The staff was friendly and helpful and attentive, but not overbearing. A great choice anytime, but especially if (like me) you find yourself dining alone with a good book."

  • "This was my second time at Herbie's. I had enjoyed my first visit and decided to return. Unfortunately, this repeat experience was not as nice as a the first one. The soup du jour was overly salty, and the scallops were OK but pretty bland (the seared tuna I had the time before was much nicer). and my guest had to struggle with her filet mignon (arguably she had asked for well-done, but still). The worst part though was that in spite of the restaurant being nearly completely empty (we were in the Bistrot side and only one other table was occupied, which makes for a pretty long empty space), the service was excruciatingly slow. I'll think twice before going there a third time."

  • "We are group that dines before attending the Fox. Rarely do we all rave about our food. This was an exception. From appetizers to dessert all coures were prepared and presented beautifully. One requested a very well done steak and another medium. The steaks in addition to being flavorful were grilled perfectly. The salmon cake served on a lemon grass skewer was delightful. Save a little room for dessert. The chocolate bites ( four to plate) (one for each of us) was the perfect ending to our evening. And our waiter was very conscience of our time. He made sure we made the opening of the show."

  • "My wife and I had a great time at Herbie's on Friday night with our friends. It's a relaxed atmosphere in a pretty setting. It wasn't at as crowded as it usually is so we pretty much had our side all to ourselves. A couple of us had the steak frites which were prepared to the desired mid-rare. It was a nice cut of strip steak that came with Parmesan crusted fries. It was completed with a burgundy sauce. Our wives tried the Scallop entree and the lobster mac n cheese and were both happy. The kitchen split both plates for them to share without being asked. The wine list was very approachable with a variety of price points. Overall we had a great meal and a great time."

Time drags on and you begin to think the server forgot about you. He did forget that it was my wife's birthday which the hostess noted. However, one person does not make a restaurant and I would take any group there with confidence. Sure to impress your out of town friends and the price is reasonable. Very nice!"

It was our first time there, and I can honestly say that I have never enjoyed my meal and overall experience that much. Memorable."

  • "I had been to Monarch on several occasions and loved it. Had not tried Herbie's, now I wondered why I waited so long. Had the kale salad and shrimp and grits which were sublime. I had been to this location when it was Balaban's, Had both the dining room and bistro experience.. I chose the Bistro again because I love sitting by the sidewalk and soaking in the CWE atmosphere. Our waiter, Josh, attended to our every need, and recommended a wonderful pinot noir which I intend to buy. He even told me where I could purchase it. All in all, I will not wait so long to return!"

  • "This is a nice neighbourhood restaurant with comfortable ambiance that allows for conversation. The mixed green salad was good though the dressing needed something to make it even better. The lobster mac 'n cheese came to the table wafting of truffle oil. It is a decadent dish with the pasta cooked beautifully, a little short on actual pieces of lobster (I had two small bites). Both dishes were large servings; actually a bit too much. I'd rather a choice of smaller portions that would allow for a multi-course meal including dessert as not everyone wants to take things home nor do all dishes lend themselves to being leftovers. Maybe offer a 3 or 4 course menu? Service was good, though the server seemed distracted sometimes."

  • "Chef Chris Ladley never disappoints. I always start my meal at Herbie's with the smoked trout salad & those wonderful fresh corn pancakes. I suppose I don't eat there often enough to tire of it. This time I tried something new - the Kale Salad with Napa Cabbage, pumpkin seeds & miso vinaigrette and it was terrific. Although the Salmon is always delicious, I was in the mood for the pasta of the day. Josh gives great service in the Bistro and I was lucky to be in his station even though I forgot to request him this time."

  • "This was a real gem, a find for me while I was in St. Louis for business. I took 7 others there and we had a wonderful time. Every dish was reported as excellent - I had the Short Rib with horseradish mashed potatoes, outstanding. The wine list was diverse and the staff knowledgable, helpful and didn't push the most expensive bottles. And they have Blanton's bourbon behind the bar - that was a very good sign."
