Steak was flavorful, though it was
warm-to-cool, rather than hot. Beef wellington was made to order, even though not offered that night. The clam chowder was thinner than most, but very flavorful. Overall, the ambience was lacking - very dark walls with mostly cheap furnishings and cheap fake plants, a central structural room divider that does not extend to the ceiling - tacky, and a huge fish tank with a beautiful jelly fish, but the many many cords coming off the side of the tank made the decoration more of an eyesore. Waitress was friendly, but not memorably great. We probably wouldn't go back, unless it were lunchtime and we were craving clam chowder. A bill of 70+tip was excessive for the warm-to-cool food and poor ambience."

The food, service and location are
top notch! I recommend bringing a flashlight though, it is so dark, and the font on the menu so small it is difficult read. We had to take turns going to the fish tank to try to read off of the light within it."

This was our first time at Herbal
Essence. The food was great, the service was good and the atmosphere was wonderful. We'll definitely be back."

There was a group party going on
and it was too noise to comfortably enjoy our meal. It was very disappointing because the food was very good and we couldn't enjoy it."

Overall a good restaurant. I was
very disappointed this evening however by my main meal. I ordered salmon and my wife ordered halibut. Both fish dishes were overcooked and not very enjoyable to eat. I hesitate to return to this restaurant in the future."

We had a great meal with nice
ambiance and the waitress made sure we made it to our event on time!"

I took my wife here to celebrate a
special occasion and we were not disappointed. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. She had the rack of lamb and I went with the buffalo steak. Both were served with sauteed vegetables and mashed potatoes. Everything was cooked to order and I have no complaints about the food. For dessert I had the creme brulé and she had the triple chocolate cake. The creme brulé was served with sliced strawberries which was a welcome addition, the cake was good but not noteworthy. The only thing I didn't like was that the restaurant was so dim that I had trouble reading my menu."

Great place for a date. Staff was
exceptional and the chef actually answered any questions you had about the food, the ingredients, etc. The place is fantastic."

Quiet Saturday evening after a
great Zag victory opener. We were out of town visitors, looking for a quiet, intimate setting. After visiting last year, it was time to stop again. Delicious, freshly prepared dinner and great wine! Thanks & Happy New Year"

This is, by far, my favorite
restaurant. I have never had a poor experience, whether it be the food or the wait staff. There is always something new and interesting on the menu. Everyone there is very friendly, including the owner, who will cook you a delicious meal and chat at your table. I have recommended this restaurant to some of my customers, and had them come back to thank me because they enjoyed it so much. You cannot go wrong with Herbal Essence."

I walked away feeling like we paid
too much. Then thinking about it, nothing seemed overpriced, so what was the problem? First, I don't think the waitress really had a good concept of the menu. The atmosphere itself wasn't up to "fancy" specifications, and for $100+ for a meal for two, a place better be fancy. I could have gone to Churchill's or Spencer's for a similar price (maybe $15-20 more). They just felt out of their league really...the food was very good though."

This is an attractive small
restaurant with a fine bar and excellent food. I had the halibut which was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. I'm from Hawaii and this fish was as fresh and tasty as what I'm accustomed to. Dessert was a not-too-sweet take on apple pie and it was light and spiced to perfection. It was terrific to find a restaurant that knows how to use spices appropriately - both sweet and savory! The name "Herbal Essence" is apropos. I can't wait to go back on my next Spokane visit."

The beef wellington was under
seasoned and they place a brown gravy on the pastry, this takes away from the flaky layer. the layer in-between the beef and pastry did not seem to have the needed fat layer. The Halibut was also under seasoned. Both dishes had excellent sides. We also had the clam chowder and it tasted good but it was a little nontraditional and I liked it. The crab cakes as a side tasted excellent but they were an odd number. The drinks and wines were good and you get your moneys worth. The art on the wall is for sale and it was beautiful. Our waitress forgot to offer the specials and seemed to a little off that night, so we give her the benefit of the doubt. The serving sizes were perfect."

The food was outstanding. My
husband thought the clam chowder was very good. The service was top notch."

Traveling through Spokane,
searched OpenTable for a restaurant with local flavor and Herbal Essence sounded like the right fit. The food and setting were great, but the service was from it. Our server didn't come to our table to take our order until 15 minutes after we were seated and we waited an add'l 15 minutes for our appetizer salads. This lack of attention continued throughout the serving of our entrees and taking care of our bill. All tables around us were treated the same way and could see they were frustrated with the lack of attentino too. Having great food, but poor service will not build a repeat customer base."

Nice atmosphere for couples.
Delicious food served on time. Kobe burger was juicy and tasty. We enjoyed the crab and artichoke dip appetizer- good flavor and hot."

great service. I would recommend this place."

I had the tofu in tomato basil and
it was excellent, the service was very good. Great for dinner while staying in downtown Spokane."

Great food at great value. Was
even able to get a great bottle of wine at a fair price - going back!"

Terrific food & drinks. Started
with the most amazing crab cakes coupled with martinis & it only got better from there. The value for the caliber of food is incredible, and as a foodie I recommend this as foodie level fare."

Commendable not only for
creatively and well-prepared food, but also presentation."

Small restaurant with attentive
service. Prices medium spendy. The food was wonderful and a visual treat to the eyes."
Dined on 4/10/2013
Excellent Cesear Salad! I
appreciate that they have vegetarian options available."
