and toasted pistachios was a great starter. Our table's absolute favorite was the butter poached Gulf tuna small plate - out of this world. My friend's daughter enjoyed the duck entree and the baked asiago. Desserts were fantastic, especially the lemon doughnuts with Ponchatoula strawberry sauce and the chocolate pudding cake. Kudos to main server Kevi and her colleague Allie or Stephanie who provided outstanding attention and service."

  • "I am a big fan of cochon, so i was excited to try their sister restaurant. i was even more impressed by Herbsaint. Great choices for every type of eater, including salads (a rarity in New Orleans). Every dish came out perfectly, both from the regular menu and the specials. Service was helpful. plenty of wines by the glass and reasonable bottles and a cool choice of wine flights. Will highly recommend. "

  • "Arguably the best fine dining experience in the city. The food is Louisiana cuisine, faithful to, but elevated beyond its rustic origins. The oyster and bacon stew was sublime, with plump oysters barely poached in a smokey creamy broth. The roasted lamb neck was rich and succulent, with slabs of meat falling off the bone. Service was expert and friendly, and even on a very busy night there was no sense of rushing or confusion. Herbsaint manages to offer a truly local palate with an attention to detail, and just enough surprise to keep you coming back."

  • "WOW! We had the following dishes and each one was perfect: Louisiana Shrimp with Calasparra Rice, Artichokes and Maitake + Spiced Yellowfin Tuna with Fennel and Olives + Spicy Lamb Meatball Soup. I'd eat there weekly if we were locals. "

  • "this location is between the French Quarter and teh Garden District, so not really in the tourist areas. The food was exceptional; the place is a upscale storefront, but also check out the back room for a quieter dining experience."

  • "We live in the San Francisco Bay Area so we are not easily impressed when we travel. We are spoiled with such great restaurants at home. But Herbsaint lives up to its ratings. Everything we had was wonderful. "

  • "The whole dining experience was wonderful, including sitting outside in beautiful weather watching the streetcars ramble by. From the bread and butter- very good! to the asiago cheese appetizer to the rabbit appetizer - delicious flavor to the soft shell crab tempura- good but very rich and finally the roasted broccoli, everything was delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "The steak entree was plated badly (3/4 of the plate filled with colorless french fries). The acoustics of the place made it hard to hold a conversation. The service was pretty good, but we had 2 different servers and there wasn't really an explanation for it. We had much better & friendlier meals elsewhere."
