Herbie's RestaurantDid the right thingWe came with friends we see once a year. Everyone enjoyed their food except for me. I had order the shrimp pasta. The shrimp was described to have been "spicy". It was basically boiled and toppes on top of the pasta. The pasta and seasonings were very good. It is just that the shrimp were tastless and obviously not at all prepared as billed. I briefly mentioned this to the person clearing my plate -it was obvious since all of the shrimp were left. The server immediately came over and took the entire dish off the bill. Unnecessary but appreciated.

The pan-seared barramundi I had was perfectly cooked. One of the guys with me had the pork chop and he was amazed at not only the size of the chop (huge) but the smoky richness.
One of the best things about this restaurant is that they match the energy level and tone of your dining experience to your group. The first time I went to Herbie's it was a birthday celebration. The waiter and the rest of the service staff engaged us in a very celebratory way. Creating a fun and lively dining experience. There is a formal dining side and a more lively bar side as well. Server was very knowledgeable and attentive. They had actually made a note in my reservation that we had to leave in time for the symphony and the server made time checks for us. Scallops were fantastic. When we mentioned it the waiter quickly arranged for us to move to a quieter table. Two managers came by to apologize, and they provided free dessert to compensate. The entire staff were very accommodating, friendly and just plain nice. I had the Shrimp and Grits and they were incredible to say the least, my husband tried them and he was impressed as well (he's not a grit person but...). He had the short ribs, very tasty and flavorful but a tad dry. For starters had oysters on the half shell, huge, juicy and delicious. Drinks a little pricy but typical price for nice restaurant and area. We have never been disappointed in our patronage of this restaurant. My most recent visit I was considering a dish and asked the waiter about its preparation. It contained red pepper flakes of which I am not fond. When murmuring that I needed to find another choice, the waiter immediately piped up and said the chef could easily modify the dish to my preference. It was perfect. The Caesar Salad was also very good and the warm fresh French Bread with the whipped butter is heaven. We were given a quiet little table in a corner until the table next to us was filled with 2 couples. The cosmos were great, loved the firecracker shrimps as an appetizer. We had the Herbie salads and they were awesome how they weren't drowning in dressing like some places do. I had the special: surf and turf and my husband had the steak frites with wild mushroom sauce. We both enjoyed ours, they were mouth watering. We had their New York Cheesecake with chocolate sauce and nuts that was totally yummy. I ended with a Baileys on ice.
Totally delicious, enjoyed our 3 hour meal.

Per my request, they gave me a quiet table in a corner window, and I treated myself to an excellent Bloody Mary. The kitchen gifted me with a fine appetizer (a wedge of a hot turkey Reuben plus a green salad with feta and hearts of palm) before serving my Eggs Benedict, which were perfectly prepared. Since they make THE best fries in St. Louis, I opted for those instead of the roasted potatoes (per the menu). The staff was helpful and friendly and accommodating, as usual.
